  1. For reference https://www.labc.co.uk/news/how-get-it-right-notches-holes-solid-timber-joists. (I hate boxing in, looks naff IMO).
  2. Mine was very similar, dead easy to apply with a brush, did approx 90 sq m in half a day, can’t see it when finished, rain runs off it like glass 👍
  3. Yes I had to “treat” my west wall with waterproofer as it was sodden last winter (ha, when we had rain!). So hopefully that will cut down my evaporation losses?
  4. Not my area of expertise but would have thought a “trim” was needed, coloured aluminium? What windows and cills are you having?
  5. I agree with the above, no cracking above the DPC so no structural issue, Just needs pointing, most surveys not worth the paper they are printed on, spend the money on getting the repairs done (and above the DPC at the same time) it would not stop me buying the house 🤷‍♂️, use this issue to knock them down on price 😎
  6. I would put in a couple of timber gate posts and cheap gates 5m back from the original ones with a bit of fencing either side to meet their objection and to keep your kids safe, when the extension is finished and signed off do what you want with the original 🤷‍♂️
  7. Brilliant idea, I think our gov should give the £5K they offered fir installing ASHP,s should be given towards insulation instead (don’t get me wrong I have an ASHP and it’s good fir me). But insulation will reduce ANY type of fuel use and lasts forever.
  8. That sounds counter intuitive to me! I have a west facing wall and believe the wind chill will lower the temperature of that wall which will “suck” more heat through the insulation , hope to be proved wrong!
  9. I think I would prefer “proper” tarmac , see if a local company would do it with a leftover from a big job nearby.
  10. I know nothing about tarmac, but.
  11. I would love that as a Tractor shed etc but not in a position to take it. Recycling at its finest 👍
  12. Nah, minimal movement (IMO).
  13. Welcome to THE. forum on self build, what is your utilities problem, collectively we have had nearly all the problems that exist so I am sure someone will be able to help!
  14. Do you want the short answer or the long one 🤯
  15. I do not see how planning get involved as it’s only an extension and the drive exists, forget the gates (and instal them after you have finished 🤔)
  16. Because there is no consistency whatsoever with planners or building control!!!!
  17. What I don’t get is if British Gas are making more profit then surely they are charging more than the markup on the raw materials 🤷‍♂️.
  18. IMO metal boxes are better where large cables are used, I.e. cooker, as its more stiff to bend and difficult to get into place. Also i guess where multiple cables are 🤔. Yes some cheap plastic back boxes are crap!.
  19. Perhaps in hindsight you should have asked here fir recommendations 🤔
  20. In my large kitchen diner I had both an extract (kitchen end) and supply (dining end) and works well
  21. 25 - 50mm should be fine, other than that 1 - 2 inches will do 🤣
  22. No we just ignored you 😎
