  1. Tbh I’ve got a Howdens account, and find them easy to deal with can’t remember any major problems and always fairly quick to replace any missing bits. When it comes time to do mine I think I will have a look around but will probably come back to Howdens as long as I can get what I’m looking for.
  2. My wallet has just slowly retreated into a dark corner to hide. I cannot believe the prices of some of these kitchens. ?
  3. Hi, we to are near Cirencester, we have a plot in the water park that we are attempting to get consent for a replacement dwelling. We have used PLAN A before, and they managed to get us a certificate of lawfulness for a timber cabin we have on site, we are now using them for our full application, which is turning into a monumental battle. But this is on a piece of land we were told we would never get consent to build on, so we do seem to be progressing. Did you like what you saw in Ampney St Mary ? I met the guys at screwfix and they told me to pop in but so far have not had chance. Russ.
  4. Could @nod take a pic of the hospital to see if the finish could be satisfactory.
  5. Is this going to be the finish floor. ie no screed on top. Tbh if it was my job and this is a finished slab I would not pour below 5 degrees and would want a good 24hour period of not below 2 degrees after the pour. But there must be blokes further north than me who have to deal with lower temperatures so they might disagree. Remember you only need a window of say 48 hours of 5 and above. Its very mild down here at the mo, have a look on the forecast.
  6. It is very rare that I am speechless, but I am slightly lost for words mr @Onoff
  7. Holy guacamole, has the telly been that bad this Christmas. ?
  8. One of the comments I found was that the incoming air although warm, was colder than the air inside so did feel like a draft coming in.? A problem i have is there is no overrun facility on the ceiling fan. May have to upgrade. I like the the idea of trimming the door, that hadn’t occurred to me, even though I used to have a house with full aircon where all the doors had a good 10mm gap under them.
  9. G,day having just done a quick lash up refurb on our bathroom in the old house, I have found a fairly bad humidity/steam/condensation problem i ripped out the old electric shower and fitted a nice mixer, cheers @Nickfromwales for the advice. New glass screen and a bit of tilling. Fitted a fairly nice xpelair ceiling fan. So the problem is steam turning to water droplets and hanging on the ceiling, just to drop on you as your sitting on the toilet hours later ??? the room is aprox 2.4 x 2.4 so not huge and now the shower is lovely I spend 15 mins every night standing there thinking about timberframes verses icf. There are no vents in the window. My thoughts are to add a vent high up to allow the ceiling fan to draw out the steam by allowing fresh air in, the problem with this will be pulling in cold air from outside. So ive been looking at heat recovery fans and thought I had found a solution, but on looking for reviews I found it was a bit mixed. So anybody got any thoughts. just as a bit of info this house may end up as a rental for a couple of years. Cheers.
  10. Well done I wish you luck. Do you think it will go through or do you have a fight on your hands. Ours has taken months, two time extensions and a re design. So if you think you may have a struggle don’t rely on that February date. Good luck
  11. I am a computer numpty, but have just used an app called architouch on my I pad, it was very easy to use and allowed me to rough out what I wanted, I then took this to our architect who drew it up correctly ready for a re submission. I believe doing this saved me probably a good £1000 in fees. I paid for a 1 month subscription for £17, but would be happy to pay for it again if I need to do any tweaking.
  12. I have been thinking about this detail recently has anybody put any thought into a timber frame sitting on top of icf blocks im thinking two courses of icf up to damp course with the timber frame sat on top with an isolation layer between the two like a bituminous impregnated foam gasket. Crazy or genius.
  13. I must admit when I first looked at the pic I didn’t like the idea of ffl lower than outside soil level i have found previously it made for some funky orientation of the dpm to prevent damp penetration to the inside.
  14. Can you tell us why you want to hire one, I have used one many times and they are expensive to hire, you will need to drive a good way to collect it and a long way to take it back. If you don’t collect it you will have to pay delivery and collection. You can hire a team of two lads and a pump for £400, you can get a line pump fitted on a 7.5 ton truck which will squeeze into a surprisingly tight gap. You would need a pretty strong reason to convince me that hiring one yourself is the way to go.
  15. Looks smashing, lovely timberwork. I’m still dreaming of the day we might get planning.
  16. Could you elaborate on what your change of build up was, its reading your blog @Stones that has prompted a lot of my questions. I might have to ask a few more. Thanks russ.
  17. Any pics.
  18. Can I get sketch up on an I pad. Or do I need a computer. Ta.
  19. Thanks as always everyone for some very informative answers, so would there be a comfortable u value, where trying to achieve more would be a waste. For arguments sake if I could achieve 0.15 for the budget I have in mind would I be better off spending another £5000 on more insulation to pull the walls down to say 0.13 or spend the extra £5000 on a higher spec glass.
  20. We are thinking of changing the beams for gluelams, this pic is from the states where anything seems to be ok.
  21. Oh god, I hope I haven’t upset anybody. Either admin or forum users. Night night. ?
  22. So confused as usual. I read a thing recently regarding, what is the point in having super dooper walls if you have 75% glazing in that wall. Well I think I may be in that position, I’m trying to decide on a buildmethod and the approximate u value achieved with that build up, but if you look at the pic below this is a design we have been following and the rear wall will have a very similar look to the pic. Would you consider the amount of glass area to have such an effect on the overall heat loss that making really low u value walls will be a waste with all that glass, even with good quality windows and doors I don’t believe they come close to matching the walls. Any thoughts.
  23. Wasn’t me?Guvnor.
  24. Oh good god. @JSHarris I was asked to remove the pic,??? that’s why I was trying to put it up with a link and not the actual pic. Ian will be after you now ?? honestly ian I did try and do the right thing, but I get easily led astray.
  25. Have been trying to post up the pic in a url link but my I pad just doesn’t like it. Oh well your all just have to imagine something a bit silly that tickled me. But I am easily amused.
