  1. Hi, dragging up an old post here. But instead of rendering onto the insulation boards, could you baton and then clad with UPVC/cement boards? At the beginning of doing a DIY extension, at the moment with the idea of a warm flat roof, so the idea of external insulation on the walls is tempting too. Thanks
  2. What size roughly are you going for? Bedrooms?
  3. Did you get a rough price on the screws? They seem to be w popular thing now
  4. Have you had a rough cost for the 11 x 8m office? What floor space does it give you?
  5. The house in picture has a timber floor yup. It’s sitting on concrete blocks, timber joists then osb boarding. Then just built directly on that. I went to visit that house wen it was -1 and snowing, all they had was a wood stove on in lounge & it was roasting, they also had smart electric heaters in bedroom but I’ve spoke to owner a few times over winters and he very rarely needs the heaters on. I was only going to go concrete flooring to fit underfloor heating and possibly leave the living area as polished concrete, fit carpet in the bedrooms.
  6. So you can just fix your treated sole plate directly onto concrete? Well with the dpc under it
  7. My thoughts are (tell me if I’m wrong, which is more than likely) If I put in a heated passive slab, with a block ring around it, build a 6x2 timber frame, osb on outside, house wrap & larch cladding. Then insulate between studs, maybe even thin pir boards fixed to stud wall on inside with ply/plasterboard fixed on top. Roofed with fibre cement sheets. Without the little details, would that be a sufficient shell to start with?
  8. I’ll have a look at there page, thanks. Ye I joined this forum to see if I can try & price up what it’ll roughly cost me to build. If it’s going to sky rocket, I’ll just have to let the dream go for now. Im in SW Scotland, Dumfries.
  9. Ah you didn’t, I was just under impression 600mm was the norm
  10. Ah so the boards need to be able to span the 600mm spacing, well the gap between the 50mm boards. Aw I see now, the blue strips are the battens Ha
  11. Did you lay the engineered oak direct on top of biscuit mix? I intended on using 8x2 c24 for joists, then pack them with kingspan or similar and 18mm ply or osb. What size of battens are you using to put the pipe on?
  12. So just trying to build up a plan for everything and costing.... If I was going to be building a timber lodge on a block and joists(so crawl space under), how would I prepare that for underfloor heating? What do I need under it & what types of flooring can I put on top? If well enough insulated, Would I need it in every room? Bedrooms? The only UF heating I’ve dealt with is an electric mat under my bathroom tiles at the moment.
