  1. This what I think I know The big visible clay pipe is for rainwater but runs to the same vertical sewer as the soil pipe which runs through the inspection chamber. I assume they join together before meeting the vertical pipe. I'm thinking of removing the wall to the north of the chamber then cut a channel from that direction to fit in the new waste pipe and make good. It will mean the deposits from the new WC will arrive at the old clay pipe exactly where the rodding cut out is situated. Is this okay?
  2. Change of plan...under the floor was never going to work. So dug first hole and found this... New pipe will be coming in from top of the picture. Plan was to put in a branch to the left of the gas pipe and break up the brick north of it. I thought it was a foundation for an old garden wall but... It's not! And the inside... Now for some head scratching. Could keep digging elsewhere and further wreck the garden or is it feasible to bring the new pvc pipe into the clay pipe and cement it all in place?
  3. Nice grain on the ply...good job?
  4. Roof mounted communal satellite dish?
  5. Think I'm blessed because my build was a modest hut and my expectations were lower...was up today helping a neighbour with his decking and we popped next door for lunch into my Hut. The odd creak or red wine stain matters not a jot, I'm actually very pleased and *forgive me* quite proud of what I've created. It's the quality of the time you spend cooking a meal or having a smoke and a half on the balcony that makes it good? Have some friends around and crack open the fantastic value rioja from Lidl...get in?
  6. That's a great first post and I'm sure will be helpful. Is there a rough rule of thumb for what you should expect to pay? For instance, standard timber frame, 250m....3/4/5% of build cost?
  7. I bought some Tacwise stuff from tool station and saw the date on it was August 2016...told the worker and she apologised and said she didn't know it had a shelf life. Took it anyway as I needed it that day. It worked okay but with a lot of shots the hammer didn't return fully and had to manually push it back in...real pain in the... So, next visit I took them back to another store. The bloke there said the date wasn't a use by date but date of manufacture and they are good for a year... My one needs a service now?
  8. Take em back and ask for swap or refund...I did at toolstation and it was no fuss ?
  9. That's a lot of work between now and November, well done! And do post more pics?
  10. I know nothing about roofs but the corner tile looks too high and needs to come down just a tad.
  11. You went for the sloping roof... 1. Because the wife preferred it 2. Because it's Scotland 3. Because you gave it away by saying 'initially' 4. Just call me Sherlock???
  12. Yes it was! My Hut wasn't filmed although I did meet the crew at Alan's hut and took them over some milk for tea? It was interesting listening to the story from the elderly lady speaking about dog fights during the Clydebank blitz. It's got a long history, Carbeth...
  13. I got these, very easy... http://www.screwfix.com/p/erbauer-countersink-12-7-x-70mm/86157?bvrrp=5873-en_gb/reviews/product/2/86157.htm
  14. Thanks to all guys. It's not going to happen after all, the committee said no?
  15. Zoom in and looks like an El Gusto boiler and a Roca suite...probably in Spain?
  16. Might be building a few huts.... One site has several big...very big oak trees surrounding and a few have lost big *200mm diameter* branches. Now, there's a balance between woodland living and the chance of catastrophe. We're not short of winter gales but it's probably unlikely the Hut would be inhabited during a storm...however...is it feasible to make the construction super beefy without breaking the budget? First question is truss versus ridge beam? This is based on 4.8 x 6m rectangle, all timber, walls 4x2 @ 400 centres, 15mm OSB racking.
  17. There are good pics on Google Images if you search for lead flashing on dormer windows. Several ways of doing it...according to the pics?
  18. Be better to contact your local Social Work Department...happy to offer free advice? save you the long prison time?
  19. Right, okay, it's not got a steering wheel and doesn't want to stop and you call yourself a driver...! Next thing you'll be saying is it doesn't have a CD or satnav? I'd join a Union
  20. Finished everything, hand printed the house warming invitations, went shopping and left crispy duck in the oven and cold beer in the fridge.?
  21. Or...fly to the States and buy some rock splicer *TM* http://www.thisisdrywall.com/?p=362 Same principle, in that you bend the butt join inwards away from plumb so it's easy to fill but still ensure the integrity of the board...I'd get a quote for a skim, bet you won't regret the extra payout. Then again, holiday guests won't care in the slightest...
  22. Can't you take a multi tool and cut a feather edge once the board is screwed home? Then tape and fill...?
  23. I'm glad you're writing this Ali, good for the soul I expect? Also, puts into perspective my reticence to climb below the floor and make the branch connection I need to my 3 1/2 inch cast iron soil pipe! Living in Maryhill, Glasgow for many years, I've seen the results of a 36" water main rupture...think hole big enough for a double deck bus to fall into...*your* pipe is similar at 1m. Not sure about pressure differences between water and gas but guessing gas is higher? Maybe @JSHarris would know. Maybe just as well the company are taking a conservative view of pipe security?
  24. http://www.eastneukglass.com Make your own...? More fun than paying for a commission
  25. Some have asked before about getting some feature stained glass for their projects. I went on a make your own workshop yesterday and made this in six hours. It's not too difficult and had a real good time doing this with Keny Drew in his studio in Crail in Fife.
