Hello Matt, welcome. We have a closed panel timber frame I joist build from PYC in Welshpool. 300mm warmcell.They are not far from you. I had quotes from MBC & Touchwood and a couple of others. I think PYC were able to be more competitive because they are the UK distributors for Warmcell. They were not the cheapest quote we had but I was happy with what we were getting for the money.

I had IOLs ten years ago as well, but I still can't focus at 15cm unaided. Even at 0.1" pitch, these made doing fine solder work just so much easier. And to NickfW's point there is 4 different strengths plus compounds.

Right... Here is where a lot of your issues are : The red circle shows two things. Firstly that the hanger is not connected at the base or the face so its free to twist when any load is put on the bottom. The blue circle shows that the hanger and the posijoist are incorrectly fitted. The hanger should either fit the full face of the trimmer, or have a tab under the trimmer and "legs" wrapped over the top. It also looks like the hanger is missing a few nails. Any weight on that joist is going to twist the trimmer out of line and allow it to bounce. Looking at it in detail you could potentially get a block down the side of FT02 and FG01 from your layout that would brace the trimmer against the wall and stop it twisting although that wouldn't sort that trimmer issue. I would be asking the builder what was supplied - and also checking if that came from the manufacturer as B01 definitely looks wrong !

going by the wolf site an opening is specced as below ok it's a stair opening, but it's still an opening and the trimmer is a good bit bigger

But have you got some of these. Absolutely essential for old farts when soldering!

from my research, there are plenty of the NI based companies that are installing frame kits into the mainland UK here's a few to try, I've had discussions with most of them re. our project and their open panel kits were ALL cheaper than MBC like-for-like. Kilbroney Leadon Kudos McCavana QTF Unique TTFC They've all got slightly different offerings, from bare installed frame kits, through felting and battening/ supply of insulation/airtightness/PB/ windows/ MVHR, and or fitting of all the above too. None however offer a direct slab or passive slab option.

We used Buildakit, company based in Nelson, Lancashire.

I can think of Beattie Passive and Touchwood for a start, we had discussions with both, and I am sure at least one person on her has used Touchwood.

@Barney12 our roofer used Soudall Fixall on our roof where he couldn't nail and clip the tiles. The roof has been rock solid through all the gales /worst of the North Atlantic weather which we are directly in the path of.

Well I have bought a few quids worth of WEMOS D1 mini V3.0.0 from AliExpress, so shall wait until they turn up and see what can be done with them. Will be nice to have just one RPi storing all the data rather than several (cause it makes it neater). Have to work out a way to make a decent battery pack.

That stud wall reminded me of something I saw in a furniture shop recently...not for sale was part of the shopfittings but cheap and easy to do and I thought very stylish as a display wall/bookcase.

In my previous house the entire place was decorated in F&B. Its not only the chalkiness its the depth of pigment and how the colours change in the light you are paying for. The copies cannot match it in any way, at one point I tried the copies in Johnstone and Dulux no-one who knows would mistake it for true F&B. Decorators universally hate it because it needs more care and coats to get an even finish. In my new house I am going for Dulux Trade Ulramatt tinted to my preferred shade....not a F&B copy colour. Having had F&B in all its glory I said never again. It is a nightmare to keep looking perfect and I am a perfectionist so every little mark drove me nuts and cost me fortunes in redecoration. We are a 2 adult household no kids so didnt have any real wear and tear but still every little mark shows. If you want F&B in a wipeable finish go for the modern emulsion not the flat estate emulsion. It was not for me its the hint of shine in the modern I dislike I want the flattest flat matt. One F&B product I would and will use in preference to main stream paints is their eggshell for wood. Its brilliant. Nice alternative to F&B if you want to pay the premium for designer paint that is a bit more robust is Little Green. I love Craig and Rose paint but its even more difficult than F&B to keep perfect. This thread just shows what an amazing place this forum is and I love the "yeah I'll give it a go" mentality!!

I re roofed my cottage with second hand slate, i got all additional slate for a few hundred pounds but had to sort through each and every one, get rid of anything that was de laminating, showing any signs of rot or where the iron pyritise was rusting. It was a slow job but i wanted a very particular style. After sorting them myself and various helpers re cut every slate to sharpen the edges and straighten them out, also punching the nail holes where needed. The recutting process also provided a secondry chance to verify each slate was in top condition. Then it was a matter of grading length, width and thickness..... the easy part was laying them. Its a long haul project as very low on funds and will take me a few more years to finish the refurbishment.the slate knife is a must for cutting slates and punching holes. In retrospect i should have put the air vents on the back but hay ho.
