  1. Thats the point that I would genuinely consider emigrating.
  2. That rather assumes the Lib Dems have any seats! They only have 8 now.
  3. In fairness to BPC I don't think its them. Mine happened to arrive on a pallet today direct from Airflow. On the Airflow delivery note it clearly describes them as Plenum's.
  4. We've got a wet room downstairs. Our floor slab is concrete but what the guys did was make a former out of EPS, pour the concrete and then push the eps into the concrete and weighted it down with a few concrete blocks. Then finished round it. The plan is to then just chip/dig out the EPS, leaving the required recess for the shower former, We also have a boxed former. (Made from OSB) which creates the required space and depth for the waste.
  5. I've no idea if they sell to single builders but have you tried Jablite? http://jablite.co.uk/ They are the UK's largest manufacturer of EPS. They also own Styropack but I think making your foundation out of fish and chip boxes might be a bit labour intensive
  6. Ditto that. I went to look at a MBC build in Gloucester which swayed me to making a final decision. Especially as they weren't the cheapest quote (but neither were they the most expensive) for our passive specification build. I certaintly cant knock their work ethic. The weather is appalling today, gale force winds and torrential rain showers but they're still cracking on.
  7. I can only comment on No.1 as a collogue had a house frame from them. His review was that they were "efficient but inflexible" in other words once you've placed your order, you are in the system to be assimilated. He also went for the joinery package and to be quite honest I thought it was very average but that might have just been the low end specification he chose. One name not mentioned in your list is MBC Timber Frame who a good few on this forum have used. My frame is going up as we speak in Devon.

    Radiator Paint

The Rustins or International radiator paints are fit for purpose. If you can spray them they will look 100 times better. If they are simple flat panel ones then its not hard to do. Satin is more forgiving than gloss.
  9. With mine it's more the look than the noise. It could freeze molten glass! Im often saying "don't look at me in that tone of voice"!!
  10. I've just checked my order (yet to be delivered) and it includes one of these: https://www.bpcventilation.com/attenuator-silencer I didn't specify it so assume they must now specify as required?
  11. These guys were quite a bit cheaper than Sirlingbuildor me but it seems to vary by model and size! They were who I got Jewsons to price match: https://www.roofingoutlet.co.uk/
  12. Exactly the same for me. I found the cheapest online quote for triple glazed Velux and flashings. Then asked Jewson to price match and they got within £30 which wa good enough for me knowing that returns/issues would be simpler.
  13. Our 3 bed two story house cost us circa £6k. That was with the hire of a concrete crusher for 5 days. We've already used a great deal of the hardcore. We recouped about £400 in scrap (copper etc) and all the wood went for free via Gumtree. The uPVC windows and plasterboard went in a couple of skips.
  14. I swear to god you must be married to an angel! My gonads would be in that acid bath (after having had them surgically removed by those stillsons) if I took that long over a DIY job.
  15. Another point to consider is how often in this country do you have your roof lights wide open? We have 5 centre pivot velux windows where we are at the moment and 99% the time they are opened say 6" to allow for ventilation. That much opening isn't even likely to take the top past the plasterboard level inside.
  16. Sorry, I've had several pints of Jail Ale so apologies if I've missed something but..... when did the bathroom get finished?
  17. Yep! I couldn't believe it either until Nick posted this video:
  18. Weve added the GSHP fed heat/cooling battery to our MHRV. Its yet to be commissioned so I can't comment on its operation but on paper it should achieve the same effect as Jeremy has detailed. Airflow are clear to point out that it's suplimentary cooling not air conditioning. Obviously burying 100m of pipe 1.2m deep is probably not an option for you now! But if your cold water supply is cool enough you might be able to achieve something similar with a simple heat exchanger? I too was told by a HVAC engineer (the guy we use at work) that if we cooled the air intake we would need to upgrade all our duct runs to insulated duct to prevent condensation dripping into the rooms. After conversation with BPC (and Airflow) they confirmed that only the air intake to the MHRV unit needed to be insulated and also needed to be at least 1m from the intake to the unit.
  19. No they sell your house to pay for the care fees
  20. I'm sure the neighbours would move a few cars, people are generally very reasonable. Count yourself lucky I'm having to pull off a diplomacy miricle that frankly Kofi Annan would be proud of! Try explaining to builders that they have to take "1 hour quiet breaks" so a rescue horse in an adjoining paddock can "de-stress". I kid you not!!
  21. +1 on the Aqualisa digital showers. They are expensive but a nice piece of luxury for a shower. We have them in the place we're in at the moment. Push the remote switch, wait for the light to tell you that your shower is at your preset temp and climb in. These are the ones we have (albeit ours are geting on for 12 years old now!): http://www.aqualisa.co.uk/showers/shower-ranges/aqualisa-quartz™-smart-mixer Take a deep breath though I didn't say they were cheap!
  22. There is another reason; MMC or Modern Methods of Construction. The drive to increase build speed and decrease costs by the big developers means that the supply chain have come up with a plethora of build elements that need very little skill to install/fit.
  23. No. You are misreading the diagram. It means don't lift more than 10kg with your foot
