  1. Personally but not based on science I would say ventilation first, lots of logs stored in woodlands have a sheet of corrugated iron on top but open on all sides.
  2. Hi Jilly, I don’t think anyone is being sexist here, if @Adsibobpartner was also male the same would apply, yes a good scrub with sand may help 👍
  3. +1 (it’s what I did)
  4. Well I have full fill with rockwall batts and a brick face, the insulation has a BBA certificate fir full fill. The west face gets very wet and the bricks were saturated but when core drilling for the ASHP although the inner face of the outside bricks were wet it had not gone into the insulation. As a precaution I coated that wall with sealer and now the water runs of it like glass.
  5. I have a 600mm overhang on the back of my workshop for log drying/storage facing North and they mostly stay dry, if it was west facing then not a chance as I am near the Atlantic and rain can come horizontally at times, I do wish I had made it greater tho 🤷‍♂️
  6. I used number 2/ for my hep 2o stuff, not seen the others.
  7. Sack him. That’s awful. You sure he is a plumber?
  8. That’s an idea, overhead supply and a couple of jump leads 😵‍💫
  9. From my reading on the subject I believe the Achilles heal of solar thermal is the dumping of waste heat to avoid overheating, not a problem with PV.
  10. How So why not listen to what he requires? If he specifies an SE or expert to decide then so be it. With mine the BCO knew the area so knew what was required without consulting others.
  11. Don’t assume anything, let the BCO tell you what he wants.
  12. Yes, look up some pics or local houses and find something you like, that’s what really matters to start with.
  13. Have you looked at imprinted concrete? I have seen many drives done and they look really good even after years of use.
  14. Kitchen sink tap was my only 15mm hot! (Just in case)
  15. Just depends if you want it gone or not!!!
  16. Not necessarily, you could fit the timbers into the web. Saves having joist hangers.
  17. Dave beat me to it, not used jointing compound but it’s made fir the job I guess.
  18. I guess it depends on what the SE decides, large glulams can be beautiful (IMO). Not sure about being heavier than a steel 🤔. I put 8 of them in a loft conversion once and just the two of us, no sweat.
  19. +1, if you brush a weak sand cement mixture in when the gaps are wet but the face of the blocks are dry staining should not be an issue, it’s what I would do.
  20. Or a few lengths of 4x2 wedged underneath. And a couple of sheets of old OSB to protect 🤷‍♂️
  21. Which you can get an engine hoist on 😱
  22. Or a glulam 🤷‍♂️ (I like them, you can get nails and screws in them).
  23. As I would, get the SE to talk you through the figures. If I was younger I would not mind studying to be an SE.
