  1. Tbh just two doors will cost a fair bit, as they will need to set up for your type of paint and then clean the gun after. Have you tried a good roller. I used an acrylic eggshell on my doors and got a good finish from a roller, light sanding between coats.
  2. Ok, you need to do some homework the reason is you need to sound like you know what your talking about, otherwise you will come across as a numpty and somebody will take you to the cleaners. Do this. Work out which way around you want the building look at the large door location and work out roughly where this will sit on the site bang 2 pegs in the ground to mark door bang 4 other pegs in the ground to mark 4 corners of building. Rough not accurate look at the height of the pegs at the door, draw a line on these at your ideal finished floor height. FFH. Tigh a bit of string to these pegs on the mark and walk to the lowest corner, lift string until it looks level ish, get somebody to look at string while you hold it up. Ok now you will have an idea how much fall you have from ffl at the door to the lowest bit, measure this and do a sketch, look at mine and fill in the blanks. Come back on here and tell us then we can come up with a cunning plan.
  3. @scottishjohn I wasn’t really thinking of using any off it, holiday let’s have electricity meters in them so I’m not bothered how much they use, I was thinking of making a few quid a day by selling it back. Oh well another mad idea bites the dust.
  4. I made plasterboard boxes to go over mine.
  5. I’m thinking I can get about 35 panels up there. How much is that. As Manuel would say ‘ I know nuffin’
  6. I wouldn’t pay too much attention to u values on things against payback, there are a few companies out there telling porkies about their numbers. We have just fitted triple glazed windows and the difference in price was about 3% compared with double glazed. The inside of the house is absolutely silent, you walk in and think you have gone deaf, the temperature difference is amazing as well and we are only half finished, it is something I definitely wouldn’t have wanted to lower the spec on.
  7. Anybody know what the score is with a business exporting excess energy. What im thinking is this ?? we have two holiday lets, if I have a big pv bank for these are there any incentives to install it, feed in tariffs or anything. I know the domestic market has dried up but what about business use. .??
  8. sort of like this, but spend more than 30 seconds on it like I did to get it working right with dimensions etc. If your happy doing that shuttering then carry on I think you have it sorted. Regarding the cold bridge, you can put external XPS insulation, stuck onto the blockwork, this is then covered in something to protect it. You then alter your cladding battens to stick out further than the XPS.
  9. Ooh that blows that idea. ???
  10. Can you chop the timber lintel out above and lift the door upwards to save on buying a new door ??? obviously more work but no door cost. Just an idea don’t shoot me.
  11. You can go anyway you like but must be aware that the lap joint in the scrim will cause a bulge so this needs to allow for water to run off. Most flat roofs don’t have adequate fall so putting a ridge in it will hinder it even more. On your roof I would think you would have 3-4 long strips running from the tiles down to the gutter. Originaly i I thought you meant the fibreglass matting you use for the GRP roofing which is completely a different product.
  12. Don’t think this will work on top of bitumen as said above if you are looking for cheap n cheerful, then fill the cracks with a bituminous repair mastic and a couple of coats of bitumen paint.
  13. You could, but I think in2-3-4 years time you will be sick of it and just fix it. Tbh that’s just my take on all warranties. Did they have a detail drawing showing the 30mm upstand that they should have spotted or do you think they should have spotted it on site.
  14. Depends what you want to spend short term, as Vijay said acyprol is good, and there are a few good single part coatings available now, some you roller on and when still wet lay a mesh into and then roller on another coat. I would allow 3-400 quid for a reasonable bodge that will get you 3-4 years of life. Then save up and get the lot ripped of and re boarded with insulation added if it’s a utility room. Obviously all depends on how long you want to stay there, you could bodge and run for £150 and it will look fairly tidy.
  15. How do you plan on forming the step in the slab, that is a really awkward detail to hold the shuttering in place. Have you considered doing an insulated raft? with your electric heating in the screed, how will you put this in as you are laying the screed, it normally goes on top of the screed under your floor finish. The cold bridge is the diagonal line from outside to inside from your concrete blocks through to the perimeter insulation, increasing the perimeter insulation upwards will not fix this it’s just a small improvement, having 100mm insulation in the floor and just a thin perimeter insulation is allowing heat transfer at that junction.
  16. I bet those telescope doors once installed and finished will cost north of £2000, anything that is not straight of the peg will cost large, and then the chippy will want extra as he’s never seen them before.
  17. All I would add is have a look at prices before you get set on an idea it all looks lovely on the screen but when you come to buy them you wish you had thought of another idea im finding the shiny pictures from an American website im working to are 1. Very expensive. 2. Above my skill set.
  18. Don’t worry I’ve seen them concreted over, better to find it than need it and cannot find it.
  19. There’s a thousand ways to skin a cat mate, if you think you will have time on pour day to set the wall plates then that’s fine.
  20. The wall plates on top won’t be an issue just set your studs into the wet concrete and add your wall plate when the concrete has set, no need to have them onsite until your trusses turn up. Just mark up truss location so you don’t have a bolt where you have a truss.
  21. Can you tell me why you put a link up that is in German. Good god man I struggle with English.
  22. @Taff, it doesn’t flood, you don’t just fill a tank from the house the house goes to the tank in the top at the top of the tank on the other side is an overflow that goes back to your sewer at the bottom of the tank is an outlet to a pump, supply electric to the pump and bingo all done. The downside is it’s cheaper to just turn on a tap. Until the water companies start charging properly, it’s just cheaper to use the mains. There have been a lot of topics on this on here, and unless it’s something you feel strongly about financially it doesn’t work out.
  23. @Roger440 near you I think mate.
