  1. Who specified the drilling of the joists for all those pipes and wires? They're supposed to be within 0.25 - 0.4 of the span. https://www.voltimum.co.uk/articles/cutting-holes-and-notches-solid-timber
  2. Are the edges butt tight to the "walls" or whatever is at the edges, could it be rubbing there?
  3. Dead (no power) testing should identify your fault, honestly. Stand by for a pm.
  4. Not if all disconnected! Shouldn't get continuity between N & E. Have you disconnected both ends of the ring? As in you have 6 wires (x2 live, x2 neutral and x2 earth) loose and staring at you?
  5. Any use? You can buy a no name insulation resistance meter, "IR tester" for sub £30 on Amazon etc.
  6. Glad the bits helped. How many finger prints can you set it up for?
  7. Vaseline may rot the "rubber"?
  8. I've heard to smear the brackets with silicone grease.
  9. My Geberit wall drain said 1 - 2%. With my wet room corner that equated to I think 14 - 28mm. I ended up at about 20mm so circa 1.5% and it drains a treat. I was worried that you would feel the slope when you walked across it. You don't. With hindsight I'd have gone 2%.
  10. If you're replacing more than 25% of the roof covering haven't you got to "upgrade" the roof in terms of insulation anyway and thus the felt very likely?
  11. Can you let us know roughly where this flat is in case anyone on here's looking to buy it? ?
  12. Nobody is suggesting it won't heat up. Just that it would likely heat up quicker and retain more heat, as well as using less fuel if there was more insulation in the floor. Underfoot I'm sure it feels lovely. Similarly your "boiler" might last longer if it's working less.
  13. Son to be Makita powered, cheap 18V multitool: https://cpc.farnell.com/duratool/d03220/18v-multi-function-tool-bare-unit/dp/TL19690
  14. Super Dry! Rarely ?
  15. BS1557 was withdrawn in 1954! ?
  16. Seemingly the stuff above is polythene inslated cable with a pvc sheath to BS1557. So 3-cores, red, white & blue, no earth, Imperial 3/0.29 I think, 3 tinned strands per core equates to about 2.98mm2. It's like new.
  17. I think that traditional, bitumen based, string reinforced roofing felt under tiles, has a lifespan of approx 30 years?I can't imagine in 2006 they used that though? (I know mine done in 1987 is becoming very brittle). Maybe the company doing the loft extension is dubious of the original work. At least if they renew the lot and it leaks then there's only one company to blame!
  18. Damn right, much easier to do the former in metal! ?
  19. What's the benefit of piles over a slab with a ring beam?
  20. Not at all. I just dug a 13m trench with one, 600mm deep. No wider than 6". I started off with a pronged digging tool then gave up and switch to the mattock. A revelation. I had to go through conifer roots and clay. Sharp mattock blade will go straight through the roots if you hit 'em right.
  21. Great tool for roots: https://www.toolstation.com/roughneck-mattock-with-fibreglass-handle/p20759?
  22. Search instead in YouTube for Miss Makita. (Miss DeWalt is a munter btw).
  23. Me being a mere youngster ? I'm hoping @ProDave recognises this, red, white & blue, flat cable no cpc: Post Brexit I think we should go back to these colours...
