Yes that’s correct but what would happen If you had a leak and water was tracking down the membrane and then froze, unbeknown to you, then after it thaws that section of membrane would not be waterproof and would then let water in next time it rained. It’s a bloody nuisance as I got caught out twice by freezing water ruining my membrane on the roof.

This is very true and I used roofsheild and then it got wet and froze, completely destroyed the waterproof quality’s of the product.......

We are all so very different and we all have a very different skill bases, the battles you can win are most likely the ones I will loose ! -

Ok I have just dragged out an old flashing and it’s the same as yours ! So sorry I don’t get it either ! All I know is that I did not need to bend anything last time I installed them ! I will play around with the flashing I have and report back if I sort it out......

SAP calculation STROMA alternatives on MAC OS

I would be happy to pay people to do work if I could afford it ! I know that without my volunteers I would be at least 2 years behind from where I am now. I understand the principle and agree that as a society we are becoming pretty pathetic...... but there are just so many jobs and only so much time...... -
Have you got it right way up, could it be for the far side ? It’s hard to remember as I put mine in over a year ago but I do remember that there was the potential for mixing bits up... maybe it’s the top bit not the lower bit, I’m sure I had something similar, the flexible foam might help you with the correct placement I think.... as it’s designed to go one way. Sorry to be so vague but I do remember some small glitch and when I moved things round it became evident. I can go on my roof tomorrow if required and have a look, but don’t go bending it !

When I was in the Peak District I came across this amazing ruin, this was just the piggery the main house ruins were to the right. It’s not often i fall in love with a place but this really was something very special. No habitable building anywhere nearby, just completely deserted and remote. If I had wanted to live in this area I would have moved heaven and earth to see if it was possible to get it !

Yup.... it’s something I have to think about all the tine living on an island and hosting guests, i keep it as simple as possible as there will be no quick fix if something goes wrong.

Welcome and greetings from a fellow stonemason, I was also a leading expert in my field of the restoration and re building of heritage walking tracks in environmentally sensitive areas, 10 years in Scotland and 10 in Australia. It’s a great forum with some seriously knowledgable and more importantly helpful folk and I know your filling a gap in the knowledge base so it’s great to have you on board. Just a few pics of my type of work (tiny sample....) look forward to following your progress.

Well now you mention it...... there is a cave not far from where I live and has been used on and off by tinkers over the last 100 years, recently a new tinker took up residence. He has a canoe that he uses to get over to the mainland and returns with his supplies. You could walk past and completely miss his residence as he has kept it all very clean and tidy and used only natural materials as the outward shelter. The local community are very tolerant as he is a nice guy minding his own business and just getting on with his life. So yes it is possible but how earthy are you prepared to go ! I purchased my plot for £110k with three ramshackle buildings and have embarked on upgrading rather than rebuilding, something I regret in a panic but when it’s all done I think it will all ad to the charm of the place. There were very few trees and I want to live in a wood so I have planted over 3000 and still going.......been at it for six years and hope to have it all up and running and fully sustainably by year 10.

How to design a cheap 450mm square window.
Cpd replied to epsilonGreedy's topic in Windows & Glazing
‘Personally I think the glass brick is the way to go or as Russell says just buy a small window.... however at some point I had it in mind to build a garden room and got given about 10k worth of double glazing units for free..... they came brand new from one of the big window manufacturers, just wrong sizes or wrong orders etc and they handed them over for free to a friend who was going to make an aviary out of them but it never happened..... I feel like I could be heading in the same direction! But I will hang onto them in the hope that I get there one day. I also regularly turn down brand new units from local hardwares as I have so bloody many already ! So the moral of the story is if you want some random glass just go and ask and get them for free, they would have to pay to dump them. -
I need a bro like this ?

I assume they he is using treated timber so should be fine.

I had some calotex stored outside and was unaware that the chickens were eating it daily..... by the time I realised what was going on it was to late and six died, have now moved the insulation. Your drawn picture show the insulation as being set back and mesh may work, but the photo looks like it’s set forward and mesh would not work ! Which one is right ?

Looks like you did a good job, have you been inside with the door shut to check for any other obvious gaps ? Always good to use up off cuts so well done and as you say it’s on the inside of a shed so no bother.

Ct1 / silicon like a mad man round the cable and put a drip loop in for good measure.

Good to know and relevant to one of my ongoing projects,

+ 1 this is what I would do

I recently trimmed the little rubber stoppers that are under the seat so that the seat sits down more evenly on the pan, worked really well.

It’s looking fantastic, I also had a slightly delusional moment this fine evening..... but definitely not a light at the end if the tunnel moment....... more a “ it’s not that bad..... I am getting there !” Then I realised it was just a moment of weakness and got on with planting the last 100 trees of the 600 I just purchased. I have spent as much time... ok more time on my garden than my buildings..... my plan it that they should both come together at the same time, so let’s say another three years.

Having followed this from the start....... I can only hope that I will forget 86% of it by tomorrow but still cannot decide which 14% I should retain in my now befuddled head......
