  1. From what others have deduced the ASHP in question is a split unit and being second hand may not be worth buying as it requires a specialist install. ps. So you can’t sleep either!
  2. That’s what I was thinking. Mind you, it would be a 750 mile round trip if I bought it.
  3. The seller tells me the heat pump is 4.5kw power consumption, heating output is 7.7kw. Does that sound right?
  4. Found this image online. The indoor box is a heat exchanger and controls . Its only four months old because the owner wanted an old-fashioned gas combi.
  5. Just contacted the seller who says - The heat pump is 4.5kw power consumption, heating output is 7.7kw. Is it a split or a mono?
  6. Oh, I missed that, I'm sure I read is monobloc?
  7. Imtrying to establish what size this ASHP is and is it a model worth having? Viessmann Air Source Heat Pump complete with Indoor Unit & 200L Viessmann Buffer Tank. Buffer Tank Model - VC100-ESWV 200L. Air Source Model - Vitocal 200 - S/222/S/242/S

  9. Look what just dropped into my in box... https://www.rcplondon.ac.uk/projects/outputs/every-breath-we-take-lifelong-impact-air-pollution The report starkly sets out the dangerous impact air pollution is currently having on our nation’s health. Each year in the UK, around 40,000 deaths are attributable to exposure to outdoor air pollution which plays a role in many of the major health challenges of our day. It has been linked to cancer, asthma, stroke and heart disease, diabetes, obesity, and changes linked to dementia. The health problems resulting from exposure to air pollution have a high cost to people who suffer from illness and premature death, to our health services and to business. In the UK, these costs add up to more than £20 billion every year.

  12. It was this bit of the document that caught my eye .. "In constructions where the internal plasterboard slabs are not fixed directly to the timber frame stud, i.e. where insulation is fitted on the face of the stud, then the construction is not in compliance with I.S. 440:2009 Timber Frame Construction, Dwellings and Other Buildings and cannot be assumed as having a given fire resistance. " My bolding In my build, I have an internal service void, as do many other people.
  13. The panels sit in an off the shelf tray, costing around £80 per panel.
  14. This left me wondering, what is current best practice when constructing a Timber Framed house, with regard to the Fire Resistance?
  15. The 16 panels on my roof will save me £1,200 in slates. This does not include labour for fitting the slates. A quick check suggests the labour element of fixing 26m2 of slates is £2,800
  16. An extract from the quoted document.... " My bolding Oh hum..can we pick the above quote apart and discuss its implications?
  17. @Dudda Funny you should mention fire safety. Online the cheapest 900 x 1800 x 12.5mm plasterboard I can find is £3.00 per sheet, the fireline board is £5.75. In my case, a total cost for 12.5mm plasterboard would be £1.760 against Fireline at £3,372 and 15mm plasterboard at £2.439.
  18. It is if your kids are in Scouts! I remember viewing a house I was thinking of buying. I asked to look in the garage, however, it was dusk, so dark in the garage. The owner opening a draw in the kitchen and took out a lead with a plug on each end. He proceeded to plug it into two single sockets locate side-by-side. Hey Presto, we had light in the garage!
  19. Just checked our Building Regs drawings and there is only one note that states the bathroom ceiling will be 12.5mm Gyproc wallboard. I've calculated I need 950 m2 of plasterboard, any suggestions on cost-effective suppliers?
  20. It's raining, so I'm working out how much plasterboard I need to order. Quick question, which thickness? 9.5mm or 12.5? Do you use the same thickness throughout or what?
  21. I worked on major chemical plant construction projects for about ten years. Each day started with a team talk and signing various Permits to Work. I'd noticed a few people asked lots of questions before signing. This got the safety team thinking and doing some research we found that around 10% of the workforce were functionally illiterate and in many cases could not read the Permit to Work, or the job method statements, and would rely on others for verbal instructions and guidance. That's not so say they weren't cracking workers, some were master craftsmen in their particular area of expertise. If you can't read technical publications and or write with sufficient confidence to take part in technical discussion forums, how are you to learn?
  22. I regularly find suppliers doing that 'sucking air through their teeth' thing, ooh a self-builder with lots of money to spend, oooh where is my nieve muppet price list!! For example. When I started my self-build 4 years ago, I took my architects drawings into Travis Perkins, I sat down with the branch manager and he gave me the whole blurb about what great deals they could do for a self-builder and to leave a set of drawings with him and he'd get his QS and once he'd priced it up I'd get fantastic trade prices! Four years later I still waiting for him to get back to me, however, I did get a Trade Card, it's quite good for applying filler, I also use it in winter to remove ice from my car windscreen. I've been in the local branch twice in that four years, presented my trade card and enquired about the price of something. I each case the TP price was at least double what I eventually paid elsewhere locally, internet prices are usually best.
  23. Yes Amvic, great product, Easy to use on site. Easy to cut. Quick to install. Average customer service. No help at all with the temporary props needed for the pour, along the lines of, "oh all our props are out, you'll just have to wait for some top come free", how long? Don't know. Then I get a call to say there are some free on a site four miles from mine, but "you'll have arrange your own transport". Get there to be told there are no Amvic props on site as they'd been returned a couple of weeks previously. The good thing that came out of this was the site agent, having heard my problems and delays, loaded me his homemade steel props free! Result! Saved me £300 in hire charges.
  24. The indoor air monitoring at the end of the project was interesting. In a past life I managed a project to carry out indoor air monitoring in around 200 properties. The results were very revealing, people being exposed to diy and petroleum products from attached garages, drug use, smoking combustion products, leaky chimneys and flues, very minor gas leaks, cleaning products, you could see them all.
  25. I’ve just emailed the company behind the eBay offering, asking for a price for everything necessary for an in-roof, all black system, including an inverter to allow a 50:50 split over a south and west facing door. Let’s see what the final price is!
