  1. I think they knocked that on the head a while ago.
  2. That looks sooooooo much better....... I'm going to say it.....BRILL
  3. Poc. To be fair it looks rubbish. But if it don't leak, then it don't leak. An air test would be best fella.
  4. I bet you won't get your concrete (Hope you do) Personally, if you do get the concrete, i would prob stop at that point. If you don't get your concrete then that's the stop point for now.
  5. Yep fella
  6. I know what you mean. The problem is.... Alarm. Nobody takes any notice. CCtv. Only really any use after the event, although might act as to put some people off. What about a large ex-military personal protection dog, or one from a company like K9. Please don't get a dog just because of the current situation. Be prepared for 10 years of ownership.
  7. Miss my daughters, and my 2 grandchildren.
  8. How the hell do they sell anything, with those delivery prices.
  9. Near the door end for me. Either that or diamond
  10. Finally got the sloping top bits of my cladding cut and fitted. Still got to stick the roof down, and do the skirt around the bottom, which I think I will do in black. Top half of my house will be clad the same, so pleased to have had the chance to practice on the posh shed
  11. Do people no longer get asked, "Does your front door lock comply with B.S. 7654321 " by insurance companies anymore ? P.S. Nice door geezer/.
  12. is it wood ? If it's bad, and you are worried, look up a local french polisher, £50 quid and they will make it vanish forever.
  13. That is normal on site. You get a couple of the firms lower pay grade staff (grunts) pulling all the wires, cutting in all the boxes etc. Then the higher pay grade comes to test and connect. The actual test is comprehensive, and takes a fair bit of time. It is a case of finding a spark that is happy to work with you, if you want to do some of the work, and save a few bob.
  14. It is a pain Russell. I am part P, and 16th edition (now at 18th) but i never joined any of the niceic's etc. I have explained in the past to the BCO who has been happy to accept a test and cert from an up to date sparks, (without confirming the install). But there are some who won't. They are, or were supposed to offer that service themselves, but i have never come accross a council who does. If you have a good read up, and try and get your head around what is required, You might be able to find a single one man band sparky who will be happy to work with you, and cert your work. If however, he gets a hint that you don't know what you are doing, he will refuse to cert at the end. I am lucky, i have a good guy that will cert my work, but they are hard to find. To be honest, i'm not sure that if i could cert, i would be happy to cert work i had not seen or done myself.
  15. Michael foot (Labour) once had a decorator i knew stick leaves from his garden onto the walls of his downstairs loo. No idea what he did with the coat though.
  16. My daughter lives in a semi detached cottage. She has had a problem with her ground floor lights tripping for a while. I ran an insulation test and got some nasty results. I took down her 6 lights, and ran tests on each section of the wireing. I found that the leg from the dining room to the bathroom was the problem, and i was able to pull a new leg through. The wire had been chewed by a mouse, through the outer, and inner insulation. She has concrete ground floor, with no gaps around the perimeter, and so i think they are coming through between any gaps at ceiling joist level from next door. I had to cut a hole in the ceiling to get the new wire through, and i did shout up the hole to any mice, that they should desist from chewing the wires. I have taped over the hole in the ceiling, ready for a new bit of plasterboard and skim, however, before i repair it shall i put some poison up there ? I would normally prefer to live trap, but just not pratical. If i do, and she ends up with a few dead mice in the ceiling void, will they stink the place out ?
  17. Welcome, great looking building. Enjoy the ride.

    We have a leak

Hope you find it with the Saturday test. Fingers crossed for you.
  19. Well although i'm dead posh. Born in Hampstead. I am entitled to an Irish Passport due to my ancestry. So you could have a good point.?
  20. Bit more done. Starting to look like a mobile home rather than a posh shed.
  21. No problem, and the doubled up joists should be bolted together at 600mm centres
  22. Good job for sorting it.?
  23. Rafters should be doubled up either side of the roof window. That looks a bit rubbish to me.
  24. i personally would not trust glued down insulation. i got to a site one morning to see loads of it all over the place. The cloth surface had been let behind...Mech fix for me, all day long.
