  1. Mine is all green and dirty, when cleaned it comes up spotless like the day it was put up. it fits the style of my place well, it matches the roof well. without wanting to sound like a wa###r is there a reason you just don’t go with plastic. it will save you £1200 + is easy to maintain or change if needed. for a standard looking house I would just use plastic.
  2. Don’t seal it, leave it alone, the incorrect bricks have been used below dpc, nothing you can do about that, so you need to stop moisture building up against the wall. if you want a better fix you need to cut the path back by 100mm and fill the gap with free draining gravel. but that’s loads of agro unless your super keen and actually have a damp problem.
  3. 3 hours ago, Conor said: Most water companies won't allow sub metering, you'll need your own supply. i agree with this, normally if there was 5 barn conversions on a site you would see 5 new covers with 5 meters, in a new patch of tarmac outside the site.
  4. If when you dig your hole it fills with water, you then want to concrete it in.
  5. Have a look at the corten system can be diy, rsj in a hole with concrete and steel panels between them. very modern on their website.
  6. Narrowest would be concrete posts and gravel boards, it will look a bit puke though. rsj and railway sleepers will outlast you and come in at around 175mm wide. metal sheet piles, with a timber cladding added to the front sounds ideal very narrow, if the timber decays you can change it without disturbing the structural part, you could clad it in anything you wanted really. how about that rusty steel stuff with a coating on it. CORTEN.
  7. Would it fit what you want after you spend £120 grand on it ? that’s at least what you will spend on it.
  8. Vent your STP at the tank, run a vent pipe out from the tank and up behind a shed or behind some shrubs, there is no smell from mine whatsoever.
  9. There’s nothing there that a simple tree report would not cover, and a couple of pages of text highlighting what you intend doing. £1200 would see it done assuming your only talking about a building plot of an acre or less.
  10. What about control cables to the ASHP, are you happy running them in the same duct as the power.
  11. With your style of house I think anything other than plain stretcher bond would look a bit mixed up. flemish on a cottage style oak frame, but not on modern.
  12. Hi Steve I’m in Cirencester, have you thought about a knock down and replacement dwelling.
  13. So get the wife to pick the machine she likes, and sod splitting hairs over a pound hear and there. cheers all.
  14. Evening. wife is shopping for a new washing machine and I’ve noticed a couple come with hot and cold feeds. what’s anybody’s opinion on the hot feed models, is there a massive saving on not having to heat a cold water feed, but if it takes hot from our cylinder, then that has to be replaced, and washer running during the day with solar making electricity during the day. are we talking a couple of pennies saving rather than just a cold feed machine. confused as usual 🤯
  15. Knock it down then. ive done what you have described 4 times now, buy the worst house in the best road, I’ve then sold them as the most expensive house on that street at the time of selling. show us a pic.
  16. I would seed the paddock in a wildflower mix, far nicer than grass. I did a couple of hundred metres, last winter and now it looks excellent.
  17. I have a couple of free standing units, I got them all lined up and used a PU adhesive around each leg, nice ring around each foot.
  18. Open your own account and ask for the same rates as he is getting.
  19. What a load of bollox fit what you want, if bc questions it just point to the ring doorbell, if they get arsy then drill an aftermarket one in. but I would push back against this. are you in Beirut or somewhere.
  20. Yes. I can count on one hand the lads I’ve had here. Piling contractor. plasterer floor tiler electrician plumber nobody else planned until it’s finished. I reckon I’ve saved over 200 grand in labour
  21. Shouldn’t there be a cavity tray above the flat roof area, not on top of the steel any water penetrating the cavity wall will drip down and sit on the steels. very slim chance of water getting in here, but I thought that was standard when you change a cavity wall. I would insulate that cavity up to the height of the top of the warm roof.
  22. In that case you should follow manufacturer recommendations, all mine can be covered in soil.
  23. Just ensure the soil doesn’t contain large stones, backfill by hand and compact in layers of 150mm just with your feet, don’t use a wacker plate on top of the tank. wacker plate or substantial compaction around the surrounding area.
