  1. Does that make my water considerably harder or softer than yours?? I've found the answer, your water is classed as very hard, mine is hard
  2. @PeterStarck Thanks for that, just checked my water hardness and this is what I got: Water hardness type: Hard Water hardness average: 84.6mg/l calcium which according to an online converter equates to 84.696638834ppm. Does that make my water considerably harder or softer than yours??
  3. @JSHarris, Thanks for the reply. Yes, I had realised that they are not a water softener in the "normal" terms. I believe the associated bumph actually tells you as much. I think it mentions the "dust" effect as well but states this can be wiped off. Tea tasting funny??, well I guess what it tastes like now is what I'm used to so a proper softener may make it taste funny to me Thanks for the link, I'll take a look at these. As stated I won't be needing one for quite a while yet (still waiting for warm weather to pour the slab) but it's always nice to have an idea of what to aim for.
  4. @swisscheese, this is a question that I would also have been asking eventually, so thank you. After having to dismantle our en-suite macerator (pee only use, thank heavens) the other week and finding the inside resembling part of the Great Barrier Reef I also looked into softeners and found these, https://www.amazon.co.uk/AquaHouse-Softener-Alternative-effective-Prevention/dp/B00JVZE5P6/ref=pd_sbs_328_2?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=QBASAFFDN78A1T35P87T which appealed to me because basically there is nothing to do other than re-new the filter approx every 3 years. Does anyone have any views on them as opposed to the "salt" type
  5. I suspect both the brickies and render chaps will want a scaffold supplied unless agreed otherwise in advance.
  6. I wouldn't go for that first one, have you seen the weight of it Specification Colour Chrome-Plated Finish Chrome-Plated Manufacturer Guarantee 1 Year Guarantee Pack Size 1 Pieces in Pack/Case 1 Product Diameter 40 mm Product Type Sprung Bath Waste Total Product Weight 670 kg Waste/Plug Type Sprung Waste Location Type Bath
  7. These are what my oh is requesting for the whole ground floor, and then probably bamboo upstairs. I'm still not too sure on the mix of looks.
  8. It's more than "possible" Just tell him that you will decide who the suppliers are for everything. It's your build and your money, end off.
  9. Could they be fitted in a garage and activate when the door opens??
  10. Yes, but Whatsapp only turns to 2 blue ticks if they open the message. They could see they have a message from you but still ignore it.
  11. @Nickfromwales Very much like the backlight to the bath. Is it easily accessible if/when it expires ??
  12. I appreciate that, but mixing from different packs is common practice in a number of trades.
  13. I'd be a bit concerned it the "tilers" didn't know that they should mix them. That is standard practice for any tile.
  14. I would say if you're already thinking along these lines that your heart isn't really in it. Pull out now and save yourself lots of grief.
  15. Just a quick update. I got all my conditions discharged and a full refund of £97.00. Result
  16. Well I served a 6 year apprenticeship and I've just retired, and I consider I was still learning !!

    Door seal

As @Ian says, or this https://www.ironmongerydirect.co.uk/product/stormguard-proline-inward-threshold-1000mm-inward-opening-doors-silver-292994?vat=1&shopping=true&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIpoX6yd782AIVaLvtCh2uhwieEAQYBCABEgIZyPD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds
  18. I appreciate where you're coming from on the telling him beforehand basis. But looking at it where you are now, if he isn't prepared to do what you request, then the solution is notch the back rail, as minimal as possible, and seal the raw edges using PVA or silicone.
  19. Why not just notch the back rail??
  20. It reads to me as though they have changed the wording believing that you may get PP but struggle with the ecological side, hence knock 5k off and be assured of the 16k.
  21. If the only reason for a 215mm inner leaf is because " The architect likes to build houses that are substantial in look and feel" then I would get rid of him sharpish
  22. I thought you were a Vailant man, have you jumped ship??
  23. My opinion, and that's all it is, is that once the services are under a beam and block floor they are then safe from any risk of being dug up inadvertently and so I can't see any reason to keep things so deep. Perhaps the water should remain at 750mm to negate the risk of freezing and keep your local water company happy. I have no doubt someone will come along in a minute and say completely the opposite
  24. @Temp Yes they received it.
  25. Thanks Ian, Form and claim sent so we'll see what s**t hits the fan now
