My plant room is in part of the basement containing two bedrooms and a lounge. Maybe rather than OSB covered plasterboard, I’ll go for Firmcell or similar render board to give me a fire proof finish, particularly as two walls are ICF.

I have a small plant room in which I’ll be installing the Electrics, Sunamp, UFH manifolds, MVHR box, hot and cold water distribution manifolds etc. I was wondering what I should be covering the stud walls with, I suppose the choices are OSB, Plaster board, Firmcell or something similar. What has others used and why?

I need some CAT5 for the outside CCTV cameras, can anyone advises which type (specification) of cable I need? Only a few 10s of mm will be outside in the sun, the rest will be hidden inside under the floor.

I thought I'd shop around for two 12 zone bare manifolds for my UFH project (no pump or mixing thermostat). It was interesting to see the large variation in cost, over £200. I was wondering about Apps that Monitor or Control things, anyone got any good examples?

A friend of mine, the Englishman, is moving to Scotland to buy a plot in the Highlands. He’s never self built before and knows nothing about self building in Scotland. I was reading an Article about APPs and wondered which ones you use, that are of any use to a self builder, for monitoring or control and ar3 they any good? Which ones would you recommend?

Don’t fall in, not very nice at all.

If you use lime to build your stone or brick house, you will be able to remove said line and reuse the stone or brick. If you use OPC you won’t be able to remove it and your only option is to crush the lot to be used as low value hardcore.

Isn't the UFH water inlet temperature dependent upon the required room temperature and established by trial and error?

It’s algal growth due to the water in the cistern being cold and the air above it being warmer.

I’ve got the free design, all 80 pages, it’s centred around what a single manufacturer has to offer, so some good ideas and some not so good ideas. My main problem id that I’m a bloke and I’ve no vision! I also have three large rooms with cathedral ceilings and a basement that need carful lighting. Im going to ask around locally (Cumbria and North Lancashire) if anyone can recommend someone to do a design. I’d hate to spoil the ship for the want of decent lighting.
