  1. As British Homes get smaller we'll be seeing more of this. edit, just a thought, where do you keep the douvet and pillows.
  2. I'd second what Nick said, electric towel rail, I've just fitted one and it's great. if you question the need for rads, why not just fit the pipework (maybe hidden in the wall) and not the rads. See what the temperatures like and only buy the rads if needed.
  3. I think the pooling water is a red herring, the water in the photo is leaking from the hinge. The last shower screen I fitted had a U shaped cut out in the hinge, this U shaped cut out as there to channel any water that got into the hinge back into the bath.. I've seen these cut out fitted the wrong way round in the past, thus allowing water to leak out of the bath.
  4. What do you mean by "foam bonding", I assume gluing pieces together to make the L sections? What is the bonding agent?
  5. I assume you can only get the L shaped components from a limited number of suppliers?
  6. I agree with Jeremy, UFH in the slab is far superior, to the extent that I'm doing it in my, soon to be installed, slab.
  7. I've just received my insulated foundation design, can anyone suggest who is currently the cheapest supplier of Insulation?
  8. So I have my bar bending schedule. Can anyone explain how I go about getting prices? Do I just need to send them the schedule, or do I need to add further information, if so, what? Can anyone recommend who to send the my schedule to for prices?
  9. Don't use a hopepipe, use blue plastic water pipe! No bans on blue pipe!!
  10. Regarding the air tightness, what are those diagonals for?
  11. Try not to be too noisy using your pecker. out of interest is it expensive? I'll be needing a big pecker myself soon.
  12. If only I was building in cob - http://greenbuilding.co.uk/make-a-date-in-your-diary-for-clayfest-2017/
  13. My recent trial pits exposed limestone, oh I am looking forward to starting my foundations !
  14. My Architect declined to take on the PD role, not covered by their Insurance! So as a private individual I did nothing, just let the architect get on with the design. At various point, my wife and I made comments about the design and these were a incorporated by the achitect. Job done!
  15. Were you dealing with an actual planner or a work experience person ! It makes you wonder !
  16. In not the main contractor I'm a domestic customer. When I go on Trust a Trader I don't get a huge pop up warning that I'm a main contractor.
  17. Just pile/stack the deliveries around the offending car.
  18. So do the ends of the beams, for the beam and block floor, siit on top of the steel beam?
  19. Im with you on this one. Access to our site is difficult, to off load something like a portable office would involve a road closure and a very large crane. I'll be building something temporary using parts from the soon to be delolished house.
  20. Or look at online auction site, Biddspotter and the like. https://www.i-bidder.com/en-gb/search-filter?searchterm=Office&categoryCode=PAM
  21. Where you flush the loo or turn on a bathroom tap in our soon to be demolished house to shower slows to a dribble!
  22. Why the hell did we ever start the self build malarkey ? We're asking ourselves that very question today!
  23. The self builder acts as their own project manager, employing individual trades at different times. In this instance the self builder steps out of the DIY arena, because they are taking control of construction work. Where a self builder controls the way in which construction work is carried out, by a person at work, they must comply with all the matters outlined in Part 4 of CDM 2015 This requirement is set out in Regulation 16 of CDM 2015, (which effectively replaces Reg 26 in CDM 2007). This is not a new requirement. In this scenario the self builder will in effect become a contractor. In this case HSE will expect self builders to demonstrate sufficient health and safety capability to meet the requirements of Part 4 of CDM 2015. Individual contractors will be expected to be able to advise the self builder on any specialist matters within their own work activities. HSE’s expectation of a self builder in this position will be one of coordination and management, not of direct supervision of contractors on site. The self builder is entitled to expect contractors to plan, manage and monitor their own work in compliance with CDM 2015. https://www.citb.co.uk/documents/cdm regs/cdm 2015 - qa 3 self build projects.pdf
  24. Only one bathroom! If the teenager is female you'll never get in to use the shower!
