How to control an Ecodan with UFH manifolds?
joe90 replied to ADringer's topic in Air Source Heat Pumps (ASHP)
Yes I have a room stat in the hallway that operates the manifold pump and draws water from a buffer tank heated by the ASHP. -
I am not, so from your links above the “nasty” chemical has not been used since 2013, every day is a school day and that is why I like this forum, not only building topics. But it’s not used fir cooking food! 🤷♂️

I used to have a desk top little oven and it was great, thinking of getting another one as a huge oven must use a lot of power (mind it helps heat the kitchen in winter 🤔)

Strip footings or insulated raft?
joe90 replied to Selfbuildnewbie's topic in Insulated Concrete Formwork (ICF)
I had a quote fir a raft just fir my garage and it was huge so went with strip foundations. Fir the house I also went this way as no SE involved, BC okayed the trench and used this method to avoid thermal bridges. (My builder altered it slightly to reduce the “slip plane” above the skirting board). -
Raising the roof, scissor or raised tie truss...
joe90 replied to bobbert's topic in Lofts, Dormers & Loft Conversions
I really like the look of (decent) dormers but they are more difficult to Insulate well (thick cheeks) but maybe at your latitude you are less worried about that. Secondly a steel or glulam ridge will allow a cut roof giving a completely clear void in there.- 10 replies

So sorry to hear that but well done fir being on the mend, my brother had a stroke a few months ago and made a full recovery. Just goes to show we never know what’s around the corner in life.

You really need to decide on a warm or cold roof, warm roof you insulate above rafters, cold roof you insulate at ceiling level. If you are not going to use the loft as living space then a cold roof would be my plan, no TLX just membrane, 300mm knauf would be good with trays at the eaves to leave ventilation up into the loft. No need to insulate the gable if the roof void is cold 🤔

+1, not sure why you need an architect, your SE can provide the detail required by BC, drawings can be done by an architectural technician (cheaper).

Well, I have had leylandi and as long as it is cut twice or maybe three times a year I found it ok, yes it’s the fastest growing but as said above there are many others to choose from.

Welcome, with the cost of fuel rising insulate, insulate, insulate, you only buy it once and it “keeps giving“. Yes once insulation is set then airtightness is the next hurdle.

Very useful info F, I wonder if the Energy use per person is global position as the colder countries use more? Likewise Co2 graph, inland countries have lower winter temps as not warmed by the jet stream/Atlantic 🤔

+1, I must get a clamp to see what it is drawing on standby, I guess that will tell me.

I guess so, I bought it on EBay as a punt, works very well but wondered if anyone else had found out about theirs?

I am struggling to find out if my Aeromax ASHP (carrier) has the type of compressor that needs heating to stop wear as I was planning to put it on a timer to benefit from PV during daylight hours, any pointers please 🙏
-
I think a lot depends on your neighbours, are they likely to complain?, I would plant a hedge with wire fencing in it to stop dogs or people pushing through before the hedge gets thick, keep watering and feeding it. Not an instant fix but cheaper than planning consultants and planning permissions. Monty Don (gardening guru) often says smaller plants/trees grow faster than large ones as they take longer to establish 🤷♂️.https://www.hedgesdirect.co.uk/?

MVHR Acoustic Distribution Boxes
joe90 replied to Johnny Jekyll's topic in Mechanical Ventilation with Heat Recovery (MVHR)
1/ yes 2/ I built it purely to accommodate the various pipes. 3/ MVHR came with adapters to fix the 125mm pipes to the ply, the 75mm was simply a tight and silicone . -
I need to find out if my compressor needs warming up or not as I plan to run it from a timer to take advantage of PV.

MVHR Acoustic Distribution Boxes
joe90 replied to Johnny Jekyll's topic in Mechanical Ventilation with Heat Recovery (MVHR)
Well I made mine and it works great, ply box lined with acoustic foam. I had heard that noise can be generated by the room terminals so I made my “throttling” within the distribution box and unless on boost completely quiet and only just able to hear it on boost. -
New to new build, keen to get going but talk about bad timing...
joe90 replied to DAMcN's topic in Introduce Yourself
I always thought buying a rough bungalow or such and demolishing it is a good idea, existing property, existing services and you still get to save the VAT.
