  1. let's not be silly you two. I haven't finished making a solitary brick out of free clay yet, I doubt I'll get these made by the weekend.... but if I was going to press my own nails, yes I would try to put an E&F on the head
  2. they are on my list from last night and TBH are doing quite well,
  3. Howdy All, I spent last night comparing prices on a very slow internet connection which I did not enjoy, Instead of doing it all over again tonight I thought I would ask for suggestions first. especially considering I ordered my veluxes from a website suggested by @Barney12 that I had not found on my own. Where did you guys find the best for roofing accessories? to be precise I need -70 aluminium soakers for 10x20 slates -about 5000 30mm COPPER!! clouts (7-8 kgs) - 15m of dry ridge system for big old half round ridge - 35m ish of eave protector -16m ish of 150mm lead (i recon code 3 will be ok for step flashing but I had better ask first) and that's about it I think.. I just ordered the fascia and soffit from BP plastics because i like them, but they don't do everything and suggestions would be greatly appreciated Ed P.s if this should be in a different section just say and ill move it
  4. that's pretty much what everyone I have asked has said......... ill just bite the bullet, but they just cost so much more.... and you even get less per kilo so they get worse
  5. anyone got a strong opinion on this? Aluminium: -cheaper -supposedly weaker -corrosion resistant copper: - Just bloody expensive -what most people consider the nail for slates
  6. just guessed really, I went through a few slates and picked a thick, thin and medium slate, then measured them with an adjustable spanner because I couldn't find my calipers, then cut out the corresponding slots on the band saw
  7. You have missed nothing. After I made it I realised the big Slot was pointless. I'm useing it to grade the slates into 3 thicknesses. Thin ones go at the top. But assuming the slate didn't fit in the thin or medium slot then it goes in the thick pile anyway. ?
  8. Ignoring Faye's poor spelling it is great for its job. Sometimes you can tell at a glance but it's been nice to have just to check the borderline slates.
  9. Hi Jack and welcome how thick are the blocks? aerated blocks are notorious for giving a poor fixing, if you are using nailable plugs I would go as deep as possible, personally, i would consider using concrete screws although they will be slower and dearer, i would be more confident that it got a hold . HTH Ed
  10. You'll be fine. There is loads of info online about how to slate. And worst comes to worst you can always take them back off again. Funnyly enough I am grading my slates today Because the scaffolders have just postponed me until Monday. ? Grading slates is boring but at least it's not brickwork ?
  11. no just cut the excess foam off the tip and start again. TBH I only ever use the cleaner for getting it off myself.
  12. buy the gun! or even better get a box that comes with the gun and the cleaner. definitely buy the gun
  13. as above. the only advantage of drum lorries/barrel mixers is how fast they can empty, I have always been a bit skeptical of how they measure volumetric lorry amounts, but I very much doubt they are that far out.
  14. Turns out Ridgeons couldn't get anywhere near roofing outlets price, so i have ordered them online, should all be here by next Wednesday, the scaffold should be up a similar time, so I reckon I had better decide what I am actually going to use for soffit and fascia......
  15. I thought i was going quite fast, surely 20 bricks a day is somewhere near the average.............
  16. I'm not too sure I got caught jimmying the door, I was sitting in the living room by the time I was caught
  17. AFAIC cement comes in grey or white. Never found a need to worry about brand
  18. I should note I have got no rites to use this music so if the video starts to get adverts...............it wasn't me
  19. They do have some good prices, thanks for the tip
  20. You had better think of another project quick. Else people might start mentioning the bathroom.
