  1. Wow that’s comprehensive, well done. IMO it’s not going anywhere with that new purlin, new brick support and substantial timber. I think it did “spread” like I originally said but much too late to pull it back but as it’s going nowhere I don’t think it’s a problem.
  2. Ah, was hoping you could say it’s faulty.
  3. Was the telephone. Line still working? Are you still paying for it?
  4. I changed from Tesco (O2) to EE as the reception seemed better, but alas it’s not that good. No PIR but very rural. I was hoping an external aerial and repeater of some sort would help.
  5. Is that just the upstairs or the whole garage 🤷‍♂️
  6. Yes I built my workshop first, under permitted development, so had somewhere to store stuff and keeps tools during the build, a container came next but hopefully that will go soon(ish, if I clear the crap out of it).
  7. They are spacers to stop the glass sitting in any water or damp that gets in the frame, I don’t know why they have “legs” they usually just sit in the frame, perhaps they are keep then rigid, can’t see from the photo very well. Anyone?
  8. Yes crack on and get the glass in. Have you fitted glass to a upvc window before?. Best to get the short pieces (top first then bottom) this stops the glass falling out , then the long side bits, bend them to get the ends in first then push the middle till they click in place.
  9. Yes that’s a a “catnick lintel “ the grating is to let plaster stick to it but a piece of plasterboard is just fine.

  11. Thanks Nick, I didn’t know about charging from cold 🤔, every day is a school day👍.
  12. Not quite true, aluminium started being used when copper became really expensive after a worldwide shortage. When ADSL started to be rolled out I worked for BT and anomalies were noticed and it then became obvious that aluminium cables were causing some problems, also no records were kept where these aluminium cables were used. Because of difficulty jointing aluminium cables, copper tails were used so identifying these cables was difficult. The main problem is that historically the copper network was designed for speech only, yes clever people enabled data to be sent over copper but the length of cables and the numbers of joints in that cable restrict how data can be delivered.
  13. @Nickfromwales, your thoughts please! Less than £7k including batteries sounds good to me (but what do I know 🤔). What other kit would be needed to grid tie this?
  14. Is it?, including batteries!. I know very little about batteries, how does that compare to say a power wall?
  15. Because I don’t think a customer is prepared to wait a few hours for their dinner to cook 🤷‍♂️
  16. I only watch it as a “do not do this”. I treat it as a comedy of errors, people with more money than sense (mostly).
  17. Sorry Zoot never used it so can’t comment (but I am sure others will)
  18. Yes and these use rawlplugs and screws (or just use metal strapping and self tappers into the frame, but let’s not confuse Zoot anymore eh?).
  19. Please don’t reply till I have stopped typing in future 🤣
  20. YES NO, you drill 50mm for a 50mm rawl plug and use a Screw 50mm plus the thickness of what you are fixing. NO, if you want 50mm into wall, 25mm gap, 40mm frame thickness then the frame fixings needs to be 115mm, therefore with a 120mm frame fixing you need to drill into the wall 55mm (I don’t know you frame thickness or gap so work it out fir yourself. does your electric drill have a depth stop? If not just put a bit of tape on the drill bit 125mm from the tip, (buy a longer drill if you have to) drill through the window frame and into the wall till the tape gets to the inside of the window frame (the extra 5mm to stop the screw bottoming out). Tap the frame fixings into the hole with its screw partially in, then tighten screw, eh viola , bobs your uncle and you have mastered yet another skill 🥳
  21. Then just buy a scraper and crack on.
  22. Zoot, frame fixings and rawl plugs work differently, rawl plugs are in the wall only, frame fixings are in the window frame and wall (and gap), just pretend that piece of wood shown previously is your window frame. Just do it and stop questioning how/why they work, trust me they do 🤷‍♂️ But make sure you are drilling into brickwork and not fresh air in the cavity.
  23. Just watched it on 4+1, what a clot, more money than sense.
  24. Is it, @Oxbow16 we need more info, personally I think the roof has spread one end judging by the pics but without more info ? What’s the wall plate like the other end? What’s the wall plate like on the other wall?
