Spring onion or Worcester sauce. Or did you push the boat out and have it with some nutty crust. Congratulations.

Do you ever ask yourself?
Declan52 replied to Triassic's topic in General Self Build & DIY Discussion
Asked the same question on loads of occasions ESP when things go wrong but believe me when it's all done/nearly done/done enough to move in then you will start to enjoy it. I am in near 30 months now and it has flew in. -
Welding a lip on an RSJ
Declan52 replied to Construction Channel's topic in RSJs, Lintels & Steelwork
Always put 2 props in that span that would take the weight to stop it sagging and then remove the next day when the mortar has gone of. -
Get whoever you got your blocks from a phone and see if they stock them. Used mainly to get your walls back on coursing after you put lintels etc in. Easier to lift one soapbar than 4 brick.
-
Make sure you state the dimensions above that you want before ordering. You don't want the top block in the pic. Soapbar term might be just an Irish name for them.
-
You don't want to lift full size 6 inch blocks, they are a ton. Called farmers friends as only they use them for pig houses and the like. You are looking for a soap bar block that will be 440mm*100mm*140mm. You want the bottom one in the pic.

Vinyl vs Lino vs Laminate on a Wooden Floor
Declan52 replied to Ferdinand's topic in General Flooring
I have lino in my upstairs toilet and my ensuite downstairs. It's cheap easy put down, easy to clean and as had been said above it comes in all sorts of really nice designs miles away from the fake wooden floor look. It's also the first place you feel the heat when the ufh is on due to it being only a few mm thick. -
The top of my panel is one tile from my ridge , chalet bungalow, and he can get it. Reckon it would be 7-8m reach. So even if you aren't tall a step ladder would get you that extra bit of height of you needed it.
-
The guy who does my windows uses a long reach pole and cleans mine.
-
Could you put it somewhere that is easier to get to from a ladder or from the window when its open. Or put it on what ever side is rarely seen. Won't be noticed in a few years once it weathers.
-
Can you not use the one you have but continue your search and replace whenever you find the correct tile.

After 4 hrs in the blue lagoon i had baby soft skin. The wife has Psoriasis and it helped get rid of it and 5 days on it's still clear. Apparently if you have Psoriasis in Iceland you get sent here instead of filling yourself full of drugs. You get a lovely silica mud pack for your face and as you can see in the pic you look like an idiot but everyone is in the same boat!! The cranes in the background are the hotel they are building on site. Make sure you bring your wallet the next time , everywhere takes cards with contactless widespread. Loads of airlines do cheap flights there now as it's one of the most popular city breaks. Both of our flights in and out where full to capacity and from talking to other visitors it seems it's a used as a 2/3 day stopover destination for most Americans then on to Europe.

It's beautiful, very expensive but me and the wife loved it. Never seen the northern lights as It was very foggy so gives us an excuse to go back.

I am only back from Iceland on sat and they are world experts on it. They have plants all over the country that they pump the water from through a large network of pipes you see on the surface everywhere. Their hot water, electric and fresh air are the only things that are cheap there!! The guide reckoned they pay around 4-5p per kWh for electric. The world famous blue lagoon uses the waste water from the power plant next door for tourists to bathe in, me included.

MVHR and windows open
Declan52 replied to Trw144's topic in Mechanical Ventilation with Heat Recovery (MVHR)
You have to provide ventilation at a specific rate set out by whatever version of the building regs you are covered by. So depending on how airtight your build is you will have to provide some sort of ventilation , trickle vents , stack , purge mhrv, to get your house passed. The choice is up to you but it makes more sense to me do pick the option than recovers some heat as well. -
Are any TV 'Architects', Architects?
Declan52 replied to Ferdinand's topic in Surveyors & Architects
Room to improve is a great show. His name has been took on in slang terms where you say if something ain't quite right you say it's a bit Dermot bannon as in there's room to improve it. Heard the DJ on 2fm say it last week. -
Floor insulation perimeter installation? (block build)
Declan52 replied to JamieM's topic in Heat Insulation
Most BM will have 25mm *100mm by 2.4m boards that would get used for Window reveals that you can use but they will be more expensive than using a sheet you cut yourself. -
Floor insulation perimeter installation? (block build)
Declan52 replied to JamieM's topic in Heat Insulation
I used of 50mm deep off cuts from insulating the roof and laid them on top of the floor insulation. I cut them at 85mm so sat 10mm high when screed was down. I put a quick squirt of foam and pushed it to the wall. None of them budged a bit. -
Maybe it's just me but if the bin starts to smell i empty it. And like nick all our food waste goes into a brown bin outside for composting by the council so very rarely smells.
-
After you cook and wash the dishes do you hang them in the shower. It's also no toilet either so that shower could get used at 3am Sunday morning when you can barely walk.
-
Yeah makes more sense now.
-
All inspections in NI are done by council employees who in my dealings with them take no shit whatsoever. If it's done wrong and gets spotted it gets fixed. All of the big sites I worked on every single house was inspected usually getting signed of 2/3 days before its handover date.
-
If that is a join in the boards should there not be more screws visible. At least one in the corner and some along the top plus maybe another along the join.
-
Has line pins under the first block so makes no difference, still has to lean out and move the line up. Can only plumb one side of a wall so the most plumb bit of that wall is on the inside. Just never seen it done like that before.
