  1. Yes to be honest I've never known one I've put in fail. I just hate additional joins if not needed. I thought I would have been able to buy the tap and a couple of adapters to make it a bit longer.
  2. Any good to you. I use that site all the time has so many ideas in one place.

  4. So it turns out the idiot designers aren't clever enough to work out old style brass stop cocks are 30mm longer than the new plastic ones, do they not make an adapter to lengthen the valve. Had to faff around adding a straight join just to add in a tiny bit of pipe. Oh how I hate unnecessary joins and potential leak points. ?
  5. aha. You hit the nail on the head. This is where I get my dislike for all the fancy European windows the opening configuration seems crazy (to me) does anybody make a good sliding window. All our previous windows where sliders so allowing external fly screens which also double as a security screen so a window can be left ajar a bit if needed.
  6. Having lived in Australia for a few years I know that good quality bug screens are available for windows and doors. Im not interested in any aftermarket looks like a dogs dinner load of poop, i can find exactly what I need in oz the problem seems to be the windows and doors they fit to are single glazed ? So not exactly any good over here. Anybody got any experience with American or Canadian made windows.
  7. So if I go and get the new plastic one, what are the chances that the fitting lengths will be different and I will need a fancy adapter or something, or are they clever enough that they made the plastic ones longer so a bit of trimming is all that's needed. What you reckon @Onoff @Nickfromwales @PeterW
  8. If I was there with my digger I could find that pipe in two minutes flat????
  9. This is probably going to start another question I will need to ask. Is mvhr going to work in our situation.
  10. Ok, so in the back garden we have a lake, but it has a bit of a downside which is the flying creatures, everything you can imagine buzzing about. So we need windows capable of having bug screens fitted. We also need these on a couple of large sliding doors as well. All I keep coming up with are the couple of American companies. Anybody got any experience. Cheers russ.
  11. So trying to get my head around how to get ducts from room to room across a vaulted ceiling do I run it in the ceiling void between the joists in amongst the insulation? What about the airtight layer? Or do I have a deeper service void under the airtight membrane? Whats everybody done.
  12. See you bloody northerners have got all the money.
  13. Could you not recover costs from those who plotted in wrong place.
  14. Sorry sounds crazy to me. Work out where all your drains are going put your pipe work in tape up the ends or cap off. Install ufh screed on top. Dont try and reinvent the wheel it's been done this way for ever. The thing to to think about is if a pipe is for the drain of a kitchen sink it is easy to put a couple of 45 bends in to get it exactly where you need it, the same for a vanity, you will need to be a bit more accurate with the toilet waste but again many of the pan couplers will allow a twist around to allow for perfect alignment. I think the only waste where you will need to be millimetre perfect would be a sink with no pedestal or vanity to allow any wiggle room.
  15. Is there a good make or one to avoid. It's 32mm so a fair bit of water in it I would prefer quality rather than cheap and shite. Cheers.
  16. https://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=464 have a look here brilliant forum, but it will leave you envious.
  17. So today we had a site meeting with our case officer? What I learnt is no matter how stupid you think the information is you are providing show him everything. We had a couple of pictures taken from a drone that I had enlarged and printed, he seemed very shocked when I showed him these that showed how big our neighbours house was, even though we had given him this information with our application, he was even more surprised when I produced a picture from 1960 that showed next door without any extensions and just a 1 room chalet. So basically don't think anything you add will be silly it may all help.
  18. There you go me ol China.
  19. Hi is it possible to revise my plans to an application that is already running without having to withdraw our first application and re submit it. Just had a site meeting with our case officer and he hinted at ways we could do things to win his favour. I personally would prefer to fire up the excavator and put him at the bottom of a big hole. ?
  20. I have a brass stopcock (see pic) its on a 32mm main any tips on freeing it. Or can I change the internal bits without disturbing the the connections to the actual pipe. Just thinking whilst it is not leaking it is a shame to disturb it. Ta very much.
  21. Thanks, we love it, I've nearly decided on where I would like my ashes scattered, I plan on being here a long time. If we get consent.
  22. @Ferdinand if you look at the two Photos you can see a large Cotswold stone place, this is my neighbours 6 bedroom 4 bath house, if you look a bit closer you can see a small cabin this is my place, the lake closest the camera is my neighbours and the two lakes above that one are mine. We don't have any restrictions with room and the gravel road, as we own that as well?To be honest we own more or less every thing around us for aprox 250m in any direction. We have a very nice letter from our neighbour in full support of our house starting that he is petrified that if developers were to ever get hold of it then it would get destroyed. We always new we would have an uphill struggle with this as the lawful dwelling we have on site was achieved through the councils inability to enforce there own rules and the cabin on site should have been removed many years ago which we didn't do instead we let it out for the past twenty years with no enforcement from the council, last year we gained a certificate of lawfulness for a permanent dwelling. And we believe put a few noses out of joint at the council.
  23. I'm not sure what point you are trying to get at @Ferdinand why do I want to extend over the lake? we have plenty of land to play with we can move the house in any orientation we need to. The main problem is that the old cabin is so small even doubling its size makes it to small, the smallest we can go to fit the rooms in we want is about 2.5 times the footprint, this is the problem the planning officer has. We have a site meeting this Friday to try and win him around. We have already adjusted the room sizes once and managed to cut 25m off. I don't think 166m downstairs is an overly large house. The thing he is doing is adding in the 46m garage and the two car ports which brings the floor area up a fair bit. When we could easily apply for a large detached workshop with no problems.
  24. What I would add is go and buy some quality filler knives/trowels/spreaders whatever you want to call them, don't be trying to do this job with your old glue covered paint scraper. Also try to get a good finish of the knife, don't rely on sanding, get it 90%first. 4 trowels 3" 6" 12" and a 3" with an angle for corner work. If you want to buy a really expensive giraffe sander I will buy it of you afterwards as I intend to tape and join our whole house.
