  1. You need to work out the perimeter of your build and divide this by the floor area. Go to this site with whatever your figure you got from working out the sum above and put it into the calculator. http://www.kingspaninsulation.co.uk/Services/U-Value-Calculator.aspx
  2. I wouldn't want my finished floor put in at the founds stage if I was going to be building blocks. The floor will be ruined!!! Plus all that weight on your floor with the ufh piped in it is taking a chance. Depending on how access is you might have to stack blocks up 5 straps high which is 5t sitting on 1m2 which is a lot.
  3. If you search for Eco eye rte player season 15 episode 9 On Google it will find it . Even us in the north are blocked from using the rte player as our IP address shows up as UK based but I use a ghost IP address if I ever need to watch something.
  4. Last Tuesdays episode is on it so am not sure why yesterdays isn't. Maybe like everything else in Eire it just takes a little longer!!!
  5. Eco eye. It was on rte 1 at 19:00
  6. Very gd show which basically dispells a lot of the passive building costs way more myths that usually get brought up. Also included a standard house that went from a G rating, lowest, to an A3,3rd highest, by using ewi upgraded passive windows mhrv etc.
  7. During the boom there where some absolutely shocking builds threw up in Eire some of which had to get demolished so the government stepped in and tightened all the regs up to what they are now. The passive regs of that council are probably a tester that will get rolled out countrywide once they see how it performs.
  8. Could you knock on their doors and explain what you are attempting to do and enquire what their heating bill is. Do a rough check as to what their epc says it should be and see how far apart they are. Epc says it should cost £1000 to heat but it's costing £1500 mainly due to the heat leaking out through the uninsulated parts. Extrapolate that through the development and you should get a pretty impressive number.
  9. The only things that generally motivate people is the carrot or the stick. So you will either give those who improve there epc a cut or those who don't a penalty. Could give a set period of 5 years to take advantage of whatever scheme the government propose, loft insulation, cavity wall insulation, new more efficient boilers, new windows. After the 5 years you get re-evaluated and if you improve you get a cut. My mum got her loft topped up plus got her 14 year old oil burner replaced. The cost to do this countrywide would be astronomical but what is the cost if nothing is done. The only problem is how do you stop the cowboys from ripping people off.
  10. Unless they link it to your council tax/rates then nothing will happen. There was a scheme here about 7 years ago where if you built a low carbon home you got 2 years with no rates. If it was a zero carbon build it was extended to 5 years. If by improving your epc rating you got a percentage of your bill then more people would take the steps needed.
  11. Call round the night before and tell the homeowners to set their heating to come on when you are due to arrive.
  12. Very good read. He really doesn't like dry lining!!!
  13. If you go through his timeline he has become a kind of figure head as other people in the same development and other Taylor wimpey customers have posted pics of their houses with again some of them being unbelievable.
  14. His Twitter account is @myhousesucks. Some of the pics are unreal considering the builders have had a few goes at fixing the problems.
  15. Are you allowed to say about how many people have set up social media accounts to try and shame the big builders into rectifying the faults. Luke mahon with Taylor wimpey would be a good example as his house is one of the worst I have seen.
  16. Any particular reason for 100mm screed and not 75mm depth with the extra 25mm going to improve your insulation depth. One sheet of 50mm to cover the first fix pipe work then overlapping with a 100mm sheet. Or build it to suit 200mm insulation if the budget can stretch that far.
  17. How do you intend to build the floor of house assuming the ground conditions should be good where you are. Are you considering as you are going block build doing the founds then pouring a 100mm subfloor then continue to build and put the insulation and ufh bits plus screed after first fix. This would be by far the most common method here in NI. Or do you only intend to do one floor which will contain steel mesh with the ufh in this concrete. Probably a bit more risky as the floor will have a lot of weight on it when it's loaded out with a few loads of blocks.
  18. Yep. That was my 2nd year apprenticeship in plumbing. Didn't pass as my butt crack was not visible from the space station. If the camera had zoomed out a bit you would have seen my little tikes work jeep. I finally succeeded in doing what every plumber I know has always tried and got the work wagon in through the front door.
  19. What has your architect specified for your insulation??? What width will your cavity be??? Are you going to use joists or slabs for your first floor??? What spec are you looking at for your windows and doors?? I take it you will be going for ufh with a heat pump and what about the first floor more ufh or rads either oversized or electric. Loads of people here using heat pumps but to get them to work efficiently then it's all about the finer details.
  20. There are members here from every county. Welcome.
  21. It's that stoney bit at the bottom of my hill where the dog shits.
  22. Mine was only 75mm thick. And it was 3 years ago as well!! I take it that the new cemfloor type screed is basically a liquid screed but without the problems associated with the older types. I think if I had to choose again I would still go for sand cement screed as it's the tried and tested method with little issues if laid correctly. From cold my screed takes about 90mins before you start to feel any heat on your feet but it will stay warm after the stats turn the heating of for close on 3hrs. A deeper screed will take longer to heat up but longer to cool down so a 50 mm liquid screed will heat up quicker but also cool down quicker. It's a tough choice to make. Glad all I have to worry about is what flowers to plant in the garden.
  23. That's how I wanted mine but the kids hand marks on the glass put me off. How are you finding it cleaning wise.
