  1. this is why I think people have the “wrong end of the stick” on this matter. I wonder how many people know we use chlorine as mentioned above?
  2. Yes, my wife’s father (who lived on this plot) used to bury all his rubbish and nails and bits of metal keep surfacing, can’t believe I have not had a puncture yet In my machinery!
  3. When I lived in shropshire a local quarry sold “stone dust” and it used to off like concrete when it got damp.
  4. I also did not know what hoggin was, but was considering “self binding gravel“ For my drive which appears similar, just looked fir a supplier and this does not mention clay, just 10mm to dust......(with all the clay on my site I am sick of the stuff ?). Dandy's Hoggin Self Binding Gravel is 10mm down to dust, in a golden brown tone. The fines make it ideal for areas with a firmer finish when compacted.
  5. However we forget about salad! Chlorine-rinsed bagged salads are common in the UK and other countries in the EU.
  6. Tyre foundations I have seen before have the tyres touching, not seen one with gaps before, I guess when it’s backfilled it will all bind together.
  7. brick or block houses rely on friction (Mortor does not stick to DPC!).
  8. I come across bits of asbestos on my site all the time, old chap that lived here buried all his rubbish and I keep finding batteries etc. The timber and asbestos bungalow burnt down before we started and I had to clean the site and have it taken away fir disposal. In the past I used to blow the dust from brakes (asbestos) without protection. I would doubt you have a problem with such a short exposure.
  9. why, some old tanks seem to go on forever, worth an inspection. When I lived in Shropshire a neighbour who had an old property had to re render the inside to please the BI when he did the place up.
  10. +1 all the above, yes they make a little noise but if you have room (and you do) you can place it away from the house, I installed a Vortex myself and very pleased with it . It is generally agreed (on this forum) to avoid plants that have moving parts down in the smelly stuff ?. Rules for Scotland In Scotland, you must REGISTER a sewage discharge, both new and existing, with SEPA. If it is an existing discharge that has been in use since 1st. April 2006, then you can register it if it is for 15 persons or less. If was in use BEFORE this date, then you can register it if it is for 50 persons or less. For populations higher than these, on the dates above, the you need to apply for a LICENCE from SEPA. For the full list of rules, see https://www.sepa.org.uk/regulations/water/small-scale-sewage-discharges/
  11. yes. i would always tie the pillars in, blocks on their side then blocks upright, corners are always better tied in (blocks overlapping).
  12. Arrrgh, just tried googling “Roma blinds” and my iPad says “do you mean Roman blinds”NO and it won’t let me look for Roma. (Bloody computers eh).
  13. Thinking outside the box (as I do) (and I like spring water), your back garden slopes upwards, if you collected spring water 20m above the house you will get 2bar pressure ! Also being a Luddite I like simplicity, pumps, wifi etc can/will all go wrong at some point.
  14. it simply stops any movement of the brickwork by being braced against a triangulated roof structure.
  15. A big old house near where I lived in Bristol had these which is where I got the idea ?.
  16. Will you retain ownership of the land above you where the spring is?.
  17. Have you had the water tested?, our water here has iron and a few other nasties so had a special filter system till we demolished it and went with mains as it was available in the road. I would love spring water as a supply. Previous owner (wifes father) used to drink the water with no filtering and lived to a ripe old age.
  18. Following general elections in 2017 and 2019, Parliament ratified the withdrawal agreement, and the UK left the EU at 11 p.m. GMT on 31 January 2020. ...
  19. I thought we left ?. or they could have given the details of an EU dealer that might consider exporting to you!.
  20. @Gardenlover do your neighbours want to do the same? If they do you can help one another with statements of use.
  21. Yes I also did this, told the council I could get signed statements and they caved in.
  22. Yup, hi vis jacket, couple of bollards and look all official like! Take a peek, who,s going to question you?
  23. Come on , man up, get on with it ?, no really, well done, best not to over do it, rest up them it will feel better to crack on later. Looking real good ?.
