  1. Is that the case ? (would anybody notice, do they do spot checks 🤷‍♂️).
  2. Just make sure that the house infrastructure can change to an ASHP in the future if you are going gas but PV,EV, ASHP is the future IMO.
  3. Any chance of solar panels on the roof? Time you’re ASHP to daylight hours, win win. With a good COP electric costs about the same as gas to run currently. You need a proper heat analysis to work out your “needs”. In a well insulated house it’s DHW thats the major consumer most of the year.
  4. That’s a very good idea 👍
  5. I found it’s difficult to accurately mark a number of holes so I would fix either end on your bolts (making sure it’s level) then drill the other 5 in between through the timber into the wall, all 7 should then line up, remove timber, fit bolts/studs with your spacers the re fix timber to all 7 studs 👍
  6. Really good info, well done. All you need now is to replace the gas fire with a flat screen TV and flame effect screen saver 🤣
  7. https://www.screwfix.com/p/rawlplug-rawlbolts-m10-x-75mm-5-pack/20828 👍
  8. It beggars belief, bats have more “human rights” than humans, unfortunately you have to do as you are told, it’s no wonder people rip roofs off before applying for planning to stop this nonsense. At least my environmentalist was reasonable and I built bat boxes in my workshop not house (just because they were in the area) but they have never been used).
  9. Surely this has all been calculated? Taken into consideration for door heights etc, even taking into account tiles or other flooring?
  10. Wow, just read that long link but the end result is as I expected, planners know nothing about the rules (don’t get me started about planners, I went to appeal about our build and won), his went to appeal and he won, decking height is measured next to the house (max 300mm) and any slope acceptable , all done under PD. (As long as you retain PD rights?).
  11. My daughter tried that but they were not taking on more customers when she tried!!!!
  12. I recon that’s not lathe and plaster but plasterboard, joints originally done badly, not structural just needs grinding out and jointing properly.
  13. Recently I replaced the whole ground floor of a bungalow (woodworm) and only supported with noggins short ends where a square cut was needed (doorways etc).
  14. As above I would point it up and keep an eye on it.
  15. I have never done that with short ends, with proper glue it becomes one piece, never had a problem and no squeaks!
  16. I also made my own terminals (cheap skate) but did the throttling at the manifold as some have said the terminals with throttles can make noise in the room, our Jeremy did the same thing 👍
  17. Just a ply box split in half, one side “input” the other “exhaust “. All flexi pipes siliconed into the box, the dampers are really “Heath Robinson “ Perspex discs mounted on dowels and a nail to turn and indicate position. Large pipes into MVHR as the pic. Box lined with sound absorbing foam with baffle to make the air go around the silencer before exiting, foam strip to seal lid when screwed on.
  18. As said above that is very tight IMO, screws or nails very close to the edge of plasterboard is not good as it can crumble, as you have already bought it then then use it but double up at plasterboard edges, or buy more at 50mm just fir the edges.
  19. I have done many refurbs and finally a demo and new build, I found the new build refreshing and better to get everything right from the start as long as the finance stacks up, I lived in a caravan on site during the build (retired) and loved it, doing many of the jobs myself whilst employing a main contractor to do the shell. It also depends on what the planners will allow so go online and see what people nearby have been allowed to build/extend.
  20. I would never floor around the end panels, they should be fitted on top of the flooring IMO, However as said above a coloured mastic will do it .
  21. I agree, just needs a good chipee
  22. If the formal front door is made to look like a door but the second is a copy of the cladding it won’t be apparent. I built my brothers back gate onto a public path but looks like the fence so people are surprised when he disappears through it, he’d wanted it “hidden” to stop people breaking in.
  23. Ah, a bit far from cornwall where my chap is 🤷‍♂️
  24. Good fir you 👍 all my doors and windows were custom made by a local company you just need to find one, where in the country are you.?
  25. Economy of scale!, when ASHPs are produced in large numbers like gas boilers then the price will come down, same as anything IMO.
