  1. My architects design is for a layer of OSB on the outside of the frame for racking strength, thus is then covered with layer of EPS fixed directly onto the OSB. I’m aware that others have applied rendering directly onto the EWI.
  2. @ProDave how does your system work and is it approved ?
  3. So if your wood fibre is fixed directly to the frame and then rendered directly onto that, is there any reason why I couldnt fit EWI over my frame and render directly onto that?
  4. Would you not fit an extract connected to the ventilation heat recovery system?
  5. My wife does the same, she describes it as a "hot flush"! whatever that is!!!
  6. I’ve had the same problem with an accommodation block on a Scout camp site. Occupants would turn the wall stat up to maximum out of habit. After months of trying to set a nice temperature, only to find someone had fiddled with the room stat yet again, we disconnected it and fitted a hidden stat to control the temperature. The upshot was we never got complaints about being cold and the occupants could fiddle with the room stat to their hearts content.
  7. One approach would be to discuss your concerns with the builder and possibility of leaks in the future. Follow up your discussions with an email covering the points raised and discussed. Then forget about it. Using modern materials, the roof is unlikely to leak and if it does you then go back to the builder to rectify.
  8. I must admit I was somewhat taken aback by the price!
  9. I live about 10 miles away.
  10. Yes, mind you they tell me they have never been busier. Then I read in the news that property values could fall by a third in the event of a no deal Brexit.
  11. No doubt someone with experience of modern renders will be along to enlighten on which is best.
  12. ErP stands for ‘Energy-related products'. From the 26th September 2015 under EU regulations ground source heat pumps, as well as air source heat pumps, boilers and water heaters, are required by law to have labels to show their energy performance as an individual product and when part of an overall heating system.
  13. How about this one https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.co.uk%2Fulk%2Fitm%2F352454254568
  14. I’m watching this with interest, my design calls for a 50/50 mix of Cedral and Krend over render boards. So a cost effective solution is what I'm looking for.
  15. Very nice job, well worth the time and effort.
  16. The Timber Frame company has been on site today carrying out a final measure of my DIY insulated slab foundation, I got the impression they thought I couldn’t use a tape measure, mind you the foundation is L shaped and includes a sunken basement section with three sets of patio doors opening onto a sunken lawned area. Thankfully everything was in order and the frame goes into production next week, with errection starting in eight weeks. Best get the slates, render board, Cedral boards, gutters, windows etc ordered.
  17. I lived close to Manchester and still have a few contacts in the local haulage business, PM me with sizes and weights and I’ll see if i can get you a better deal, £1000 sounds a lot!
  18. Was it a DIY installation, where did you get your kit from?
  19. I’ve had the first of the local scaffolding companies visit the site to take photos and measure up. Apparently the build willneed a complicated scaffold as the house is L shaped and has a number of different roof heights. I'm expecting this quote to be high.
  20. It was me, I’ve Sent you a PM with my details.
  21. Ive seen old car seat belts used as sacrificial strops. Just cut them off and leave the rest under the slab.
  22. This is what I’m going to install. So I’m within the DNOs rules and The 3.8kw export limit. It’s the excess generation I’m questioning, when I’ve hit the limit and not using any power within the home, what happens to all those unused electrons?
  23. I hear you’ve just got a load of private messages!
  24. I’m limited in how much I can export to the grid ( 3.8Kw ) - fine, this can be achieved using settings in the inverter. So the plan is to install 4Kw’s worth of solar panel in the roof. However, could I install 5 or even 6Kw worth of panels? What happens if I’m exporting to the 3.8Kw limit and NOT using any of the extra power being generated in the house? Am I going to blow something, a fuse, the panels, an immersion element? I never did understand electrikery.
  25. If it’s a wooden block Work top, why not sand the bowed area down and re-oil the sanded area once finished.
