Welding Aluminium, specifically
Construction Channel replied to MikeSharp01's topic in Tools & Equipment
Is your old welder dangerous? I rekon it is.... it would be safer if you had a nice new one. AND you need it to weld up your frames. Seems like a sensible idea to me. As for which model I'm afraid I can't help but if you need encouragement to buy tools, I'm your man ?- 14 replies

Thankyou. It'll be here tomorrow ? I think need is a bit of a strong word. Want , will use, will go well with my other hammer are about as much as I can justify ?

Can someone please tell me it is a good idea to buy this hammer. Just one person is all I need. I've been putting it off for days. Estwing E239mm Roofers Pick Hammer - Leather Grip https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0002JT0B4/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_EFvxzbPYVAEPJ Don't even think about suggesting I buy a cheaper model!! Because this one will match my everyday hammer

Steel lintel with granite heads
Construction Channel replied to DeeJunFan's topic in General Structural Issues
Iv been using the clay I dug up from Brick Kiln Field, which I'm fairly confident is where most of the bricks on the farm came from, I'm fairly sure I just haven't been working the clay enough, another major issue is I have started a lot of other things since then and the brick isn't holding anything else up so it might be a while before I have another crack at it... -

Kick-starting the week

-Give your self a pay rise. -Or a stern bollocking for how unproductive you are being. -is mrsRA about to give you a hand? It's always best to talk through what you need to achieve with someone (even animals are better than no one) it makes you feel clever and as if you really know what you are talking about. -set some little goals. And write them down so you can tick them off. If you do anything extra write those down too and tick them for the sake of it. or my favourite. Just stand and think about how disappointed the missus would be if you actually did nothing today. I'm sure she would tell you not to worry and that you did more than enough at the weekend. But deep down you know she is judging you. Self motivation is one of my worst attributes. But in both our cases if we don't get on with it, it's not going to get done. You could always do it tomorrow but that is a dangerous route to take. -
the only hammer you will ever need to buy is a 20oz straight clawed estwing, preferably with a leather bound handle. It will cost enough for you to never lose it, and are widely regarded as the best all round hammer you can buy. weight forward hammer............load of rubbish... "mutter" mutter"mutter" also you can get shot filled metal faced hammers, usually sold as metalwork hammers https://www.amazon.co.uk/d/Hammers-Mallets/Armstrong-ARM68-516-Cast-Dead-Hammer/B000I1ROCS/ref=sr_1_1?s=diy&ie=UTF8&qid=1498989654&sr=1-1&keywords=dead+blow+pein+hammer

18v router. How did they do it?
Construction Channel replied to Construction Channel's topic in Tools & Equipment
That is a hell of a "rack" they are cooking on there -
I do have the power to make that post disappear.....but yes the gap is still there. I have had 2 attempts so far at throwing the brick and both have cracked. yes I could try again. And realistically it would take me 20 mins to actually work some more clay and throw it in the mould. But I am a busy "ish" man. I've got newer and much more interesting things to half finish before I get back to that.

Unfortunately I can't find the video I wanted but it seems a lot of people have made them. Is it really as simple as just connecting the 240v L and N to the corresponding battery ports? I want one!!

I think you all need to stop being so silly and have a serious think about what you are trying to achieve. what do we actually want from the cheese? i am assuming we want it to be able to absorb heat fairly quickly and stay molten for a reasonable amount of time. does the fact it is "molten" help? first thought would be camembert or mozzarella, which leads me to think that it is usually the tomato sauce that burns my mouth on a pizza, are tomatoes cheaper than cows? /kg of product? I would prefer to eat the cheese afterwards....... Sounds very much like a culinary generator to me.

site cctv camera
Construction Channel replied to lizzie's topic in Networks, AV, Security & Automation
my question would be what do you want from your CCTV? do you want to use it for potential evidence if the unthinkable did happen? or do you just want to be able to check on the site whenever you want? I only ask because it will make on a differnece on the price, placment and quality of the cameras you buy. there have been quite a few threads about this so probably best to put "CCTV" in the search box and have a read. If you just want to be able to check on the site there are some fairly cheap, reasonable quality packages you can get that work on a mobile phone signal, if you want it for evidence you might be looking at a different price bracket
