Check on Reading Commercial Gas Meter

IR is better for big open spaces- heats you, not the air. -
The Build - Mission accomplished! We're in!!

Lovely. Many congratulations. Gives me something more to aspire to... -
I might've asked this before but what *is* the "breakdown" temp, where the goo starts to cook? Surely a hard limit on the immersion element temperature would be all that is required to safeguard it. We see similar strategies in Autoclaves for redundant boil dry and overheat protection; some have a capillary stat clamped onto the element, others ( in an external boiler) have a PT100 in contact with the element, going to a spare way on the microcontroller.
-
What about the "high temp" units http://www.earthsaveproducts.com/product/high-temp-12kw-air-source-heat-pump/ I believe some are just r134a filled, but there are others that are dual compressor/ stage?
-
the rubber end bit normally has a bit of a cuff on the inside. Sure your barbed fitting won't push on down into this?
-
Since when was 21c cold?
-
I dont't know about that. Pulling a hose up the stairs and pouring to datums seems pretty easy.
-
Pozis are 254x 75/90 at 400ctrs with a max span of 5040. I'll ask, but I doubt there's a standard detail for it as screed thickness will vary between brands and no doubt ther's a number of ways to build and hang a staircase anyway?
-
Must admit I hadn't, Dave. Why do you think matching it to the stair would be so much easier? There's still a structural floor and a finished floor either way.
-
@ProDave because of the extra solidity it brings to the house underfoot and in terms of noise transmission and also because we want wet UFH in some rooms. It does give a great feel. Posijoists and ceiling heights have been calculated for it... @the_r_sole the supplier prefers at least 25mm over pipes so 45-50mm. It certainly seems to be a thing over here as some of our TF quotes included the load calculation without our requesting it.
-
So we've currently got posijoists and Caberdek and I'd like to have the upstairs prepped to pour the screed sooner rather than later. What trimming is normally done to the landing area prior to screed- a 3"x2" on flat or somesuch? Obviously there needs something to contain the wet mix, but subsequently the staircase and balustrade need structure to attach to and I'm guessing that treading on the edge of the screed and/or drilling into it's perimeter are bad juju.

soft start and variable speed.

@JSHarris what is the fan doing in that 0-4c zone- Is it at low speed? Is there a chance more airflow might reduce icing?

Empty scaffolding, for over a month
dpmiller replied to ToughButterCup's topic in General Self Build & DIY Discussion
There's one chap local to us who has had scaff up for approaching two years now. It was supplied by the firm that did ours and he does the odd job for them occasionally to "settle the score". Apparently. -
Lidl had a cracker in recently, and I spy the same unit (but in yellow) in Tesco filling stations. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Parkside-Rechargeable-Work-Light-PAAS-A1-BNIB-FAST-FREE-POSTAGE-34-98/302935746753?hash=item468860a8c1:g:up4AAOSwdrhbxyw3:rk:1:pf:0 ^ that's a daft price, it was £19.99 in Lidl and I think £25 in Tesco. Running time is absolutely as quoted, it's a superb lamp.

Had a surprise visit from the BCO on Tuesday, and I was glad to be there and to meet him. Finally. So far so good, no structural hitches or queries and a general air of impressed-ness with the quality of the build. I hope I can keep it up. A milestone passed today. TF erectors are finished, with the roof weathertight all internal structures complete and, I'm grateful that the lads had time to knock up a temp staircase on my request. Next? Waiting for the window installers to come back. Just need to sort the scaffolding to suit them, but it'll no doubt be a week or two before there's an install slot again.

Wood burning stove and flue install
dpmiller replied to ProDave's topic in Stoves, Fires & Fireplaces
yup. from the BFCMA Install manual: "Under BS EN 15827-1 the twin wall system chimney should extend 425mm from the ceiling" -
add an NRV to kill any convective flow?

Wood burning stove and flue install
dpmiller replied to ProDave's topic in Stoves, Fires & Fireplaces
Looks neat, but is there not now a requirement for a longer length of twinwall to be through the ceiling, 450mm or something? -
you don't want an obvious and accessible socket with a camera system...

I ring the cover off with the tool's stripper (preset distance) then pull the cores out a touch before putting them in order. Pinch the cover to keep the cores out then nip off any long ones, then shove'em into the plug. Squeeze, done. Hit rate's probably 80%+ but it's easy to work out which end's duff as the tester gives distance to break...

The tale of the sale of our old house
dpmiller replied to Jeremy Harris's topic in General Self Build & DIY Discussion
I'm with FirstTrust over here (previously TSB before they dumped us out...) and both they and the Ulster Bank use the calculator-ey code generator. Works well, hassle free. FT more recently closed our most local branches, but did a deal with the Post Office so it's actually easier for me to make lodgements now than whenever there was a branch. Walk round the corner to the PO counter at the local Spar, hand envelope over, done.
