  1. Ps, how did the dog get up there.
  2. If you trim the rafters back will you not have to redo the whole roof? does your roof not extend down to the end of the rafters and run into the gutter? need a pic of the roof slates really i believe you used those funny slates that fit to an aluminium rail am I correct? If so can you remove the first row without compromising the rest fit you tilting fillet and dress your membrane down as it should, or fit a nice facia board and mini soffit that abuts your cladding. All a bit of a guess without seeing it clearly.
  3. Morning mr @zoothorn now how about this, every time you ask a question and I reply we can have a little bet that can be judged by the forum, so if you ask a question and I answer incorrectly I will lose, if I answer correctly then you lose. Why don’t we say £100 a question just to make it interesting for sombody who cannot look up the price of a sheet of insulation you seem very confident that I’m wrong, so should be an easy £100 for you. What ya reckon,
  4. Metal roofing sheets. 6 inch feather edge boards, lots of creosote.
  5. You will find that a concrete lintel is far cheaper than a steel one so it wasn’t put in for cheapness steel lintels are supposed to be propped in the centre as you build the brickwork above, when the brickwork above goes off this when full strength is achieved.
  6. Tighten the joints up, looks a bit heavy on the mortar.
  7. Double boarding will cost you double in labour.
  8. TBH looking at the pics you have some ceiling fixing to do where you have removed that wall, you may as well cut a 600mm square hole so you can reach in and do it properly, then board the hole and repair where that wall was. It may be easier to overboard the whole ceiling and reskim it.
  9. Hollow blocks with concrete fill ??? block on the flat ???
  10. You can get a connection that has an additional pipe to take away condensation it looks like a straight connector with a joint to take a hose to drain off condensation if you think condensation isn’t a problem then just a straight connector.
  11. Not sure I understand the problem cut a new hole for new vent fill in old hole. Its really that simple, the hardest thing will be having a long enough cable to power it. ?‍♂️
  12. Are they even legal to use nowadays under health and safety ? unless you have a team of dedicated brickies I think you will struggle to get anybody to want to work with them, I certainly wouldn’t lay them.
  13. Have you got a picture i bet you have a broken tile somewhere, the water is running down and pooling behind the facia area as there will be no anti sag method in place so water is dripping onto the top of the wall and getting in the cavity then it’s like others have said no weep holes to let water out so it runs to the inside and drips off the top of the window.
  14. I found most of the local mills only stocked English, and it was the specialty cladding companies that stocked overseas.
  15. What @Mr Punter would be the difference in labour? i cannot see a huge difference between 50mm boards and 70mm boards, just longer screws.
  16. Patrick, your neighbours are going to love you, i think after dropping a tree on them and now waking them up your going straight down when your time comes. ????
  17. Is there a reason you don’t like this window, surely natural light in a workshop is good. You will have major noise issues with the door, a window will not make it much worse, why not build some shutters that can be pulled closed when you do noisy stuff, I would also build shutters over the door to stop noise as well.
  18. Patrick, your neighbours are going to love you,
  19. @Big Jimbo why not find another piling company? all companies will charge you mobilisation plant costs mine was about £1200 i had 29 piles to 8m for £12,000 I asked 2 companies for quotes and both said that the ringbeam was a loss maker as they took to long and made more money from just the piles.
  20. Not trying to state the obvious but I take it you are going to fit this vertically.
  21. I do like a bloke who doesn’t mince his words. Straight to the point boom.
  22. Yes @ProDave you are 100% right its too early for my brain to be typing 0.14 is what it should be. ?? cheers.
  23. Hi @A_L I intend to go back to the guy who did my sap assessment and check a few things as I’m not sure if I have found the right documents. I think my roof buildup came out at 1.4 does that look about right, I’m not entirely happy with that and think it needs to be better what’s your thoughts. Cheers.
  24. The 70 mm is just down to the specific make I have found, most are 75mm i would like to go down to a 25mm batten but a lot of downlights need s deeper batten. It is like black magic I really hate all the bloody figures, I’m just trying to build a nice house. I might just say fook it and stick a woodburner in ??
  25. Can you explain to a numpty how I use those figures to turn it into something I can understand, will the extra 20mm save me £20 per year on my heating or £100. I wish I could just stick to hacking up bits of wood and nailing them together.
