  1. Having fitted many kitchens I concur that fitting the sink can be a tricky one, no one answer for all circumstances, may be best to get a chippie in that’s done this before.
  2. Well if I install PV I will time my ASHP to come on at say 11am and go off at 4pm, that way the ASHP which feeds both DHW and UFH (when required) to use any excess generated electricity, if the sun is not shining it will use grid power. Yes, can’t use it all in summer but it’s always a compromise. I will get no FIT but any going to the grid saves other forms of generation. Well in the summer the sun should still be shining (a bit). I am not sure that tea time cooking uses more power than DHW and/or heating 🤔
  3. Ah, no, in roof trays that accept PV panels so you only slate around the panels. Example https://www.deegesolar.co.uk/integrated_solar_panels/
  4. In roof installation saving cost of tiles/slates,!!
  5. Just like loosing the TV remote!
  6. Why I would not have PV on my “cottage with character “ but will have it on my workshop. 👍
  7. I just remembered a few years ago friends came to stay over new year and after a few too many, during the night , a lady guest went to the bathroom and not wanting to disturb others left the light off, forgot where the loo was and burnt her bum on the electric radiator. ( I have since changed the element to a lower wattage) . A visit to the freezer to get a pack of cold peas to soothe the burn but didn’t realise the pack was open so spent time picking frozen peas from the bedclothes. A year to remember.
  8. I get that, when at a hotel years ago the ensuite had a sensor that triggered a very low glowing light in the bathroom to avoid this very problem (probably to save cleaning the floor as much 😱). I have the sensor and light and just like @Onoff it’s on my to do list 🤞
  9. To get the flexi pipes to my ASHP I core drilled 2 x 80mm holes and used pipe insulation with 75mm OD from the unit right through to the inside and sealed to the plaster skin with flexible silicone.
  10. I can understand lights on sensors being a good idea but being a Luddite I believe a lot is just more tech to go wrong. When I used to work in an office I was always the one to volunteer to go to the copier, make the tea, fetch the parcels so I could get off my ass as much as possible. Headline last year. “Sitting is the new smoking”
  11. You can get DIY kits far cheaper than that, I did not put PV on my build but am considering it now prices are rising as I can shift my DHW and slab heating to midday (when it should be sunny) with a timer on my ASHP. I also believe batteries are not there yet cost wise. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/325162613134?hash=item4bb533b98e:g:tZoAAOSwiwZcG6G6
  12. I beg to differ, my ‘good’ plasterer does not do this, the tendency is to sweep the trowel upwards leaving thicker plaster at the bottom.
  13. I have found a few plasterers that tend to do this.
  14. I core drilled mine from the inside till the pilot drill penetrated the outside, then using the pilot hole finished from the outside which stops brick bits flaking off. (We did still have scaff up tho). Just sealed inside where the airtightness barrier should be.
  15. Mink are renowned for killing lots of wildlife.
  16. Thermal underwear and fur coat 🤷‍♂️
  17. Yes I am on yellow clay, building Inspector said 1m deep and 700mm wide (for our 400mm wide walls), no ground survey 🤷‍♂️.
  18. “The couple claim that builders should have accounted for this when building the home, which came with a 10-year guarantee under the Local Authority Building Control.”
  19. Fork lift hire? 🤔
  20. You may need to get the carb sonic cleaned (crud in inaccessible places)?
  21. You might find this helpful. https://www.tkstairs.com/information-help/building-regulations/domestic-building-regulations-explained
  22. I had a policy for my kids from an early age to explain exactly what things cost , an electricity bill comes in and I showed them. Some people thought I was ‘grumpy old dad “ but it did pay off (to an extent), now they have their own houses they are not completely surprised at bills and have actually said I did them a favour in the past.
  23. I beg to differ, the wall is 340mm below the landing height! So plenty of room for the riser. Might be worth trying a stair designer to see if another option is available.
  24. I DIY installed my cheap ASHP from Ebay (good make but old stock). I had to get a qualified plumber to sign off the pressurised DHW tank bit and did the electrics myself (previous knowledge) so yes it is completely doable DIY 👍.
