  1. Morning all. I’ve got the shell of the house up and really need to sort out the nitty gritty of how the place is going to work. I have had a couple of guys at the house looking at all the different methods of how we will heat the place and supply hot water. Now it has been so long since I started looking into all this that I’ve gone around and around until I have tied my brain up in knots. So I would like a Forums idiot guide to ASHP. What I think I know, ashp is a metal box that works like an air conditioner in reverse. So does this box of magic have a cold feed going into it and after the magic has happened hot water comes out of it ??. The hot coming out needs to go somewhere, where’s this go ?? the temperature coming out is ok for ufh, but not hot enough for a bath or shower ??. how do you get it hotter ??? i have purposely asked some basic questions, some I know the answers to, but I thought by going back to basics I might get a better grip on what I’m trying to do. I have hundreds more questions but I hope this gets the ball rolling so I can ask some more equally silly ones. Stay safe out there. Russ.
  2. I thought it was non structural and just used for fill.
  3. Is there a particular reason why you would want to.
  4. Oh yea, been there done that. Make sure you avoid all bitumen based products as well im not telling you how I know but it cost me two days of hard labour and made a bloody mess.
  5. I understand the need to get 20 odd pipes back to a manifold, so there will always be a congested area. But that photo shows a row of 5-6 pipes running a considerable distance all next to each other.
  6. What do you think about the strength of the screed in that area. You imagine the rest of the floor screed has a small void every 200 mm yet that area of mass piping has just a 30-40 mm layer over the top, I would bet my left nut that if you had to smash that screed out the bit over that collection of pipes will be weaker.
  7. Yes it’s the tight spacing, I see this on loads of pictures sent to me from so called expert companies. To me that is totally wrong and could easily have been designed better. Whats the point of 150-200mm smacking and then having 6-7-8 pipes all nearly touching. Will be bloody boiling underfoot in that area.
  8. Morning. Have a look at this picture, I’m looking at organising my ufh and just looking at loads of pics from so called professional installations and I personally don’t like them. I find fault in all the pics, am I just a nutter, should I just slap it in like all these companies, or should I make my design better. Whats your opinion on the pic.
  9. If you are getting any sort of frame inspection they normally like to see the roof loaded. I bet you have closer to ten tonnes of tiles rather than two or three.
  10. Bloody hell thats a bit different. ??
  11. Deflection can also increase if they are not fitted tightly against both ends, for example a tightly fitted joist has little space to deflect into, whereas a joist with a 10mm gap both ends has a large amount of room to deflect into. Hope that makes sense.
  12. I get mine of a lad in the pub, Jonny the hood, ex bank robber turned good, he has a good selection from little sawn offs you can get under your jacket to unrestricted 7 shot pump ups. Cash only.
  13. Thank god for that. Sweaty socks can keep that.
  14. @ProDave mentioned in another topic about circulation spaces in his kitchen, this is now giving me extra things to worry about i had thought the only thing I needed to comply with was a wc large enough for wheelchair users. Can anybody shed some more light on this subject. Cheers.
  15. I just checked with my mate and we have about 5000 cartridges at home just in case this virus situation gets out of control.
  16. You have made such a nice job of the rest of it I will let you off just this once.
  17. This question has been asked a lot regarding services and slabs. I wonder if we could get a list of all the things to go in before the concrete is poured, and keep it somewhere on the site as a reference guide. @AnonymousBosch because I know your not that busy really.
  18. On a different note, @LA3222 how about giving people some details of your timber extension on your mobile home i have mentioned this a few times to people living on site and I got the feeling they all thought it was to much trouble, but looking at yours I reckon it will make life in there a 100times better.
  19. Have you already booked in the guys to dig the footings, lay the concrete or build the walls. If not then I think you won’t find anybody to do this for weeks anyway, virus or not, most trades I know are booked for months in advance.
  20. That looks cock on. Well done ??
  21. I did my own CONSTRUCTION ENVIRONMENT MANAGEMENT PLAN it looked the nuts far better than the one we eventually paid for it was refused by the council.
  22. I have been putting this off for months as I new it would be another grand I will never see again found a company who did it for around £425 plus vat, came back clean as a whistle.
  23. Well done @Temp spot on.
