How about artificial, expandable hedging. Link picked at random but plenty out there including artificial box hedging. http://www.wilko.com/screening-trellis/wilko-expanding-artificial-leaf-trellis/invt/0406461?gclid=CKib_tL9rtQCFVVAGwodKMcJNw&gclsrc=aw.ds Or tba a good old decent camo net supported by wires from the boundary on the left to a single post on the right.

Full Planning Permission Approved - Unsure of what to do now?
Onoff replied to Gimp's topic in Planning Permission
Lad I know went to Vietnam recently. Came back all loved up and we started with all the Mr Dudley / Ting Tong jokes. He was jacking his job over here, selling his performance car and moving out there, life was so much better, blah, blah. Saw him the other day and things seem to have cooled off a bit. Don't make any rash decisions. -
Odd things used as a building material

In what are now the hip ends, acres of pallet wood that had been used to ROOF the various old flat roof extensions that had then been felted over. The (current) lounge floor is done in ordinary 5/8" chipboard. One corner of a sofa or one of us will still occassionally disappear down a hole, saved only by the carpet a la The Money Pit! Same lounge, the walls are hardboard on 1" roofing battens with wood chip over the top. Various cables wrapped around vertical copper runs for "support" in place of clipped direct to a structure. All gone now thank Christ: -
This "correctly sized" boiler. My oil Bluebird is 43.7 / 48.4kw. Suitable for the same TS? Cheers.

I remember these moulds were all the rage years back: http://m.ebay.co.uk/itm/GARDEN-WALL-SCREEN-BLOCK-MOULD-/322537910800?hash=item4b18c1f210%3Ag%3AQloAAOSwJH1ZLxoP&_trkparms=pageci%3Ab81c0fb7-4a82-11e7-8c1a-74dbd1804045%7Cparentrq%3A7c2010e315c0a8605d46ee6cfffb166f%7Ciid%3A1 & http://m.ebay.co.uk/itm/Screencast-Screen-block-Mould-still-boxed-/352078769259?hash=item51f987ac6b%3Ag%3ABCIAAOSwfRdZNGTp&_trkparms=pageci%3A9c204b49-4a84-11e7-8762-74dbd1805feb%7Cparentrq%3A7c2c74f515c0aa12e886e806fff883bf%7Ciid%3A1

Stage 1 Is Very Nearly Complete :)

Positively light speed compared to some..... -
Top top.....if you want to mask things like TRVs then don't faff around with tape and newspaper, just use kitchen foil and scrunch it around the object you don't want sprayed. Works a treat on under bonnet wiring too.

Tree house roof tomorrow...maybe!

Well that works...bored now:

Best I think if I let the tank do it's work. It'll just be grief if I mess with her tools! Not that I've ever; melted down pots of Trefolex on the hob so the swarf sinks to the bottom or dried out motors in the oven...
-
Back then with £85 worth of two ply, dark green lorry siding 5x3m, 3 sheets of OSB3 from Wickes where it's just over £16 a sheet on offer. This plus a can of dark brown No Nonsense wood treatment. What screws are best to affix the OSB down with? I've got either S'fix Gold screws or some A2 stainless ones again from S'fix? Don't want it coming off in a gale! The 4"x2" rafters are at about 500mm centres.

Like it! Maybe sling a shovel of pea shingle in for good measure.....
-
Yep. Fished it out just now. I had it going for a few hours last night then turned it off around 11pm. Just put it back in. The handle is better than the business end as I had it head down in the bucket and the head was below the level of the electrodes. So some of it was out of line of sight. Back in now head up. Comes out covered in black "slime" that washes off easy enough with help from a brillo pad. Not bad for something you can set up and forget. It's self regulating I believe as in once the thing is de-rusted the process stops. SWMBO's taking the kids swimming so wondering if the dishwasher would remove the slime better?

More a cauldron in the case of my one!

Just avoid acrylic baths though!

I've been collecting the gas coming off too in an upturned bottle filled with water. The gas is displacing the water nicely. Not sure if I've got the guts to put a match to it though.....

I thought as the bathroom was nearly done I could afford to slacken off a bit:

And "scum" forming:

The "test piece", one of many things found clearing the stable block out: The intelligent car battery charger I first tried didn't want to play, I think it knew it wasn't attached to a battery. Now using an old homemade CB power pack which funnily enough started life as a car battery charger about 35 years ago. Hugely unsafe, the back's missing , plugs old etc Had to flap disc some rust off to make good contact on the test piece, using a bit of cable armour to suspend it: But we have "bubbles!

A support thingy:
-
So I'm after de-rusting a few bits and pieces and decided to knock up an electrolysis tank from, as ever, scrap! A 20L oil drum, one of those which had the lid semi bonded on, BFO screwdriver soon sorted that. A sheet of some obscure plastic, quite soft to the point you can centre mark with a ball point: A quick compass: Some scribing: And some jigsawing and drilling: Some scrap M10 black bolts that I'll never used for anything else: And we have the start of a big anode that should allow 360o working around the piece to be de-rusted: Some random scrap T&E: The stripped cable clamped to the bolts. Do it tight enough and the wire pushes into the plastic. A couple of hex extenders and studs. I'll add a timber cross piece to suspend the rusty item from, probably on a chain so I can adjust the height: A broken bucket for safety. should keep some of the rain off and not contain the gas coming off: I'll try and finish it off, add the washing soda and fire it up later. Yes, I know most just use a big bit of plate as the anode or old brake discs (just skipped 4 ) but their's aren't pretty! (Was thinking to make it look like a little garden well complete with roof and winch...)

I ate horse in Greece. That was barbecued. When I asked the taverna owner what it was he said "Is meat!" and made a galloping motion.

Building Regs requesting ramp approach
Onoff replied to hmpmarketing's topic in Building Regulations
It'd be bloody useful for Tesco home deliveries too! Good access shouldn't be underestimated. The van can barely reverse up our drive then the 15 or so crates need to be trollied / manhandled to our kitchen door at the back of the house. It's across the unmade drive, up one step to the patio, up a step and over a door threshhold then over another threshhold and down a step into the kitchen. Going to be a pig when I'm in a wheelchair! -
That was YOU! Saw the link on the GBF.

I've got to ask...what happens when you're too old and decrepit to use the spiral stairs? Does the lift get fitted?
