Wonder what the structural engineer would make of that ..??
-
Yep ... using 3 buried IBCs and a pump when I put them in ... total cost about £350 I think, commercial systems start at £2k....
-
Why the frametherm at that depth ..?? Should be for sound only.

They bought a modular company a while back. Did insides for hotels etc that were just lifted into place. Still struggle to see how they will make it profitable to the point of being volume friendly unless they go in on a margin basis with a volume house builder.

I've got a question on the addition of IWI to an existing structure. We have an existing building that is remaining, and I've discovered that the cavity is insulated (unusual for a double garage !) and therefore the plan to add blown bead to the cavity has now gone out of the window. So I have 65mm cavity that appears full filled with fibre so we will need to add 70mm of PIR to the inside rather than the 50mm we were expecting. That now adds a question as to how to achieve this..? I had considered using a 50mm layer which is secured back with low expansion foam and then 50x25mm battens screwed to the wall to mechanically secure it, filling the 25mm gap with a second layer of PIR between the battens. This allows me to also include a service void if needed in the 25mm insulation layer. Have I missed a better way that doesn't need battens and lots of ling fixings...??

Any idea who that was...?? The only company around there went down the tubes last year owing a fair bit - just couldn't get the buyers as the pricing was too high

Only other thoughts are : - If you have an alarm system, watch how they install the sensor for the Final Exit door - Does it meet the security requirement for your insurer as a Final Exit door..? - Has it got a restrictor on its opening - easy to fit to uPVC but may not be as easy for yours..? Other than that - go for it !

"Slight" Increase in Pitch Roof - Planning
PeterW replied to hmpmarketing's topic in Roofing, Tiling & Slating
I know what @TerryE means here ..!! I applied for NMA, and got away with : - remove one dormer, replace 2 large velux - replace French doors with chimney and windows - add 4 new velux windows - move 3 large dormers back into the roof - effectively changing the frontage of the house - add an ASHP All of this was under a single NMA and went through with one conversation with a planner. Mate down the road wanted to change two sets of patio doors to a single bifold and was told to reapply as it wasn't non material ...! -
Altecnic are what Telford supply with their cylinders for all of the PRV stuff. Well made and pretty reasonable quality. That's good for a 15mm one too !

Telford Tempest 250L... HP model, single mid mount immersion. Mention the Welsh God @Nickfromwales to Trevor at Cylinders 2 Go... You will need the immersion as you can't do a legionella cycle without one unless you want to crucify your COP

I did this too - had a few issues to start with but got a result in the end. I converted the spreadsheet they provided into a fully working formula driven spreadsheet so I could change rates and values easily. But likewise, best £150 I've spent so far..!!

Wagners have an offer on at the moment at 35.5p/W for JA SOLAR 265W Poly 40mm Alu Frame so 3KW will be £1065 and they have Growatt inverters for £700 or so. Adding in connectors then you're at £2000 or so for 3Kw plus the in roof mounting system costs which are about £500 when you nett off the roof covering savings. As @ProDave says if you can use that yourself then its around £320 per annum of saved power, you may need to look at either a Sunamp or a PV diverter to put the power into stored water though to make the most of it.

I'm using a mixer with a 3 way valve to do shower, hand wand and bath so that we don't need bath taps. They do have a pretty high flow rate if done properly but most hotels have flow limiting anyway.

.... which is odd bearing in mind it borders one that has one of the highest charges outside of London ..! As CIL has to be "ringfenced" a lot of councils are seeing the cost of administration outweighing the actual income and benefit as most of the big house builders weigh in with an S106 that sweetens the deal. What is interesting is that there have been a number of big S106 deals that have had an "education" element to them yet it never makes it to the local school because it is an academy...

Ok just to be clear .... CIL is different between councils CIL is part of the planning process - the council decide if you are exempt or not Replacement dwellings are ONLY exempt if they do not breach your councils CIL extension rule (i.e. Additional 100m2 of floor space) CIL cannot be applied retrospectively - if it is not in your approval then they cannot go back and add it UNLESS you reapply for planning If you check your council planning pages carefully it tells you what they will apply it to. Its a minefield and the councils in my experience are either very good or very bad at dealing with it..!!

S-Box (and other pop up socket options)
PeterW replied to Barney12's topic in Electrics - Kitchen & Bathroom
I have this with an IKEA island. It has a 25mm double plastic back box fitted into the end of the island and a slim face plate. Works really well and was dead easy to do with a length of conduit from the point the wires come in to the island. I've also built one with a recessed box at the rear of a cupboard where sockets for stuff like fridges and dishwashers can be plugged in - much neater than just having them inside the cabinets and keeps them together. -
Recommendation for Plasterer needed (Notts/Derbys)
PeterW replied to Ferdinand's topic in General Self Build & DIY Discussion
If he's good can you PM me details ..? -
£900 for ours but it's part of the warranty. If I had taken just the warranty then that goes up by £550 so the BC is effectively £350...

Is this Wet UFH or electric ..??

@jamiehamy look at Telford cylinders through Cylinders2Go as they come with all the parts JTM are good - order a few extra elbows and also a few straight connectors as you will cut something too short .... Decent pipe cutters are a must - Rothenberger are my weapon of choice as you can replace the blades. Elbows in walls are pretty much a given - try and put noggins/dwangs in behind them and pipe clips above the elbow to keep things straight. Don't forget your pipe stiffeners - you will need more than you think as they seem to hide .....! If you are going Hep2O then buy the release keys (or order the demo pack of the Wavin site) and a few extra fittings and cut a few bits of pipe and practice ..! You will see how the stuff goes together and how to demount it without damaging the seals. And above all... Ask !!

Its just let me select without mounting and without flush plate at £168....?

Questions was the concrete as poured supposed to be your finished floor ..? you say UFH - you're still going to need an insulation layer unless your slab is going to get heated too ..?? If UFH is needed and you have a decent insulation layer below the slab, why not just lay UFH on the slab and put a 50x75 up stand around and top with concrete - so two jobs with one ..?

From working previously in the dim and distant past, the quarterly breakdown of charges used to calculate your DD payments (for a monthly DD) are along the lines of this below : Q1 Jan-Mar 38% Q2 Apr-Jun 24% Q3 Jul-Sep 17% Q4 Oct-Dec 31% Yes - they don't add up to 100%...! The systems used to use either a 13 month year (gas), or an additional 10% consumption (elec) to allow for cost increases and customers low balling their consumption. Using that it is pretty easy to calculate what you "should" be getting in the remaining quarters of the year.

.... and you're slowly starting to turn it into a newt hotel...

4 Sheets of 11mm OSB and you have something that is pretty solid..! I agree, but this is a temporary site office so having anything other than a basic shed is false economy for us
