OMG your right and I had already overlooked this...... shizzer ! I had everything laid out on the table and worked out the size of box to build.... you have just saved me an awful lot of pain. THANKS ! I will now have to go and relook at my preferred site and see if it will work.

Managed to rejig various bits to keep the inflow and overflow 32mm, past experience would indicate that the existing tank with 25mm inlet outlet has never suffered from overflow / surge problems so by upping to 32mm I should be fine. The spring is very stable and produces a very steady 8500 litres every 24 hrs, after a seven week drought this dropped to 5000 litres. Have now got all the filters and UV and have just dropped an order for pipe fitting. next job will be to build a wall mounted box that can house everything on the outside if the shed and then start digging in pipe........ by hand !

Good point I will investigate further, thanks

Nothing as easy as it seems..... trying to track down “25mm tank boss” but failing to find size specifications... back to it !
-
Yes 32mm throughout except joining the tanks......I was intending to use two 25mm tank boss and connect on the flat as shown on this photo, is this ok ? There is 8000 litres of water running through the tanks every 24 hrs at a minimum so I assumed that a small connection between the tanks would be ok. The reason for the small connections is due to space as the flats are only 50mm high on the big tank and 80mm high on the smaller tank. I will need to check the specification of the tank boss before I order to make sure it will work. I assumed that the inlets and connections should be as high up the tanks as one can get..... i am able (I think from my caving days) to actually climb into the tanks, so access is not a problem..... getting out may be more fun.

@PeterW The first smaller tank will be predominantly for settlement of very fine particles, this occurs after a drought and then very heavy rainfall, it’s really minimal but I want to try and save the filters as much as possible. The tanks will be connected at the top, I will have to raise the smaller of the two tanks 50mm as I assumed they were the same height but they were not....... this should be easy as I have prepared a very good base, really solid shale / clay base some pea gravel, geo textile and a bit of sand. I think I will just lay a bunch of 50mm slabs under the tank. The overflow will run into a small tank and from there I will tap it back into the old 25mm pipe work and use it for garden watering. the final overflow will go into my existing pond. There will be a purge tap on the smaller tank so that I can give it a good clean once a year to get rid of any sediment, i will try and design the inflow to be piped 3/4 of the way down with a diffusion plate to stop the incoming water disturbing the bottom of the tank. Have a look and see what you think of my plan, would be great to hear of any improvements that can be made. I will I’ll need to support some of the pipework on a wooden frame

@PeterW that’s a very nice combination, thanks for your help and @JSHarris for getting me on the right track. All the other bits are straight forward...... will report back when it all goes wrong ! Thanks.

Does this look right......

Thanks @JSHarris i see now why I was befuddled as I was looking for an adapter from 2 inch straight to 32mm...... so I think I have it but came up with this.......

I have got my two new water tanks, one 2500l and the other 1250l i also have my 32mm pipe, uv filter and particle filters i just need to order the pipe fittings and I will be ready to put it all together next week. i have been looking online https://www.pipestock.com/mdpe/mdpe-pipe-fittings/female-adaptor but am struggling to understand what part I am after to join the 2 inch male threaded tank outlet to my 32mm mdpe pipe. Can someone in the know help..... Thanks. Col

Really love seeing this thread, it’s out of my budget but this is something I would like to look into in a few years time. Look forward to following your progress.

Errr, not sure I follow, the blue cable is not shown on this last photo and where do they both start ? I’m not an electrician so I may have missed the point ?

Upstand for a velux rooflight on a 15 degree pitch roof
Cpd replied to Lots2learn's topic in Skylights & Roof Windows
Sorry no experience in low pitch installation but that definitely looks to high, hope someone can help with the detail needed. -
The blue cable is ( I think outdoor rated) the other one is not. If it’s a permanent fixture then it’s not legal I expect. But as pro Dave says better up in the air than two inches below ground.....

Same here, still have it but it’s in the big box marked “tools I never use....” there is some strange stuff in that box.

Engineering bricks with through frog holes, a bit daft?
Cpd replied to epsilonGreedy's topic in Brick & Block
I have been using 4:1:1 sand cement lime for years, but This is for repairing my old stone walls and it’s the mix I used in Australia for my walking track construction. It amazed me at how well this mix lasted when repairing or building with sandstone, it never cracked, was hard wearing - could be walked on by hundreds of thousands of people without visible wearing and could withstand extreme heat and temperatures below zero. I have been using this mix on my property for six years and so far it’s all 100% as a general DIY mix i think it’s great. I have never laid a brick in my life so can’t comment on this aspect but just wanted to pass on my experience. -
The overlap of the slates looks good. I prefer to lay them flatter (not just touching top and bottom) but not sure this is essential, you would need to check. ‘It looks like you have used galvanised nails....... I would ONLY use copper what membrane is it and is it being used in the right way, is it on Sarking ? Is it designed not to have cross battens ? ‘It does not look like the bottom row of slates has a continuous double row under it ? How are the gutters going to be fixed. some more photos would be helpful from the front and of the last row. personally it looks a bit dubious but without more detailed photos I can’t tell.

I have just picked up two water tanks, 3000 litre and 1500 litre.... I need to hand dig a flat standing into a hillside...... I expect i will need to move 20 tons+ before I have a stable base..... not looking forward to it... I hate that Santa only gave me socks for Christmas and not a mini digger......

I don’t know the regs but I expect you could justify using thermal block and then a slab of stone on top of that. Seems a shame to not have the underside / sub layer as well insulated as possible. Just finished rebuilding two fireplaces and went with 150mm pir, lining the walls of the old fire place and then 100-150mm of block in front of that, was a shame I did not have the time to rip up the old hearth and rebuild it with some added insulation..... next time.

Stand by.... I may have another solution, waiting to hear back from someone.

That would be good as I am reluctant to buy of an unknown eBay seller.... probably get green house glass ! I am not far, Oban being my closest postal town. I will double check the size, ring up and pay by card and then pass on the details to you ? I will pm you my address and I can send you two chickens as payment for postage ! If you don’t want the chickens then a sort code and account number should do the trick.... and a tour of my property next time your in the area. Let me know how this sounds and I will proceed if ok. Also there is no rush on this so pick up at your convenience as It’s not the season for burning wood ! Regards col

£58 quid but they won’t deliver as it’s pick up only........ will start web searching........ @Vijay Next stop eBay. At least I know it’s not glass and is in-fact ceramic.
