  1. our ditch never gets that full, the wash out was of the stone below the pipe rather than the pipe itself but in different circumstances the above would be a good idea.
  2. ha, when I enquired about “rumble drains” I was told the rumble bit had to extend to the ditch, this was so when the ditch was flowing it would enter the rumble bit to “wash it out “.
  3. I installed a Vortex here in Devon discharging into a ditch that’s dry for a few months of the summer, you have to discharge using a “rumble drain”. A ditch is dug, filled with drainage stone, perforated pipe laid in the stone, more stone on top, plastic sheet then topsoil. Works a treat ? and no drainage field to fail in the future.
  4. Well done, feels good don’t it doing it yourself.
  5. Welcome Jim from another Devon self builder, bring the questions on. Main issue with a treatment plant is where you discharge it. I am on clay and installed a Vortex which is allowed to discharge to a ditch that’s dry part of the year, a lot cheaper than drainage field and lasts longer.
  6. My 3 mtr bifolds work very well, made locally in Oak with German running gear. Fully adjustable hinges etc I specced solid seals as I had heard brush seals leak badly (mine came with both!). We love them.
  7. I would have thought any “decent” timber merchant could supply that, my local one can. Only needs a thicknesser/planer ( I have one but am a long way from you ???)
  8. This is in my cloakroom!!,,
  9. I considered a straw bale build and helped on a couple of sites with theirs, looking forward to details. Timber frame?, spray or hand applied lime render? Etc etc. Oh and welcome.
  10. No, work smarter, not harder, anyone can knock their b####x off but why when there’s a machine to do the hard work.
  11. I am on the Devon Cornwall builder and will have a container for sale soon!!,!, (just joking, but I do!). You may well find banks shun non traditional building methods and the planners round here HATE anything non traditional.
  12. Ask the tiler to replace the tile as you told him not to cut it!. However, as you have cable there are you not liable to have access to it (new build electrics not allowed to have hidden joins so I am told).
  13. Same happened with me, they kept visiting saying it was complete and habitable, the trick @Jeremy Harris came up with was to not connect the water supply till YOU wanted to have it complete, apparently a house has to have a potable water supply to be deemed habitable. This could also screw up your VAT claim as paying council tax can be seen as the house is complete when you are still spending money (VAT) on other works and you only have three months from completion to claim you’re VAT back.
  14. @Conor, just make sure you measure it correctly, we don’t want a repeat performance now do we ?
  15. Frankly if you and the church agree and you have a document showing their agreement who’s going to argue? After so many years it will not matter anyway. I sold a strip of land on a previous house and land registry records were completely wrong but they accepted our mutual agreement and altered their records ?.

My respect as well, you must feel very proud !
  17. does that mean that land registry shows something different?
  18. Another Titan owner who is pleased although it’s not had a lot of use was dead handy fir the odd heavy job. My smaller dewalt is used fir most things nowadays.
  19. My local GRP suppliers in Bristol were very helpful with advise, links to vids etc.
  20. I have not done a roof this way but I like the idea of pre sealing sheets of osb/ply with GRP (in the dry) then cutting/fitting them, you only need to cover screws/nails and joins then top coat the lot with grey.
  21. Great, all I have to do is get my grinder and a load of disks and butcher my spare bucket, trouble is I am on clay and it would just clog up.
  22. That is why I have a 68 year old dumper, a 65 year old tractor and a 52 year old classic car to play with. My day to day car has to go to a garage for a diagnostic even to bleed the brakes!!,!,
  23. I did make this but still needs shovelling, anything bigger will take ages to make and only be used once so probably not worth it, a little every day (is my plan). what’s that like??.
  24. I am finding our “garden “daunting”, just got rid of 53 tons of clay and slowly levelling the plot and trying to get topsoil roughly level with the JCB. The plot (including the meadow) is an acre. Problem with the “meadow “is stones, millions of them and the only route is to hand pick them up ?. Still it’s getting there and I am really looking forward to growing plants and veg next year, I bought loads of scaffold boards fir the build and they are earmarked fir raised beds over clay fir the veg behind the workshop
  25. I taught myself how to do GRP using on line tutorials (several different ones). As @SteamyTea says everything has to be bone dry and very temperature dependant but it is do able, might be best to get some help in (many hands make light work). I have done quite a few flat roofs in GRP and not had any problems.
