Turn RCD on first then each mcb one at a time. does that change anything? -
Planned ASHP 1930s semi retrofit - experiences please?
TonyT replied to Greenbot's topic in Air Source Heat Pumps (ASHP)
I’m on mains gas and will stay on it, as I upgrade my 1860 house, thermal improvements year on year as rooms are redecorated. hopefully 10-15 years when boiler needs replacing will be able to run off ASHP. Doing some work in the garden this summer and plan for some underground ducts to be installed to make the install easier when it happens... ps thanks for the link above, some good reading! -
I do agree with Nick above, just saying we have one, stuck with it, so just need to get on with it. Spare carried to minimise down time
-
It’s ok it turns over a few million

I have one, in a shop that we maintain, it was fitted before we rented it, no way to get a gravity connection. used by 7-8 staff, burnt 2 out in 10 years, we just keep a spare in stock so we can swap out quickly. so although not ideal, they work.

Maybe a data cable too, when you run the swa.

Meter Readings Panic and Electricity Costs

Did you find out if there was a second immersion? -
The plumber will no doubt say it’s fine, as he is being paid by the builder so will be on his next job too. You will be stitched up. the plumber won’t have showers going, washing machine running garden taps etc he will say it’s fine, or as others have said allow for future proofing for anything such as sprinklers. The reason the designers in the utility company specify things is so builders don’t just buy the cheapest product at the merchants

I thought of the led panel as it wouldn’t need planning etc.
-
https://www.lights.co.uk/lindby-quais-led-panel-4-000k-60-x-60-cm.html what about one of these fitted to the ceiling, then an architrave fitted around it to give the impression of a velux with a window film fitted to it?
-
The underground join is a potential point of failure too
-
The connection may be refused as it’s not to specification. im a firm believer in installing as specified. I will make recommendations prior to install date, if they aren’t incorporated, I have tried to assist, when they change their mind later, it’s a day work
-
Just tape it to the metal frame with double sided tape
-
Just run 1 cable from each device back to a central joint box that will let you configure and alter set up easily without taking devices off walls etc.
-
They don’t work off 54 volt batteries?
-
Personally 1 would go with 400mm centres just makes for a solid wall. i looked at the MVL. Some cost effective on Amazon it but then decided just to make an 8” thick partition from the existing wall. Fixing Chanell can be fine, but I prefer to add 18mm to all walls where TVs, radiators, hand rails, etc are all fitted, just makes fitting onto a finished wall all that easier. 32mm flexible conduit is handy for taking hdmi cables from the back of TV to source location.
-
It would be easier to use alarm wire, it’s stranded takes 1amp per core up to 50 volt, multiple cores etc less prone to break like bell wire.
-
Mass loaded vinyl seems like a cheap option at adding density. the independent wall not touching the original would be good, fit18mm plywood where the tv will go and then plasterboard over that will support tv no probs good luck
-
Yes he will tape and plaster over.

Maybe a combination of a storage heater or 2 in hallway for shoulder season heating to take advantage of the agile tariff, coupled with immersion heaters heating water. some PV would be handy , maybe the other half’s dad knows a sparky to fit some PV? -
How do you fancy this new house
TonyT replied to recoveringbuilder's topic in Bricklaying, Blockwork & Mortar
That’s probably the show house, where they spend extra time and attention building it? -
Any ideas on how to sort this mess out
TonyT replied to Jcorn's topic in Bricklaying, Blockwork & Mortar
I would build a fence totally independent of it, not touch it, fix to it otherwise they will blame you for any future water damage -
Meter the end user, they will start to watch their water consumption!!

They can sell any old boiler to the plumber that buys the heating pack and throws them in with little thought. No point in having a heat pump sitting on a shelf, doesn’t mean they can’t buy in for you just like any other non standard item
