Wife and daughter have been out sofa shopping today. Bit premature I thought. Amongst other things, I still need to do the Bath surround/Boxing in, and we all know how long that takes. ? 1

The brochure. invoice, plan and delivery notes all have different codes. All the bathrooms have been chosen including a bath covered in copper I have left it all to her other than a check to see if i can actually fit it. Roof is 25mm cavity, walls 48mm. theses are left clear its the internal studs and the floor void i have filled with rock wool. Its a real pain but helps stop a lot of the echo and resonance in the house. We went with cellulose blown insulation Any particular spec for the Rockwool? I've got 304mm posi joist so that woullkd be a lot of Rockwool, and it may be beneficial to get some heat transfer to the 1st floor?

You only need 75-100mm of dense rockwool between floors to reduce sound transfer. More than that will act as a very good heat insulator ..! Remember that if you fill too much of the void you've got to consider downlighters getting covered (not an impossible issue but will increase your cost of fitting and choices). I'm really impressed with the sound deadening effects of even just 50mm. I strapped mine tight to the floor above using packing strap and a stapler. The lump you can see in the picture is where it covers the radial duct for the MHRV. Oh..... and its the worse job in the world ever!
Ferdinand
If you don't have downlighters your charge-by-points lecky will cost you less and you can put more insulation in the gap.

dogman
Another quick update At long last we have finished the plastering. It has come up well and my decorator (wife) is getting on with the painting. For those interested we used 270 sheets of plasterboard with very little waste to go to the tip ( so far two trips at £6 a time) Kitchen cabinets are all installed. The island granite is on order and we are looking at oak for the rest. One big improvement is the Oak porch and balcony. MBC provided these as an extra. Well I am impressed with the outcome and there was not a nail gun insight. Most of the wood came to site as long lengths and the team got to work with a chain mortice and hand chisels all the joints were dowelled The attention to detail was second to none. MBC did say that they are doing a lot of oak inside so if you are after oak trusses etc they will use them with the timber frame system
dogman
Staircase has arrived and I have now fitted it. We used TKstairs and have been very pleased with the outcome We opted for oak with embedded glass and had it part assembled Although it was heavy the wife and i managed it without help. Glass will be fitted once treated. Everything fitted and they even send precut oak plugs to cover the dowels Edited March 4, 2018 by dogman

My main stair came from them semi-assembled and it was spot on. Also just ordered a smaller 3 step staircase for the split level and that's arrived today. It s a flat pack this time (cheaper postage) and even came with a bottle of PVA glue!

The software to design them worked unlike some. The sales team are really helpful. I did ring them a few times to ask silly questions such as where does this bit go and they could not have been more helpful
