  1. I think the best idea now after small tweaks have been made is to fit some electricity meters to the immersion, ASHP these can be purchased for under £20. this will let you know how how much each device is consuming and you can take this off your whole house meter to get a cost of what the rest of the house consumes..
  2. For all the reasons above, and we aren’t living in the 70’s anymore.
  3. Bin it, too many reasons for me to type on my phone….
  4. I would go for the 50/50 mix and not worry about heave the sand will help drainage I’ve been patching grass with this mix for the past 4 weeks..
  5. I started to use an air fryer for other things.. instead of the fan oven turned on for 10 minutes to reach temp to cook fish fingers for the kids then another 15 minutes , 10 mins in the air fryer no heat up time…
  6. What’s the design of the UFH say? is the builder installing the heating system too? if so good, if not best talk to the plumber as each layer acts as an insulator
  7. Use it to switch a contactor
  8. What about a mushroom vent from the loft space to outside and let the heat out that way. Some states in the USA have extract fans in the loft to vent this space to outside. I have a velux in the loft of the original house (1860’s build) that I open up in the evening and let heat out. In my office I have skylights that open to dump excess heat should the BMS computer deem it necessary. all working along the same theme….
  9. what about a wifi spur? https://www.timeguard.com/products/time/immersion-and-general-purpose-timeswitches/wi-fi-controlled-fused-spur
  10. I would do it at the same time but make sure that the scaffolder knows this so suitable space can be left much easier/quicker/safer for all parties working off scaffold. allow for some rotten wood so be prepared with some timber preservative, and or a rate for replacing timbers. Unforeseen extras can soon bump the cost up. good luck
  11. Can’t you over sheet the wall. I have a 140mm thick stud wall with celotex type insulation inside the stud bays and then over laid 50mm on top, service gap/battens/plasterboard.

  17. Lowering direct debit is easier said than done, Shell want to put me up to £480 per month. currently £290 per month. can’t talk to anyone. can’t email them. check the account every other day, to make sure they don’t increase without my permission..
  18. I rented a council lock up for 1 year to clear my existing garage to allow it to be used for deliveries, working space if raining etc. cost approx £42 a month, no space for anything else so worked out for me..
  19. Lots of painting companies do Ames taping. as your painter will complain that the taping and filling is crap and then charge you an extra day or two for remedial works prior to painting….. plaster for me.
  20. I can only imagine that you would loose your FIT payments. These organisations don’t like change.. to get them back, I bet it will be a lot of hassle.
  21. I can fully understand that. it would annoy me every time i saw the pool of water
  22. You have to realise they don’t care, majority of trades just want to get it done and beat the traffic home. the ones that do care are a minority, probably price for the extra time and materials and loose out a lot of the time. even worse now with mobile phones..
  23. Get an electrician they may have more experience in this…. decide what type of fan you want, simple on off, controlled by light the same as light switch, independent switch, humidity? best you decide or you will get what’s lying at the counter in the sale pile at the merchants
  24. They probably get away with it 99% of the time as most customers wouldn’t do the research… maybe they would if it was important like a tv or something😀
  25. 60m2 extension £900 included two sites visits after trial holes were dug also included drainage design. NE Fife front of extension was 2.4 m concrete deep
