I have an old reclaimed kitchen in my workshop with sink, cabinets and hot water, saves getting the house sink mucky and the BCO said “what a good idea”

Sorry to have been away but no broadband fir many days. Hang on zoot, mine does come on at 2.31 or whatever but I cannot hear it!!!, if I could (and I know @ProDave does not like noise at night of any sort) so turn it off! Like he does , (you tell us no one runs their heating at night anyway ?♂️. ). It’s full of antifreeze and only defrosts (as far as I known) when it’s running, so if it’s off, it can’t defrost.

That’s exactly what I did

Our broad band has been off fir over a week, major problems after a lightning strike near us.

@Susie, I am very near Bude, can recomend a very good builder (if you can wait), willing to talk or visit about yours, not so dissimilar to mine. ?

I did similar, my cills are angled bricks which overshoot the cavity a little, rested the windows on the cills and used the same brackets as you up both sides. I used expanding foam tape between window and surrounding brick (my windows fitted check reveals, I.e. windows fitted to inside skin of outside brickwork). As we had solid render and plaster coating inside I only parged between floors where plaster etc did not extend.

Most cost effective way to get to passive standard using block
joe90 replied to CalvinHobbes's topic in Heat Insulation
I didn’t bother with measuring my “passive” level just used passive principles. I don’t know if brick is a better insulator I just hate render and love bricks (of a cottage nature). The only thing we did differently is we lowered the DPC to floor level inside so that a slip plane was not created above skirting boards, as this then put the outside DPC at or below ground level (we do have a French drain all round the house) we installed a second DPC 150MM above ground level to stop rain bounce causing damp. My builder recommended this, he was well up on passive and “green” building techniques. -
I wish I understood it, tho i did understand the 1 and 3/4 hrs bit ?

I have block and brick but with 200mm cavity. I used trench foundations but insulated, I guess with 150mm you might need to insulate/dry line. -
Door linings to screed but I set skirting, door jams and architrave after I fitted tiles/wood flooring (easier that way). Carpet can be fitted afterwards (IMO). I hate carpets tight to doors ?

Well I dropped a cold chisel in my brothers cavity when doing some work about 20 years ago, then More recently I found it when doing some other work, that was a surprise ?

David Attenborough was saying this years ago, well not quite, he was saying that man ( over population) was the main problem for Earth. I did wonder if Covid was the planet trying to protect itself, the Gaia principle. ?

I agree, remember my saying use a drill with a slip clutch or it could break your wrist if it jammed, also a jar of oil to dip the bit into, large drills generate a lot of heat if not used slow and lubricated. p.s. That’s not Pocster’s place, too tidy for him ?????, I know, been there ?

Too right, “insulate Britain “ is the right direction (even if they are pissing off the public by blocking roads!). YOU ONLY BUY INSULATION ONCE!

Well that was disappointing, typical TV bling (apart from mentioning huff house and passive house).

May make interesting viewing? ?

Just so.

Just a 6” brush on rods. That sounds hot, should not produce too much soot etc (as long as your logs are dry, at least 20%) https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Handheld-Wood-Moisture-Test-Meter-Digital-LCD-Log-Timber-Damp-Tester-Detector-/393529178043?var=0&mkevt=1&mkcid=1&mkrid=710-53481-19255-0&campid=5338268676&toolid=10044&customid=EAIaIQobChMIh_HxvpHU8wIVB-7tCh084w__EAQYAiABEgKSOfD_BwE in case you want one!!
