  1. New build or refit/modernisation? Also where you intend using them?
  2. Stop tap turned off? Or can you hear a hissing sound at all … underground burst pipe?
  3. Interesting read, it will be interesting to see how members bills go over the winter against their construction and insulation levels etc. I live in a very old draughty ex railway property and love making stuff in my workshop (woodworking machines plus lathe, milling machine, welding equipment etc.) and so far my bills have been really good (or so I feel).
  4. Roof trusses are easy to carry, and depending where you are in the country a spider platform with winch will place roof trusses like a small tower crane. if you can give me more info I can give a more specific answer. Mobile cranes are a big overkill for most truss systems
  5. I would say your suggestions is pretty good
  6. Never found anything that works better then scraping with a low angle blade scraper and then using your finger to rub off the bits that remain.
  7. Got to agree with @Simon R, quite easy to refinish good quality items if they are looking a bit scuffed etc. I’ve had several cabinets and bed frames re sprayed in local car body shops and the finish is fantastic.
  8. For vacuum to work it needs to be a true vacuum and that would mean very thick glass or small panes or atmospheric pressure would defect both panes until they touched. Gas filled is much easier as the gas can be at atmospheric pressure so no stress on the glass
  9. Got to ask …. What is the other door for? Assuming one in/out and one en-suite
  10. Ive got to go with @BotusBuild it looks like that was once on the wall. Some pics showing more of the roof would help
  11. No problem slotting a sister piece in but anything more is likely to cause more damage trying to do it from the inside. Seen too many felt ‘repairs’ done from inside and all that’s happened is the new felt collects and channels any drips or blown water into a worse place . if it is still leaking then you need to get outside and seal if properly
  12. Yes, vinegar being acidic is perfect for cleaning cementitious snot from frames and windows
  13. Nope, the extra generated heat will allow brothel reception areas to be used as heat banks
  14. Non existent as usual! During covid we were classed as key workers/suppliers to rail industry so no furlough, but as virtually all works stopped on railway projects they didn’t buy any machines, just starting to pick up again now. Luckily we have a roughly 50/50 split so the construction and arboricultural machines kept us going.
  15. Sadly this happens too often especially when choosing on price. A few of my customers have built their businesses on going around putting bodge jobs right and that often costing more than the highest quote in the first place
  16. Some flex and racking is to be expected until it is held square by bracing or the deck you put on it
  17. But any wind or solar must be backed up by fuel burning or nuke power. company we have dealings with have a massive order book for 5000kva diesel generators to be supplied as fast as they can put them together.
  18. Good morning and welcome, so much info available by searching previous threads and posts first but then feel free to ask
  19. As above or you would need a aluminium or plastic angle to cover the batten before wall panel goes on
  20. 3 phase if you have the option
  21. Only you can determine what your time or ability is worth. How much responsibility are you going to or are willing to take? Do you have experience and a track record of managing a house build/conversion? Very different from a big commercial site
  22. Bordered or bonded? No idea what cement border is but if he said bonded then that's a load of crap! It’s not falling off so bonding isn’t a problem, it’s just not flat or straight.
  23. Resurfacing is no problem and as it has already settled then unlikely there would be any more. You want someone who does pavement tarmac jobs with a small paver machine. Hand laid over a wide area looks awful. or pull the tarmac up and replace with paving blocks
  24. Originally they would not have been painted on the inside, they have probably lasted a long time already and will do for many years without doing anything to them. They tend to rust more around saddles and connectors because dirt allows moss and grass to grow trapping moisture against the surface
  25. Ahhh, so not really self levelling but self aligning or tolerant. I had a vision of them being on springs or something and self levelling would make drainage falls interesting lol
