Bramble and how to get rid is it
Triassic replied to Triassic's topic in Landscaping, Decking & Patios
I’ve srarched for SKB but am none the wiser, what is SKB? -
Our garden is slowly being overrun by brambles. A neighbour suggested weed killer, so we sprayed a test area last year and although it died back it didn’t eradicate it, so it’s growing back again this year. Any suggestions as to how to get rid of it!

That beam is huge, what you putting on top of it?

Tell me about it, I’ve dug a basement and the muck pile is huge, luckily I have a large garden to loose it in. the pile is about ten feet tall and fifteen feet wide.

contamination survey Phase II - Can anyone write a Watching Brief?
Triassic replied to laurenco's topic in Planning Permission
Go back and get the Phase I report sorted out, if they found nothing then nothing else needs to be done, end of! The report should say that and only that. Putting that it would be beneficial to carry out more work is only benifficial to them, more work, more income. -

I’d bet that the log boiler won’t get used much after a few months of wood cutting and ash cleaning. -
contamination survey Phase II - Can anyone write a Watching Brief?
Triassic replied to laurenco's topic in Planning Permission
Did the Phase I report conclude that a Phase II ivestigation was required? If not, job done, no need for Phase II, other than tick a council officials box! PS page 8 gives details of what is required for a watching breif https://www.hackney.gov.uk/media/3231/CLS2-guidance-document/pdf/CLS2_Guidance_Notes -
The reason could be as simple as the junior EO has a box to tick and has not engaged brain or read the previous report. I’ve see this all too often in a previous life.

I was wondering the same, maybe @Nickfromwales has the answer? -
Yes 8 yard loads of C35.

Just a thought, the concreting guy has asked the volume of the foundations, as it’s insulated home made MBC type raft, it’s should be easy to calculate the volume, but how much extra should I order? I assume too much is better than not enough?
-
The other thing is to put everything in writing, a guy saying yes when asked probably isn’t good enough.

A man after my own heart.

I’ve finally tracked down the concreting guy. During the discussions I mentioned the need for the concrete raft to have a power floated finish, his response was I’d probably watched too many episodes of Grand Designs! All I really need is a flat, smooth concrete slab suitable for final floor finishes. Do I really need it to be power floated? If not, it’ll save me money!
-
Success at last! Called him just now and we have agreed a date in two weeks time! Just need to sort out the concrete, £103/m3 plus £90 delivery sounds expensive!

No doubt with the stronger Pound prices will be coming down. I was also wondering who are buying all these new homes when only y sterday R4 were saying the Millenial generation are generation rent and are unlikely to ever be able to buy.

Just trying to understand how these things work. You talk of “our crew”, who made up your crew?

Controlling underfloor heating in passive house
Triassic replied to dogman's topic in Underfloor Heating
@le-cerveau Thanks for your helpful post, as of last night I thought I’d got this whole heating / hot water thing cracked, now I’m not sure! Thinking cap back on !! -
I’ve been ringing first thing in a morning, thinking I’d catch them before they start, I’ll try late afternoon and see if this makes a difference!

My foundations are ready for concreting, however due to a very restricted access I need a concrete pump to get the concrete from the site access gate up and over the garden to the site. I’ve now contacted two concrete pump companies and the concrete supplier and not one has answered their phone or replied to my messages. Am I doing something wrong?

Makes total sense.
