  1. I think an SE would need to give advise on this, yes snow loading is a real thing (till we get some decent global warming 🤣).
  2. I also have several trees close to my build, the BC wanted the oak tree removed but forgot about it and the foundation trench showed no roots so it’s still there. I would a/ wait till the founds are dug, b/ see what BC say. It would be a shame to loose trees if not required.
  3. It’s the sort of thing I would do without a thought years ago, older and wiser now tho. If the chap has the right experience and you think he is reliable then why not? I once put my scaffold tower on my car port roof to access the roof, got some funny looks but with a couple of acros underneath it was fine.
  4. I believe you will need to take up a fair bit of boarding but am sure with adding joists lapping and bolted to the existing they could be extended. Yes a structural engineers input would be good (but I would do it myself as I have a history of building and have an understanding of loads etc) .
  5. The problem with that is you will need to raise the walls and match the stonework! (More work/expense), I would raise the dormer from the existing wall with slate hung vertical (to match the roof) below the actual window. (Can’t find a picture but have built some like this in the past). Or build the dormer back from the wall at a height to match the cill to the vertical stud wall required within the room.
  6. Hi and welcome, looking forward to hearing about your re-furb . Remember, insulate, insulate, insulate 👍
  7. That’s so right, very sorry to hear about your hubby but sounds like he will make progress, fingers crossed eh! We never know what’s round the corner in life despite the best laid plans. 🤞
  8. Mine is timed fir daytime usage but unsure I am doing harm this way, found this https://heatpumps.co.uk/2013/08/13/stand-by-power-and-air-source-heat-pumps/
  9. The lowest position possible IMO , insert a “T” and the above fitting into the bottom of the “T”, you can remove the whole plug thing to release any sludge.
  10. Yes, from many threads on this forum it’s been established that there have been no deaths from legionella in a domestic situation in this country, I keep my DHW at 48’ purely as that is most efficient fir my ASHP and hot enough for every use within the house. I have a larger DHW tank as I have to blend less for showers and baths. I believe others here do the same.
  11. Just the other side of the wall, I ran the string through a section of hollow tent pole drilled through the wall, I even stained the string black to match. No wires, no batteries, nothing to go wrong (except the string breaking 🤣) remember I hate “tech”.
  12. It faces North so no UV damage, yes a porch with outer door (air lock). Local timber company made all my windows and doors, also the oak conservatory. Just outside Bude, Devon. I don’t do “tech” and love my doorbell. (Ebay). https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/115205937618?hash well done on getting your PP 👍
  13. No, my pipes went the shortest route wherever.
  14. This was made for me locally
  15. I suggest you get a quote, or several, to get an idea of costs. Anything is possible but without seeing it I doubt anyone could give a real answer. It also depends on whether you have combined drains or not.
  16. I have just bought Jamie Oliver’s “one pot cooking” 👍
  17. No I didn’t 🖕
  18. HRC? (Hot return cct 🤔) I know my hot runs are fairly short but 10mm to basins give hot water in seconds.
  19. https://www.screwfix.com/p/bristan-bsp-quarter-turn-ceramic-tap-valves-pack/8367J?tc=MB8&ds_kid=92700046986170840&ds_rl=1241687&ds_rl=1245250&ds_rl=1245725&ds_rl=1245250&gclid=Cj0KCQjwqc6aBhC4ARIsAN06NmMRubyT5mpBfvrOpO1jpGG_tn0J9AC-Sl7qkuHL00y2lsjiBemcTpMaAp3zEALw_wcB&gclsrc=aw.ds these should fit, no need to go in behind or underneath I think.
  20. Well I didn’t bother, insulation only slows heating loss and if usage is not very often then not worth it IMO.
  21. Can you not use the original granite walls for load bearing?, you would then need far less support for a timber internal structure?
  22. If I remember correctly he only had a borehole because he was a long way from a water main and ÂŁÂŁÂŁÂŁ to connect.
  23. You can replace the cartridge on those, might be tight to remove.
  24. Especially the chocolate ones 🤮
  25. He also ditched his home brewed weather compensating heating control as it was not off the shelf and no one would understand it (including his wife) so he replaced it with a room stat (kiss) 👍
