400 everywhere for me, well mine is actually 16" because of the OSB issue Mike mentioned earlier. -

wouldn't have said so, at least not that badly, It costs quite a lot to tip asbestos even when it is in their special red bags, also the carrying license isn't cheap,.....was it special paint? also, i will agree with Mr big potato, there really is nothing you can do about it now, worry about the things you can change, it's much more productive

How to Disguise a Tool Bag?
Construction Channel replied to Ferdinand's topic in General Self Build & DIY Discussion
I agree with barney. Sell the Makita one and buy a unbranded/cheap one with the money. -

you might as well stick a little lime in it, 2 bags will probably do the whole lot. or you could use this......... which looks more impressive -
Knee pads that don't slip....
Construction Channel replied to ToughButterCup's topic in General Self Build & DIY Discussion
I blame your trousers, even scruffs/ apache seem to hold them in the right place, strauss/ snickers definitely do. as above, dont use anything with straps unless you are kneeling all day -
Oh the irony: the annoying irony
Construction Channel replied to ToughButterCup's topic in Electrics - Kitchen & Bathroom
hope you only hit one core, get the tape out and cover it all back up quick. if you hit more than one core then technically I suppose you will need to somehow lose a junction box in the wall or get some crimp connectors (if that's still acceptable) probably best to wait for someone that actually know what they are doing -
Dry ridge extras.
Construction Channel replied to Construction Channel's topic in Roofing, Tiling & Slating
That may be incredibly useful. I’ll let you know if I find any separately before then. -
Quick question before I go and buy another whole pack. My ridge is 15m long so I bought 3 of these 6m packs. http://www.roofingsuppliesuk.co.uk/dry-ridge-hip/cromar-pro-ridge-hip-6m/ annoyingly the ridge I am useing are only 300mm long so I need 51 unions. In each pack there are 13 so I am 12 short. So the question is does anyone know where to buy the unions separately or have I just got to buy another pack? ( I have had a quick search but I am struggling ) any help would be appreciated Ed

Screed/concrete/dry/wet?
Construction Channel replied to curlewhouse's topic in General Self Build & DIY Discussion
Others might know better but i would have thought 100mm of dry screed should be fine. the only issue is it takes a long time to cure properly ( i have heard 2mm/day somewhere but i am happy to be corrected on that) What are you planning to put on top of it? if you are going for lino/karndine/vinyl i would say concrete it as a beginner you should be able to get a relatively decent finish easier and you will have to put some kind of self leveller on it anyway, if you are going for anything with an underlay i would say have a go at screeding, its not as easy as it looks to get it like a bowling green but it is much more controllable and a lot less messy. one of the hardest parts of screeding is getting the consistency of it right in the first place, after that you can mess about with it for pretty much as long as you like. -
is this ok for plasterboard
Construction Channel replied to lizzie's topic in Plastering & Rendering
WOW, I have seen some pretty bad boarding before but you are now winning, they have been watching youtube again havent they and usually you would do large areas in one go, it just involves more people skimming, but as above i wouldn't be overly sure about their skimming if that is how they leave their boarding -
I generally carry at least 5 pencils, gotta love howdens, free pencils and notepads I won't list what else I generally carry as it will only start arguments...

Put your name on everything! if it's got a name on it people generally won't nick it.

I assumed TOC was top of concrete. Even if if you haven't GOT to. You'll wish you had.

That's just ridiculous. Why put them all on there. Surely one would have been sufficient. Thanks for the answer though. And I suppose that answers Ian's question. The top of the rim joist should be 30.233 above sea level or whatever your datum is set at.

FFL usually does include the finishes, does kind of show it on the little set of lines mixed up in the numbers in the bottom right. TBH the bit you are going to worry about more is the head height in the bathroom so it might be an idea to work down from your top plate. do you know what the numbers next to WPH and FFH are referring to?

I have seen them a few places and they do look pretty cool, especially when they start to freeze, they usually terminate into some kind of gravel which I assume has the soil pipe below, the gravel is usually quite a bit bigger in diameter than the chain/pipe arrangement to accommodate the splash The cheapest option would probably to bury a bucket to act as a hopper and fill it with stone, then add some decorative stone as a top layer and possibly surround it with some kind of cappings, or possibly just bigger stones depending on the look. as for meeting regs, its only a tiny roof, i would assume as long as the water gets to the drain somehow they shouldn't care but worst comes to worst just swap it out for a downpipe until you get signed off
