  1. Had a look on the TP web site and can't find any reference to these slates at all?
  2. Usually the heat recovery pipework is connected to say a shower outlet, the cold feed to the shower passes through the heat recovery system. So using the shower operates the heat recovery. In that way you don't need and sensors or valves, other than the user operated shower valves.
  3. I'm loving all these hut, thanks for all the kind words about mine.
  4. Here's my entry to the Buildhub shed of the year, we'll be living in the shed for a couple of years during our main build.
  5. I've often wondered about a poly tunnel, it would be useful for storing plants and growing cuttings for that time when I need to sort the garden out after the build. My OH also wants to grow veg at some point.
  6. Why not carve your name plate on stone?
  7. Shouldn't the letters be mirror image? edit .. just realised one set are!
  8. I'd go for option B, it's best to talk through the problem first.
  9. I know nothing about lightning protection, but I did find these two document which might help you answer the question. The first document makes reference to a European Standard lightning risk assessment (the second link below). https://www.dehn.co.uk/en-gb/lightning-protection-guide http://electrical-engineering-portal.com/download-center/electrical-software/lightning-protection-risk-assessment-calculator
  10. Maybe you could add them to this thread. Have you any links to reference material?
  11. @Redoctober, thanks for the spreadsheet, food for thought. Are you going to prepare one for each stage of the build? Looks like I need to start burning the midnight oil and prepare something similar for my foundations.
  12. I'm starting to consider where all the sockets, light switches and lfittings will go up in my soon to be started new build. Having looked on line I see a wide disparity in prices, this left me wondering if all electrical fittings are equal. Are some brands best given a miss and which ones would you add to your Best Buy list.
  13. We're on a rural supply, it goes off about once or twice per year, usually for no more than a few hours. I'm not sure an emergency generator is the answer ! Our only emergency supplies are candles and wine.
  14. The battery disk grinder with a diamond disk and you can get past anything!
  15. That's sounds wonderful and would Be very useful, not only for me, but others that come along in future.
  16. I'm about to start my new build and I need to appoint a contractor to do the groundworks and foundation, then a contractor to erected the house. So what sort of contract do I need and what sort of stuff should be in it?
  17. The problem, you make the Windows and doors super secure, so the scum bags remove roof slates on the single storey extension and bash through the ceiling, as happened to a work colleague a few years ago.
  18. City Electrical Factors have the flame retardant meter boards on stock. They also have the spacers, they look like they're plastic not pot!
  19. If it were me, I start by meeting up with the architect, you can't do anything without plans and it's sounds like the majority of the original plans meet your needs and only need tweaking with your additional requirements. The architect should be able to advise what additional proffesional input, Structural Engineers etc, will be required. Once you have the revised plans you could send them to one of the on line quantity surveyors, they will provide a detailed breakdown of what is required to complete the build. The one I used, based just outside Manchester, charged £120. The end cost will depend on how much you're willing to do yourself.
  20. You can get information local to you by searching the British Geological Survey borehole database http://mapapps.bgs.ac.uk/geologyofbritain/home.html?
  21. I only did one English subject and did woodwork in addition to the above.
  22. Now, don't forget, don't drill the floor to screw the bog down, just glue it to the tiles!
  23. But only if the door and window locks meet the required British standards as stated in your insurance T&Cs!
  24. Sounds to me like someone at the council has a box to tick. As others have said, write them a letter stating there are no species in need if protection. Then hopefully they can tick their box.
  25. It must be the time of the year! We've had three robberies in the village in the past two weeks, a caravan, a quad and tools taken from a garage. The Police think it's the same person each time. The only good CCTV shows a person in full CSI style disposable overall, including hood, gloves and face mask! The car used to tow away the caravan was itself stolen and was found dumped a few days ago. Mind you, it's prompted me to look at getting CCTV, at least it's a bit of a deterant and provides some sort of record of goings on! Now all I need to do is go back over previous posts to try and fathom out which system to get!
