  1. Yes, I’m also a fan of cheap and cheerful fan heaters and keep a few in the garage for emergencies, used them initially when doing the house up when it had no heating to start with.dragged out a few times when gas main was replaced and no gas supply for the day and guys in and out the front door all day. very useful.

I meant did you plug in a fan heater or something to dry it out?

Not sure how anyone can tell you this? the competency of the plasterer is in question so doesn’t look good from a longevity point of view but equally some sand paper might sort it? Did you dry it with heaters to speed the drying process up? does it sound hollow when you tap it?
  4. £50 a week to heat what? floor area? heating only? Hot water too? internal temp set point? location in the uk? house construction? UFH/Rads? air tightness? insulation levels? large family/working from home?
  5. When was the new build house completed? people say new build but can be years old just to understand if defect period is still. In place.
  6. Yes, fine to use as a back up, on a manual control just make sure the thermostat in the top is set to the same as the bottom, so the water temp is the same.
  7. Same part of the tank. It’s a wise move to have it connected up, allows a back up as you have just experienced. don’t know why it wasn’t connected up, was it in the quote?
  8. You should have a second immersion at the top behind that green access panel. don’t know if you are competent to wire this up ?
  9. Zoothorn Technical Services, is in Wales somewhere only kidding. Just checking in case it saves a fallout. All MCBs/rcbos are in the on position? rotary isolator on?
  10. I have a 40mm ( I think) Mira tray that comes with an anti slip coating. it’s only 1200x800 it’s for the downstair shower right room. Could you could build up the surrounding floor to meet a tray height, I wonder if you could loose 18/22 off the existing flooring by fitting the tray on top of the joists not sure if you could ply inbetween the existing joists to strengthen the floor and sit tray on plywood infill and tops of joists??
  11. Yes right hand side drawing. Hope it all goes well
  12. Option 2 privacy if someone is on the pan ( and still able to go themselves) waste pipe was on this side anyway so will make tying into 4” easier, no point in making unnecessary grief. also gives you a bit of distance to get a fall from the shower waste to the 4” these were all considerations when we did my folks house, old people can’t take upheaval so make it easy on yourself.
  13. Pretty much a given now for short term holiday rental Centre parcs have stoves and GCH. Crieff Hydro lodges, stoves and supply logs, along with GCH or electric heating depending on lodge
  14. I think the DNO allow about 2 or 3kW per property. so seems logical, not everyone is applying significant load to the same transformer, it’s sitting in free air, getting cooled.
  15. Maybe the one that’s says you have to comply with the manufacturers instructions. agree they look horrible so hide them away in a cupboard.
  16. Fit a fused unstitched spur next to the basin, hard wire the hairdryer in, switch out side. rcbo the circuit( they do fail ) and increase the insurance policy
  17. Can’t remember what the regs are , 3m from the edge of a bath/shower?
  18. Exporting the earths is really only a consideration for the EV charger, depending on type of charger some require a local earth rod, some have fancy electronics to allow for dc leakage. yoinneed to watch for type a RCD for EV which not all manufacturers do, and you can’t just fit anybody else’s RCD into anyone else’s enclosure- not type tested for it.
  19. Watch out if you have ring final circuits you couldn’t use a switch to isolate it, you would. Need to use a contractor. easy for radials Think it’s a bit over kill myself but have fun
  20. Do you have a second immersion in the 400 litre tank, one controlled by the ASHP but possibly another?
  21. Agree with others, if they aren’t installing as per your design, tell them to remove and replace or just replace them and deduct monies off their invoice to reflect the incompetence and for plumber 2 to take over. these are the things that will annoy you later. same with the spark installing 16 mm instead of 25mm
  22. 1000 what for a shower? watts? That’s a rubbish shower! 1000amps? A bit excessive? form doesn’t make sense as you have 2 sources of heat pumps too unless you are doing one for DHW and heating separately?
  23. If you don’t have any 3 phase equipment why run 3 phase to the house? can you not live with charging the cars in the garage where the 3 phase lives anyway? Happy paying for 3 phase chargers? the duct may be under the ground and eps but has to come up through the concrete and cable pass out of duct at either end. need an RCD if it’s not swa. no RCD if swa. fitting a 3 phase RCD into a panel board will be expensive unless it’s going to be silly separate enclosures for each RCD? 29mm diameter cable through a duct is easy. the electrician will be signing this off, so it’s his design, best see if they can come up with something as they have seen the building.
  24. Electric car? electric shower? elective Oven? ashp? all add up
  25. The armour is the earth. needs to be armoured unless you are Protecting by RCD. do you have a schematic/ sketch of what’s in, going in? can I ask why you are installing 3 phase when the photos of page 1 show single phase?
