  1. I'm after some weatherboard suitable for a 8x6 foot shed, anyone got any good contacts for competitively priced timber?
  2. Just emailed this guy to see if he's still offering a good deal, got this from him... Hello, Email us the drawings to print-them@mail.com and tell us what size and how many copies. £2 for A1 drawing and £4 for an A0. All prices include postage.
  3. I would only use obscure glass if demanded as part of planning condition. As others have said, use blinds if necessary.
  4. Maybe you need brew shed close to the kitchen, in that way people can come in with dirty boot and clothes, sit on plastic chairs at a wooden table and walk on wooden floors, all easily cleaned with a stiff brush and a weekly mop. Keep home and work separate is best.
  5. This looks cheaper http://www.edecks.co.uk/products/14783/135/58/0/Castle-Top-Ebony-Solid-Composite-Decking-(146mm-x-22mm---3600mm)
  6. Out of interest, who is this new company they're using?
  7. So what's the difference between building notice route and full plans?
  8. I could fit them on the slope, I'll just have to pull the cable back a bit!
  9. I'm starting to pull together the information I need for submission to Building Control company, Then I realised I don't actually know the full extent of the information required, could someone enlighten me?
  10. The cabin is basically an open plan living space 3 x 5m, a small bedroom and a small bathroom, oh and a cupboard! The only door is the front door opening into the main room. I'm planned on installing them on the vertical surface of a perlin about 2/3rds the way up the sloping roof. A'm I ok fittng them next to each other?
  11. I need to fit a combined heat and COalarm in the open plan living space of our small cabin, its got to be mains powered to meet Building regs. The living space contains the kitchen and a Wood burning stove, it has a cathedral ceiling. Having looked on on line at my local supplier I'm a bit confused. How come such an alarm can range from £16 to well over £100. What would you recommend when looking for such an alarm. edited meant CO alarm
  12. I'll be using this excellent video as part of my extensive pre-work site induction training day, thanks for bringing it to my attention, it's probably saved me thousands!
  13. Not sure if you've read this guys blog, he and his family lives totally off grid, might be worth you spending a few hours ( days!) having a rad about his mix of off grid power generation kit and his storage solutions, he goes into a lot of detail. https://lifeattheendoftheroad.wordpress.com/
  14. You can also buy in in bulk, I once bought 1500m for an UFH project, mind you, you would need a decoiler
  15. I'm looking to use a composite recycled plastic decking board, as every decking I've ever had has been treacherous when wet and slimy in winter. The last thing you want is to step out of the door, slip and fall out of the back door, this happen to my mother last year and she broke bones in her foot!
  16. An early interesting topic, I'm also in the market for a small area of decking, my biggest problem is that we're close to trees and timber decking is treacherous when wet, so I'm looking for non-slip options.
  17. I've built a small one bedroom cabin at the bottom of the garden for us to live in during the main build. As it's small I'm looking at instantaneous water heaters, i.e. Without water storage. I want to provide hot water to a kitchen sink and to a bathroom sink. I'm planning to put the unit in the cupboard under the sink. My thinking was that the sink will be used more than the bathroom sink, so putting it in the cupboard keeps the pipe run short, the bathroom is two metres away. It will be fed directly off the cold mains feed.
  18. I wonder how many others they've built over the years failed to meet the standards! Maybe the volume builders should be made to do recalls, a bit like the car industry. Might make them take more care!
  19. I did the same as you, but only insulated the hot water. I often wonder if pipe Insulation is necessary in a very well insulated house?
  20. The last ones I did I used the coloured sand and cement to coat the face of the mould, maybe 6mm thick, then I filled the rest of the mould with concrete. How did you make yours?
  21. How do they cope using incoming cold mains water, i.e. No pre-heat?
  22. I've been looking at using an instantaneous water heater to supply hot water to a kitchen and a bathroom sink. Having read a number of posts and asked various questions, the Seibel Eltron has been mentioned a number of times, however when I search to buy one I'm presented with a range of others makes, some of which a considerably cheaper that the German model. So my question is, are all instantaneous water heaters the equal?
  23. The bit where all the pipes connect to is the manifold.
  24. Put the hose pipe down it and leave it running, if the water runs away you might have a sewer connection! Maybe talk to the neighbour and ask if there's a manhole in their garden, of so take a look down it and see if you have water running, turn the hosepipe off and see if it stops. Sewers tend to run in straight lines, if I were a betting man I'd bet it the interceptor connects to the sewer to the left on the plan above. If it's a working sewer connection you're quids in.
