  1. Are you partially infilling both blocks and pouring concrete above that. I’d take care wackering the infill down. Maybe a photo would help!
  2. I’m trying to list my various socket, outlet and lighting requirements for my new build. The one area I’m unsure if is my services room. I’ve got an ASHP, Sunamp unit(s), MVHR system, UFH manifold. What circuits do I need and what size, also socket outlets. Plus is there anything else I might want to include in the wiring scheme?
  3. Is it a block on edge or onthe flat? My initial reaction would be to pour, as the pressure at the edges isn’t that great. If if you were concerned, You could prop the blocks temporarily, either by backfilling against them with site won material, or by using timber.
  4. Just a normal day in Cumbria
  5. A judge has criticised a "breathtakingly arrogant" Christian woman for her "strange interpretation of the Bible" after she and her husband broke planning rules and claimed the only authority they recognised was God's. Laine Shepherd, 44, and Stephen Shepherd, 46, continued to use their farm as a campsite after being ordered to stop. https://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/home-news/christian-couple-planning-basset-farm-god-authority-devon-fine-laine-stephen-shepherd-a8559511.html

    Smashing!

Great blog, it reminds me that I need to get the slates and solar panels ordered for my roof. Also a great idea to get them lifted up using the telehandler from the frame build. I recall someone also suggesting getting packs of plaster board lifted in at an early stage to negate the need to carry them in later. We also live on an RAF and BAE low flight route, so we get the full range of aircraft, from Hawks to Typhoons and various helicopters and hybrids such as the Boeing V22 Osprey.
  7. A good result all round. I’m thankful I didn’t have your unnessessary hassle then my local DNO placed taller poles on my plot to deal with the low wires over my cabin. Don’t forget your annual fee for having their equipment on your land, I get £33 per year, £11 per pole.
  8. Looks like the council have pulled it. Shame!
  9. I’m sure there was someone mentioned on here who did PCB diagnostics and repairs?
  10. Others here will be along, no doubt to suggest where you can get this cheaper
  11. Just to be clear you connected a pair of wires to the board then threaded them through a hole, the bare ends touched and something went bang/pop? If it was 12v I’d start by looking at the twelve volt part of the board, transformer etc. is there power to the board? You’ve not blown/tripped a fuse/breaker further back?
  12. @FrancescaPaulI agree, the survey ends rather abruptly, there should be a final thank you page.
  13. Have you considered thermally broken aluminium farames? https://goo.gl/images/fTPGDG
  14. In a highly insulated home we found double glazing suffered from condensation. You might find the roof glazing drips on you !
  15. There’s nothing worse than a back problem, the last time I did my back it was weeks before I was right. You have my simpathy.
  16. I can remember being in a meeting where someone stated that they’d issed a document in PDF so as to ensure it’s couldn’t be tampered with, at the time I had some pdf editing software installed on my laptop, so opened the secure file and edited the title and the project bottom line cost and sent it back to them during the meeting so as to demonstrate the PDF wasn't assecure as some would have you believe.
  17. This is nothing new, the Victorians were doing it and you can buy thin joint mortar. So why not choose a standard brick and buy the thin joint mortar and you away! No need for expensive special bricks. https://www.pozament.co.uk/products/thin-joint-mortar/
  18. We joked with the Architect about Grand Designs, she very quickly and with a straight face, possibly thinking we were serious, suggested if that was the case her services wiould cost more, “as the design had to be right”.
  19. If the insulation is likely to sag I’m left wondering if the question should be, “am I using the correct insulation?”
  20. So the planners approve one thing, something else gets built. Where is Building Control in all this? Surely part of their remit must be to ensure what gets built is what was approved?
  21. The council admit losing the revised plans. Maybe the Council will see the light and admit they got it wrong!
  22. Maybe I’ll look for a local cabinet maker, I’d rather pay for real creaftmenship rather mass produced stuff !
  23. That was my thought, I just can see £27,000 of value in a kitchen. My first house cost less!
  24. Well the quote for our Leicht kitchen is in, £27,000. Remind me, what was Plan B.........
