  1. I'm not allowed to drink coffee, makes me "agressive" apparently.....
  2. I'm interested, is the new house soundproof (& vibration proof?) enough that your mowing ths lawn won't wake them up?
  3. I'm going to try the copper sulphate trick on my parent's moss covered concrete patio. If nothing else to mitigate the slip risk.
  4. I think all I've ever done to their Bosch is replace the brushes on the motor. In the case of this model you have to buy a plastic housing containing both brushes unless you want yo cut and solder the brush braiding but it's cheap as chips to do. V.impressed with the build inside. The drum is on proper shock absorbers not silly springs.
  5. I think there's a moral here...where there's a well there's a way.
  6. Tbh neither Mum nor Dad can really use a washing machine anymore. A case of whatever we buy will outlast them both anyway. It'll be the carers using it. The problem is compounded by Mum's mixed dementia. She will turn off, adjust mid cycle etc the existing machine then would until recently hang still soiled partially washed clothes out to dry. When she takes off clothes and immediately folds them and puts them in the airing cupboard/wardrobe is something else she's prone to. Wouldn't perhaps be so bad except for the double incontinence! She still has the thing about buttons. A neon is like a moth to a flame for her. Lost count of the times she's switched off Dad's phone linked call button box (he wears the call button around his neck). I then get the call of a probable power failure but it's just Mum switching it off. Tbh he hasn't pressed the button the last two times he's fallen and been hospitalized. They're living, kept alive by medical science but they're not living well. One thing I would say is that I think MVHR would be a boon to assisting the elderly in remaining in their own homes a bit longer. Mum has a habit of shutting and locking all doors and windows, drawing the curtains then barricading with whatever she can find. The smell can be nauseating. That foul air can't be good for them anyway, leads to mould on the walls and ceilings and I imagine could contribute to some breathing, infection, possibly even dementia related illness. MVHR might even mean people visit them more. Shoot me if I get to that stage please.
  7. My old man's deaf and Mum doesn't know what day of the week it is. Should be fine. ?
  8. Got a link to the 2kg for £15? Ta.
  9. Elderly parents who have carers coming in on a daily basis. The Bosch washing machine is I think 36 years old and still going amazingly. Time though for a new one with quick wash cycles so the carers dont have to be there too long. Simplest controls all the better. Any pointers on quick ones? Cheers
  10. Jesus! You lot love to complicate things! Here's mine:
  11. This stuff? https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Copper-Sulphate-QUALITY-PRODUCT-FREE-POSTAGE-HDPE-BOTTLE-CRYSTALS/132871662790?var=432170982709&hash=item1eefc4acc6:m:m1EXirEUWvNsQsfW_aQcw0Q or https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1-5kg-Copper-Sulphate-QUALITY-PRODUCT-FREE-POST-HDPE-COURIER-CuSo4-5H2O/132525074063?hash=item1edb1c268f:g:SckAAOSw74FamqPU What ratio to water? Cheers
  12. No reason I'm thinking why you couldn't use the quick release tap system like I did for wall mount taps. I did it as in effect my taps are against the wall so inaccessible from underneath:
  13. More reading for you! Their method of terminating in a Class 2 enclosure pre the main board in the shed is proper belt and braces. Most just cut back the armoured strands, whack a bit of heat shrink over it and put in a plastic stuffing gland. https://professional-electrician.com/technical/armoured-cable-supplies-outbuildings/
  14. The moss can lift the flashing but more likely it will impede the flow of water down the slope and get back up under the tile lap then find any break or lap in the felt. Almost a mirror image of my Godforsaken dormer! Just de-mossed our flat, tiled roof. Laid a roll of DPC out at ground. Paint scraped the moss and brushed / swept off then hosed off and cleaned the gutters.
  15. No pictures please!
  16. Just had a giant fry up and Lucozade Sport! Feeling much better ta. No, not saying that at all. I'm on a TN-C-S supply (now) at the house, just happen to have the original TT rod too which is only now become pretty much another "M" on the multiple earth line but its mine. Leaving my rod in place could have a protective effect should the supply earth fail in some way or become degraded as aforementioned. The DNO supply you with a TN-C-S system to your one building, the house. If you were to use their earthing system it's colloquially known as "exporting the TN-C-S". If you asked them officially they might not even let you. So don't ask them! Honestly, just rod the shed end. Only connect the CPC and armoured at the house end. That'll protect the swa itself. This may help. https://professional-electrician.com/technical/stroma-certification-supply-chain/
  17. Welcome. Definitely the right forum. The clever people will be along shortly with answers. More pics the better btw.
  18. Don't forget lads that they WILL cover any beer glass shelf in tat! Edit: Not that I'm ever drinking again.
  19. I'd have posted last night but discovered that 1 pint of Peroni and 3 of Punk IPA lead to a very, very unwell @Onoff. Worth looking at John Ware's 2005 IET publication that WAS the standard for this sort of thing and bits still relevant. outdoor-electrical-installations.pdf I can't remember but do you have an overhead supply? On poles? If so, like us here it may have been upgraded from a TT supply to have intermediate down straps periodically tied down to earth at the pole base (ideally at every connection point) making it PME TN-C-S. The "M", multiple, deriving from the many earth straps along the line. PME supplies are generally always TN-C-S but TN-C-S is not always PME. It might be the sub station feeding the property is so close there are no multiple points tied down to earth. Since they upgraded the overhead supply here all new builds get a TN-C-S supply. I was quite happy with my old, two wire TT supply and rod set up. A few years back we went on holiday and a tree came down on the overhead between the pole and the house. The BiL looking after the house called the DNO and they repaired (bodged, but that's another story) the cable. I came back to find a shiny new PME sticker in the fuse board. So I'm on TN-C-S but still with my TT rod. I'm keeping my rod for the simple fact some time back, a gang came along the road one day and CUT all the down straps off the poles with a petrol grinder. That would likely have left a number of people with pure TN-C-S installs with very high Ze. Of course nothing was done and new straps got fitted (until they're nicked again). It was around the time from memory that half of Dartford got taken out for a week by similar thieving scum! You're quite welcome btw anytime to my MFT and I'd TT the metal shed too and fit a garage unit with local RCD protection. The shed is potentially an extraneous conductive part don't forget however you do it. What are you feeding it from in your cu? Isn't your SiL a sparks?
  20. Turning some of those logs into a Jenga set seems apt... Or commission one of these as a reminder:
  21. It's got me stumped. Pinterest is your friend.
  22. I'd buy nothing else.
  23. Mines home made. Details here, back of a fag packet plans on 2nd page. Think I say in there it'll only cope with the type of pallet that has "4x2" type cross bearers due to the width between angles. Easily adaptable though. Must get around to making the fully width adjustable, quick release pinned, MK2...don't wait up!
