Wheelbarrows for Older People?
Construction Channel replied to Ferdinand's topic in Tools & Equipment
Would she be better with some kind of cart? Takes all the lifting out of it just need to drag it around. Only advantage of a wheelbarrow really is being able to tip. Or you could get a tipping cart ( not that I can see it being any good at tipping) e.g VonHaus 75L Garden Tipping Cart Dump Truck Wheelbarrow Trolley https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B01DKTQLH8/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_RsbOzb6FA1YHK -
We build houses out of fibolites (probably spelt wrong), half the weight of concretes, possibly made by plasmor, again probably spelt wrong. But if you asked for either at a BM they should know what you are after. Edit: I was close http://www.huwsgray.co.uk/bricks/plasmor-fibolite-100mm-solid-block-7-3n-high-strength.html

Can I utilise existing foundations & wall detail?
Construction Channel replied to Phil D's topic in Foundations
Woah there! those videos are for entertainment purposes only!! especially the underpinning ones. as stated in my infallible disclaimer but if you wanted to watch them purely for that reason.... here you go (this should start the playlist) christ that was a long time ago...... -
Small slate roof shopping list
Construction Channel replied to pudding's topic in Roofing, Tiling & Slating
I can't see any eaves protectors on your list. Unless you are planning to use a timber fillet in which case ignore that. Also I would agree that 25x50 would be a better choice for slate. 38mm batten is only really for tiles. -
Glossary of products
Construction Channel replied to Russell griffiths's topic in Building Materials
this was my issue with the idea as well, it has been brought up before and there were a few issues, 1, staying up to date with links (someone would have to maintain and check it) 2. different experiences from customers ( a bad reputation travels a lot faster than a good one no matter how good the product is) 3. product endorsement (as a community run forum we really don't need to be getting involved in that) but essentially it is a great idea, if for example, someone like @TheMitchells wanted to share their list of recommended products in a user started thread, firstly "we" as a body wouldn't be affiliated and secondly it may end up being very helpful in the search facility as long as people label/tag their posts well. but be warned this will end up in a very messy thread of comments -
depends on the flow rate of the tap. open it fully and my money is on A edit: this will also depend on the size of your screen

i asked this a while ago on ebuild http://www.ebuild.co.uk/topic/18654-what-sticks-to-polythene/page__hl__ sticks polythene are you hoping to stick the warning tape back together? if so i really wouldnt bother, just give it a massive lap or tie a knot in it, as long as the person digging sees something yellow i really wouldnt worry if they can read the print or not
-
ill just leave this next to it...
-
if your nuts take both hands to scratch i would consider getting that looked into.. but you can tie it off pretty quick, i think we used a "clove hitch" onto a short pole we had sticking out near the ladder, (dont quote me on the knot but im sure thats what we used to call it)
-
im a little confused? what is the safety concern? you have the pully at the top, pull the rope from the bottom, tie it off, climb the ladder and retrieve whatever it was that you pulled up..... only advice i would give is to tie a weight (old club hammer head) to the hook end so it comes down by itself and dont try to put your foot in a loop and pull yourself up, (your head will hit the floor) p.s it was very kind of your local chap to lend you his shiny new pully

weve had it pretty good if im honest. im just lazy.....

They are called the same down here, the opposite to a mansard where it would kink the other way. Makes me think i had better pull my finger out,.....

Very tidy, I bet you're glad that is over though. thats a monster of a roof

You only need to ask. If you have bought and read a "ready reckoner" you will know as much about straight forward roofing as I do. It may not give you the experience but the theory is all in there. as for getting over the rest of it that's why we started this place. Its clear from the rest of this thread that your builder is down the road. But I really wouldn't underestimate what is left to do before you can sub the rest out. You need to look into getting a "mate" asap. Even if they are just a fit labourer. Roofing is a Bastard by yourself. TBF anything is a lot harder on your own and although I don't want to admit it, it will wear you down quicker than you think. Both mentally and physically. Different people deal with the mental side differently and as long as you set reasonable milestones to celebrate you should be ok. But if you go and bugger your back lumping blocks/timber about and have to stay in bed for any amount of time then you will soon find out how strong you are mentally. If I can find any time to come up when you are about to start roofing I will try to take some time off. Faye won't be happy but I'll see if I can wangle it to involve some wedding food tasting.

Filling gap around door frame
Construction Channel replied to daiking's topic in Doors & Door Frames
the original way would have been to ram a load of newspaper in it and then plaster over, but foam is the modern way, depending how good the fixings are you might want to put some packers between the door and the lining to make sure the foam doesnt close up the gaps -
ahhh it was the white one that goes bad
-
Does it NEED to be CT1? There are a fair few alternatives about now that are a much more reasonable price. E.g fix all, sika bond
