  1. 1) She must share your vision. 2) She gets stuck in and helps. 3) I bet she doesn't complain if you have tools "everywhere" (even if you have nowhere decent to store them). 4) I bet her constant retort, like a maddening record, isn't "You'll take forever!" (Well love, you can't finish some thing unless you start). 5) I'll swap with you! ?
  2. Very sharp! ? (What are the blocks on the roof for?)
  3. I'd just leave the valve in the open position then undo the nut and remove the handle. Loosely put the nut back on and tie the handle somewhere local on a bit of string/small cable tie.
  4. At least the render should key well.
  5. Welcome! (I used to love Sue's Cafe in Norwich market before it all burnt down. "One belly buster moi luv!" ?) Why an elevated pad that high? Any form of insulation in the floor?
  6. My bathroom walls and ceiling are 12.5mm moisture resistant on 400mm centres. Will it fall down? ? The upstairs 4 rooms in the dormer are 9.5mm pb on walls AND ceiling. The proverbial plasterboard tent.
  7. Wasn't there a thread about this very issue a little while ago? Tbh I thought it had been said they needed support... Do you just tape the joint then?
  8. The edges of each board need support imho.
  9. See my link above to use new style batteries on the old tools.
  10. I half wondered if it was to do with it clogging up. Easy enough to isolate and remove/clean the gauze screen.
  11. As far as I can remember I should have fitted my prv on a horizontal section of pipework according to the manufacturer's instructions...which I never read.
  12. Short term I'm going to FINISH ? my Makita battery to Champion tool adapter and see how that runs. I've literally ONLY got to cut and bend some 1mm copper up then solder a couple of wires and female spades on. Hope to be done by tomorrow night.
  13. Is it the saw or the batteries failing? 14 years old, has it had / does it need new brushes? (Guessing it's brushed). 18V old red Nicads or black NiMH? Adapter any good? https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/18V-Li-ion-to-for-Makita-Adapter-18V-Ni-cd-Ni-Mh-Batteries-Converter-M-U-/193499504996?
  14. People here tend to keep themselves to themselves. I know my immediate neighbours but barely know next door but one either side. Beyond that not a clue. Mind I've only had the house 20 years. This old place the pics are from I'd say hello to the old couple when I was walking the kids in their prams and used to give him a few bottles of NZ beer a couple of times but never went in the house. Across the road 3 new sets of "incomers".
  15. No this will be his first decent brand 18V. He was thinking DeWalt but I suggested Makita.
  16. Old and rusty! I was going to look closer but everywhere reeked of damp etc. The relative is taking the cars before the place gets sold. I'll try and find out. I quite fancy that one in the video. Wild guess Talbot Roche or maybe RR?
  17. John Ward is wrong, plain and simple. The previous regs said about placing out of reach. The new regs specifically say you can't. Black and white. He's using the wording of the old regs to justify what he's saying. I quite like him/his stuff but wrong is wrong. Cherry picking to make his point is imo a bit unforgivable. Quoting previous regs is just bang out of order. If you want a "normal" light switch in a bathroom fit a Quinetic. Quinetic MK/Varilight grids if you want them a bit fancy.
  18. So, so sad ? There's what was really nicely built cabins, roofs knackered, garages with electrically operated doors (not roller shutters), again roofs knackered. The acreage is on terraces going up a hillside. Every terrace a bfo "shed", different from the last. Then there's all the cars... VID_20210216_163949061.mp4 At the end of the day for what? All done in good faith, the upkeep I guess became too much and it fell into disrepair. Pride, (senility?), I guess stopped them from "getting a man in" to fix it all. Left to some poor sod to sort when they're gone. Took No.2 daughter with us and made the joke she'd be doing similar one day! ?
  19. That's 3 of us agreed then.
  20. Except he's talking complete bollocks imho. Under General requirements in Section 701 it says that protective measures such as obstacles and placing out of reach is not permitted. He refers to previous regs that say placing out of reach is OK I think. He uses out of reach as justification. Previous regs don't come into it if designing to the 18th. Your M&E team were correct imo.
  21. Not yet caved in! That's 'coz its proper plywood. None of this OSB / chipboard shit! ?
  22. All the roofs of the various buildings are caved in / rotted through. She's already brought these back:
  23. Well... told SWMBO I don't want it and am not interested in working on it or spending any money on it! It'll clean up she says ? Rest of the place is sad/eerie:
  24. Got the pressure gauge in the post today and found the pressure a tad high, nearly 9bar. Lowered to 8bar as per the book. Screws straight into the hex extension piece on the burner with some PTFE tape round the1/8" BSP thread.
  25. Brother wants to get himself a battery circular saw. I've suggested Makita 18V with at least 5Ah batteries. Brushless of course. Any recommendations on models. Not too big. Ta.
