Perhaps the word “opposite” rather than “reverse” then, a heat pump that produces the opposite result, heat rather than cold 🤷♂️ -
Orientation of house to road vs. preferred orientation for sun
joe90 replied to Alan Ambrose's topic in Planning Permission
Unfortunately not, I took legal advise and was told policies are open to interpretation and making a claim can only be done if you can prove they purposely told lies or hid facts, plus the fact I was so relieved to finally get started I wanted to crack on. -
One of my mantra,s is “doing it right in the first place cost much less than putting right afterwards (and easier)”

Orientation of house to road vs. preferred orientation for sun

Okeydokey, some here have heard this already but here we go……on site was a nearly derelict asbestos and tin bungalow, 3 bed (nearly 🤔), we planned to replace it with a 3 bed cottage, phoned planners (when they used to answer the phones) fir pre app advise and was told we could extend the footprint by about 40% with no bother but we wanted 2 story and they said yes but only extend the footprint by 10%. I did our plans and applied fir planning, refused and told they wanted a bungalow!!,!, altered plans to room in roof (like next door) but told still too big. Reduced in size again (not what we wanted really and still refused.). I then sought the advise of a planning adviser highly recommended and he said apply for what they want but the lower story what we wanted, then appeal to the Secretary of State on our original application. This enabled the build to begin and hopefully the appeal would come through before we got to the second floor. Hooray, we won at appeal and the planners were told they were not abiding by their own policies, so the top floor was what we wanted in the first place. People wonder why I have no faith in planners . -
I hope you have not paid already? Yes cowboys abound!

I much prefer ruggedness and mountains fir holidays than Spanish beaches etc. When touring Europe a few years ago we took the mountain roads through the Alps, stunning.- 56 replies

At a previous house I planned to build a conservatory but the neighbour complained I would be able to see straight into her bedroom (bungalow) via her kitchen, when I pointed out that the view would be no different from me sitting on the existing patio and it was her that built close to the boundary she bought a blind for her window 🤣 -

Yes, I don’t see how the council can say it’s amenity land but privately owned. The neighbour was allowed to enclose “their property” I get the “highway” argument so 1m only allowed but not the “amenity” argument. Our deeds show our boundary with the road being the hedge which is about 1m from the road giving a verge as part of the highway.

Exactly, this was part of our planning argument, highways stated the verge was part of the highway (for a country road anyway, ) as her dead’s show her boundary is the edge of the path I can’t see planners call it a highway otherwise the deeds from the time it was built would show this. I used to work with a chap years ago that had amenity land outside his hedge but was shown on his deeds as his and he was allowed to erect a 2m fence (not sure how close to the pavement tho).

I would be wary of pre app, I did this and was told all ok, then got 4 refusals in a line so I appealed and got what I wanted In the first place. -

If you have abided by the rules then I don’t believe they have a leg to stand on. -
The cheapest option for a temporary storage in the garden?

If your only damp/water is condensation then these won’t need a seal 😎 https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/115366808456?hash -

Buy a cheap second hand frame tent but put your small tools is plastic boxes to prevent rust -
Ha, as I am bored (don’t ask) I looked at a cycling forum and loads of threads about cycles being a vehicle or not, I found this one funny. Well I got refused service at a McDonald's Drive-Through (long story, don't ask) about a month ago because my bike (with trailer) was not a vehicle. Apparently it's Health-and-Safety! The great legal mind behind the counter was not to persuaded otherwise...

joe90 replied to JohnBishop's topic in Garages & Workshops
Most tents have an inner skin in the bedrooms to avoid condensation dripping on occupants, one of my customers put a plastic shed in their garden and as soon as it was cold it ran with condensation horribly. You mention it’s only temporary till you get a shed, why not bring that shed forward and save the temporary solution. Rusty tools are horrible. -

You will get a lot more in a frame tent, if it’s got metal poles and you use guy ropes will be more secure 👍 -
I was going to insulate my shipping container but over two years it has had no condensation at all!.
